I remember the day we got together and went through those stuffed animals. It's true, when we get a stuffed animal it's a stuffed animal but as we grow older it becomes "stuff animals". 😁
I had forgotten that we did a video that day. It was fun listening to all of you go back in memory and talking about the sentiment of each and satisfying when you decided to let some go. I think you all ended up keeping your pound puppies because I made them for you all. 5:45

"Stuff" animals...nice! I will have to put the entire video into a shared Google Drive folder. I know Laura wanted to watch the whole thing. We did keep our Pound Puppies, of course, and our Cabbage Patch Dolls that you made. Those were some of my favorite Christmas gifts ever! Good job, my thrifty and talented mama. ❤️👏

      I loved the video.
1 way I was finally able to get rid of a lot of stuffed animals was to take a picture of them (and other things I struggled with letting go). It also helped that I was able to give them to troubled teens who were in residential treatment who didn't have stuffed animals, as well as to my ex's son. It was a lot easier letting them go with the knowledge that someone else could use and would take care of them like I had for so many years.

As an ADHD person, I would say put labels on the containers that are not see through. That may work, if clear storage is not available. ❤

Yes, even clear bins get labels at my house (I am ADD). I should put more detailed tags on them than I do, but I always tag them with at least a generic statement.

    • @steggopotamus
      @steggopotamus 2 дні тому

Labels need to be detailed. "Kitchen stuff" never works for me. Something like
"Extra travel mugs & serving trays" will be opened when needed.

It's great to put stuffed animals in a grouping and take a picture before donating or tossing out. They are sentimental.

    • @JustJ-Me
      @JustJ-Me 5 днів тому

The "taking a picture" thing helped me to be able to finally be able to donate my nostalgic/ sentimental stuffed animals in my late 20's. Knowing they can go to a place to bring others joy was also very helpful.

$0 temporary fix for the fabric bins: turn them on their side so the opening is facing outward. Cardboard scraps across the bottom if need be to stop items from spilling out.

I was thinking that the shelves themselves are already "bins." Fold the clothes and put them on the shelves. Yes, it's annoying when you want something out of the middle of the stack, but you can definitely see everything you have!

@ This is so true (and FREE! The best word LOL), but the effectiveness depends on the person. I wouldn't recommend it for a low-energy/depressed person or anyone who struggles with keeping tidy. Too easy to take a shirt out the middle, have everything spill out, and then shrug and leave it all on the floor in a fit of despair to tackle "later"... I don't love vertical stacking for this reason. Though, now that I type that, the bins still have that problem. Trial and error, I guess! I wish Debany luck. I find this stuff like a puzzle and interesting to solve, but I'm weird like that. 😁

      Uuuuuhhhhh 😮 that's a great ideab😀👍 (even though I don't own this kind of boots)! 😅
∆For (my one pair of) knee-high boots I have a special kind of boot former so they don't sack down and keep their shape at the shaft specifically. Now I don't know if something like that does exist for taller boots as well.
The only downside to the boot former, at least the kind I have: For the part your foot goes in you'd need another, separate kind of shoe former. Maybe there are better options now (mine are already about 5 years old, and yes, so are the boots 😊).

Great work as usual Bonnie! As an AuDHDer I'm glad you mention flat surfaces being a hot spot. I watch a lot of ADHD cleaning/organising videos and soooo many people don't seem to make the connection between having less stuff, having less flat surfaces/storage furniture and the problem they're having (ie all the clutter and disorganisation)! My autistic brain gets so frustrated when I see them not getting rid of the bulky excess furniture, or when they're bring a heap of new clutter in to the home LOL... because they bring in more packaging and boxes and stuff stuff stuff so it's an endless cycle. Folding/arranging clothes Konmari style was a game changer for my family. No more digging around in the drawer for a certain t-shirt! I have to admit though, I cover my eyes when I see people on these channels remove their closet doors because they're a 'butterfly' or whatever other visual organisation type, because there has been research to show ADHD brains do better with a visually minimal/simplified environment. Everyone in my family is AuDHD. Some of us highly organised, clutter in containers out the way types. The others more 'organised chaos pies' everywhere where ever flat surface or space on the floor is used as storage (something I find highly stressful). I know everyone is different but overwhelmingly, my ADHD friends and family say they feel much less anxious when their home is decluttered and simplified, and they commit to not bring more stuff in to the home.

It ALWAYS gets worse before it gets better. At least that’s what happens for me. I’m about to tackle my hall closet. The top is over the counter meds, heating pads, push up handles, exercise bands, my heated rollers, our extension cords and smart plugs. Etc etc. the bottom is cleaning supplies, the stuff we don’t reach for often. Like silk plant/flower cleaning spray, the blob that removes dust from teeny spaces in the car, museum clay (earthquake savior!) and Rain-X. Then all my extra bottles of stuff I use elsewhere. I want to go through and get rid of all the expired stuff. I did buy some new stuff to add based on Dr.Beachgem’s advise for the upcoming bugs and a new thermometer ($7.27 one she said is very accurate, more so than the much more expensive ones!!) So that ought to be a hoot and a half. But right now, if one of us woke in the middle of the night with Norovirus, please Lord NOOOO, I wouldn’t be able to find anything. It’s just all mixed at this point. And that bug is vicious.

If you can't quickly come up with any ideas, that's a pretty good indication that it's not really a sentimental item to you. But, whether you do get rid of it or not, then you've got a picture and a little text about it for others later on.

I’m not a weighted blanket Autistic. Feels too oppressive. But I made my husband a half-size one after realizing that even though he’s not Autistic, it could be the answer to his lifelong struggle with restless legs, and he loved it. I used polyester beads so it’s very bulky but doesn’t leak. I’ve made a few things with glass beads, though, and I find that two layers of a tight weave fabric prevent leaks pretty well. A blanket leaking glass beads into your bed sounds truly vile. The light spills I’ve had working with them show that they like to go all static on you and resist being swept up, like bits of styrofoam.
Also those space bags are great. We used them a lot while moving and I named our air pump “The Suckinator.”
The long boots, though, should be hung up using clips, or otherwise stabilized to keep the material from losing its shape. They should not be stored collapsed or folded.

For the over the knee boots:
I saw it several times in a shoe shop: They had a rack for their boots that were clipped and on special shoe-hangers.
You can copy this idea and kinda DIY it at home: Just use a normal size clotheshanger, the kind with the clips attached (that's the same kind that can be used for skirts etc. - I'm sure you know what I'm talking about) and just instead of clothes clip your boots on it! Tadaaa!.🎉😀
Important: Always use both clips - you can slide them narrower, closer together, on the hanger - so the weight is distributed a bit and not dragging down the boot in one single spot.
And pls also be careful: Don't use too strong clips or the one with tiny "teeth" to prevent dents and marks on the shoe! A piece of fabric or some tissue paper between the clip and the boot-material can sometimes help.
Now you can clip each boot on one hanger or both together on one, depending on the thickness of the leather (or whatever material of the boot) and hang them in your closet.
Of course do NOT hang the shoes next to your nicest dress or something 😅 I guess either in an area especially for boots (if you do have the space) or in a small closet: the areas can be separated by some plastic foil (or whatever) ehich you can also clip on a hanger to create a kind of divider between shoes and clothes.... 😉👍

Thank you! Yes, you better believe if I ever won the lottery (that somehow I got entered into without my knowledge because I have never bought a lottery ticket 🤔), I wouldn't buy a fancy car or house. I would spend most of that fortune on cool storage solutions and spend my days putting people's houses in perfect order. Oh, and of course I would also have hidden rooms with an entire one dedicated to storing my hoard of containers. 😉😁

Well done Debany!! Maybe for the taller shoes, if you tie the top part of the laces of pairs together you could hang them off the end bars of the shoe racks, to get them off the floor. Then the tall one with no laces could be on the top shelf of the shoe rack.
As an ADHDer too, if you want to see what's in the boxes in the wardrobe you can rotate them down towards you 90 degrees.

I have that same shoe rack. Great idea with tying and hanging on the ends. As long as the weight is fairly balanced, I believe it would work.

Hi, Bonnie! I just want to say that you always inspire me to be a better organizer. I’ve been watching you a while and you motivate me to tackle some of my most avoided areas of chaos. I’m relatively organized by nature. BUT sometimes I put off doing stuff I don’t like. So, if you ever wonder if what you do makes a difference….it does!! All the way to Tennessee! Thank you!

I resisted turning the stacks in the drawers on their side for quite a while. But my husband is ADHD and also a man (lol) and doesn't bother to look below what's on top. So I turned his stacks on their side so he can see every shirt. What a game changer. I helped my daughter do it for her husband too, and he LOVES it. He has about 80-100 tee shirts and is extremely sentimental. So now he wears all of his shirts instead of just what's on top. Loved your tips at the end. Love your videos. 🖤

For the makeup and beauty supplies, places like Marshall’s, TJMax, I even think Dollar Tree have an assortment of small clear acrylic drawers designed to hold makeup and jewelry. Those and a small lighted makeup mirror would make that desk a great vanity. I also like under-the-bed roll out containers to put shoes, instead of the shoe rack. It hides the visual clutter for me.
