It's an incredible game and I am glad you ended up picking it up. I understand your early sentiments about not picking it up because you were playing the other MMO's, it was very much a thing in the Mid 2000s and is why I picked up GW because I didn't want to pay monthly for WoW and feel the need to play every day. Hands down the best game/experience of my early adult life. I miss it and videos like this are making me want to jump back in again after 12 years.
The entire game was built to be played multiplayer. The "henchmen" NPC followers can replace the necessary players, so that you can play the game with less than optimal amount of players, even solo, if you're able to play patiently and strategical. Idk how GW1 is today, I haven't played it in many many years, but GW1 was my childhood/ teenage MMORPG and I played it when it was still popular. If they didn't drastically reduce the difficulty of the game you won't be able to get through the zones alone (without other players or the NPC followers) pretty soon. It's kinda cute to see someone exploring and discovering this game for themselves. Brings back fond memories. :)
The game got "easier" by allowing you to bring 7 heroes instead of 3, however the game is still challenging and still requires a full party for content. I use quotes because it's down to the player if they want to use the meta hero team comp or roll with whatever they please.
@alexglobal8395 you were able to do most things with the NPCs from day 1, but you're not running around "solo". You are still taking the NPCs with you. If you've watched and listened to the youtuber, he was actually running around alone and didn't even take the NPC helpers with him.
@@crankpatate3303 that’s fair, I meant solo as in npcs on the team. Game is not proper solo friendly at all. You can beat the campaigns solo/no npcs but you need the right game knowledge to do that
Glad you found your way back to the game. I started playing when Factions was released and spent a lot of years playing this game. I since have been playing GW2, but as good as it it, there is just something that only the first Guild Wars game has. I honestly think the endless amount of skill combinations, especially if you are thinking of coordinating with your team, gives it so much replayability. Also, if you have all the expansions, there are 10 professions for you to play as and each with secondary professions. So many options. Newer games are more polished and technically more advanced, but this game is amazing. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it isn't good. I have gotten back into it over the last few months and am enjoying it so much. I really hope when GW3 comes around, they remember the magic that made GW1 so great. Have fun in game and hopefully more people will come back to it, or try it for their first time.
My brother & the neighbor kids played RuneScape together A LOT; I was in 2nd grade when they showed me & I had to run over next door to ask how to talk.. “You hit the enter button after typing your sentence.” At some point I bought Guild Wars & it blew our brains out. The next week, we put our lunch money together so we could each have a copy. stayed up all night playing until our eyes bled. I was sooo proud of my elementalist that had all her armor dyed pink 💕
every year in april i come back to this game and play for a couple of months, best game i ever played, one of those game you can come back to and still enjoy it to the fullest
It is UNREAL how good GW1 is! Feels familiar yet full of wonder of discovery! Seemingly simple on the outside but devilishly complex on the inside. A game that was inspiration to Path of Exile's structure and very similar to Monster Hunter cannot be a bad game. Anet should definitely lean into GW1 model more for their next title because it looks like this is where the gaming is headed. Anet was ahead of it's time just didn't know.
I came back from Iraq in 2008. In 2007 I had a buddy in country that used satellite internet. He had GW1 installed on his laptop and showed me GW1 a few times, and it looked incredible for the time. The game was so interesting that I still remember the enemies he was fighting and the general location of his character. Upon getting home I bought GW1, although, at the time I was in a love affair with World of Warcraft. I played a little bit, a necromancer in fact. I remember following a guide to finally obtain a "Flesh Golem" I think? Eventually, I bought into the GW2 beta. Due to my many years playing WoW, I was convinced the dungeon system wouldn't work without a dedicated tank and healer, similar to GW1, so GW2 was a little odd, but what really nailed the coffin for me was how the story was told, the medium ArenaNet used, and how odd the cast of characters were.
You can buy a Hero Pack, or Mercenary Pack, I think it's called one of those, where you can use your actual alt characters to play with you instead of NPC's. You can completely customize them, equip them like you can yourself, even get them to wear costumes you have unlocked etc. I have that pack it's awesome to play with your own alts, especially now that the game isn't as populated as it used to be and you have a full control of them. Also, once you reach lvl 20 (which is the max lvl in the game) it unlocks a Hard Mode. Whilst in town, you will see a red helmet thing pop up next your character icon on the screen. You must click that before entering a zone and you can redo the entire game for a much greater challenge in HM. There are achievements and titles for completing each zone and the entire game in HM. Same goes for all the Missions. Best to complete those zones in Normal Mode first to reveal the map and then do the vanquishing, where you have to to kill every enemy in each zone. There's also map exploration of every zone too and because in gw1 enemies don't re-spawn once you kill them (as long as you remain that zone) it is a great time to do the map exploration and un-fog every inch of it after you vanquished it, which is also an achievement for each zone and entire game. If you have all the campaigns in gw1, including Eye of the North, which is the prelude to gw2, you unlock Hall of Monuments in which you can place all your achievements; heroes you unlocked. pets, weapons etc. The full Hall of Monuments unlocks nice skins for gw2, including a well sought after title in both games, which you can use in GW2, called "God Walking Among Mere Mortals". All these are unlocked for all your characters in gw2, but for gw1, each character has to get them. If you go for this, you should focus on one character to get those in gw1 as they're not easy to get and use that character to display everything in Hall of Monuments, which is located in Eye of The North. Ircc, you need something like 30 titles in gw1 for the God Walking Among Mere Mortals title. If you consider all of the above, gw1 is deceptively massive and there's years of gameplay in it. I haven't even mentioned dungeons, especially those in Eye of the North. You need to do all those as well in both modes. You might have deduced by the wall of text I wrote here, I love gw1, it was my first type of MMO and ofc, I don't need to mention, I love gw2. Best 2 games ever made in my opinion. Oh btw, I just remembered, In Prophecies, you can achieve a special title only in Pre-searing, by reaching lvl 20 in that zone before leaving it, as you can never go back. It's a very difficult achievement as the highest lvl enemies there are lvl 8 ircc. You basically need to go over the wall over and over and kill the Charrs there as they're the highest level when I did it. That also counts toward your Hall of Monument titles and it's a very prestigious one as well. Also, before going out questing, make sure you always equip '"signet of capture" skill on your skill bar before entering a zone, especially in HM, which allows you to capture Elite or any skills from bosses you encounter in the zones. There's a game mode people play just going out and capturing all the Elite skills from the bosses in gw1 as they use the same skills as players. Sorry, I had to do quite a bit of editing as I noticed I repeated myself a few times, but I Hope this helps anyway.
I beeing playing this game to. I allrady played years ago and was one of my most played games. I realy like it. Becouse of henchmans i can play it alone without stress of party wipes and bother some one. I can take my time. Oh... btw... Faction for me is the most fun of the 3 starter stories
I really like this game and I still play it from time to time from 2005. Mostly during holiday events. Easy to finsh some titles during that time. Feel free to ask if you need something.
This game is great. The most active areas seem to be zaishen quests. You will find them once youre level 20 by going to embark reach or great temple of balthazar.
i think that's very thoughtful of him. some things can only be enjoyed to the fullest their first time. It might not matter to everyone, but someone might try this game for the first time and discovering things for them self. i wish i could go back and play some games for the first time, or watch movies that change after you know the twist.
Absolutely one of the greatest game experiences I've ever had.

You can run most content solo now a days, 7 customizable hero’s made it more solo friendly. Game is still challenging and rewarding
