I know people always say "this band/artist/performance is so underrated!" But for real! These guys are incredible! 4.5k views doesn't do them justice man!!!
I've been listening to the Dregs from the very beginning...and in all those years I was never able to see them. I mean, there are worse regrets in life, but this one still irks me. Amazing band, beautiful compositions.
Yes, if we ever got a recording, or video of that, that would be amazing. I guess the video cameras where not that practical yet, around then. I don't think I even heard a sound bootleg from it, either, they did quite a few shows with that lineup.
The Steve Morse band was the opening act for this show. And Steve really did blow the mighty trio away in his classic humble understated way on the 1983 tour.
I heard about that show - i used to see them ie dixie dregs/dregs/steve morse band mostly at my father's place on long island - and anywhere in city. Geez - they never dissapointed.
Consummate Dregs "Live" video as "Steve Morse Band's (SMB) Baden-Baden Ohne-Filter" UA-cam is the consummate SMB live presentation. Very professionally done..... Someday this video will have millions of views!!!......Ty for posting it.

There's nothing like these guys. There's more talent on that stage than many many popular bands combined. Hats off. This was SMB opening for the Dixie Dregs. I saw this show when they came to NC. SMB opened for Dixie Dregs was hands down the best concert I've ever been to.
It's a real testament to Humankind that people can produce such amazing music. I think civilizations on other planets would be quite impressed by our musical acumen..assuming of course that their ears could distinguish an A from an A# 🎸🎶
Wish they would identify the players they changed pickers a few times. I remember when Mark O'CONNOR played violin with them. Great upload thank you awesome concert.
There are vocal bands and instrumental bands, and there are solo artists who sing or are just instrumental. I love them all but Instrumental bands are amongst my favorites. Talent and exceptionalism are opinions but The Dregs or Dixie Dregs are one of those extraordinarily talented instrumental bands (groups), like Brand X that just define synchronicity. I don't know how groups like this do it, just EXTRAORDINARY! I'm lucky I got to see them once in the SF Bay Area.
In fact there is no other guitarist is even mention in guitar magazine or in forums to take his place. Steve Morse is out of his own as far as sheer wide spectrum talent. Master level playing all known styles.
@markit... i've seen The Dregs/Dixie about 10 times near Philly since 1980. I was at this show. Jerry Goodman fit the band so well. Did you see them at Emerald City or Electric factory?
Great upload. Thanks. But...setlist? What's the tune called, that starts at 47:05 and on, after "Shapes Of Things"? New Dregs tune? I know they made some Mahavishnu covers in the past, but this one escapes me, maybe some J.Goodman pinned thing... ? cover? original ? First time I heard/hear it though. Dregs/SMB usually doesn't (didn't) use odd time meters in that particular vein. EDIT: Any setlist of this concert at setlist.fm isn't even right anyway, a lot of other mistakes there too. So that one isn't reliable at all.
Now, I got the tune. Took quite some research. Not in the wildest imagination I thought that Mahavishnu Orchestra did any tune that clocked in under 3.00 minutes! LOL! It's called "Celestial Terrestial Commuters". One that totally passed me by during my McLaughlin years during the 70s. None that stuck into my mind.
Already made a comment but then wanted to make another........good freakin' God, 2005 was over 15 years ago and I'm accustomed to thinking in terms of 1970s.......1980s........etc. Well, anyone reading this who feels like "OK Boomer"....I really, honestly, get it (truly, I really do), because it is the same things that me and my friends said about the generation before ours..... ponder it awhile and you'll figure it out.....
As good as any band ever. Tunes, chops and chutzpah. Morse said they were too rock for jazz and too jazz for rock. When their first album came out they were too good for the current tastes, and five years too late. But game changing

RIP T Lavitz ! ... Steve is my personal Guru & a Hero as a guitarist since 1978 ! ...
Me too - he's been my hero since '79. Still cant play like him but that's ok . . .
@@bob5951 - nobody can play like Steve ! ...
That was one hell of a blistering hot solo at the end of "Hereafter"! Holy shee-it!
Love this! Thank you for uploading. Saw Morse open for Paco, John, and Al in 1983. Steve stole the show and got a standing ovation as well.

Friday Night in SF? Man, what a video that would make!

Game changer band for me man. Heard them in the 8th grade (1982) and changed my whole musical direction. Led to King Crimson, Zappa, Blow by Blow etc
I saw them in late 78 for $3. As soon as their first record was released people have been talking about steve morse. What a player.
I love these guys. I wish T Lavitz's keyboards were a little louder.

Well put my friend!!!!
Seen them alot, saw this tour in San Diego. Kudos markit, this is a sweet recording of a very nice show .... 🙂
❤ these guys since the 70's
I saw this double bill in New York City. Just killer! Thanks for the share... well done!
Wish they would identify the players they changed pickers a few times. I remember when Mark O'CONNOR played violin with them. Great upload thank you awesome concert.
Steve's fingers are made from lightning and fire. There's no other explanation.
I was there!
Killer concert. Morse was on fire \o/
Great upload, many thanks!!
I think there was a SMB gig the same night also...would be great to watch it too.
Rod is to drums what Steve Morse is to guitar...period
Absolutely correct.
Insane!! 🤪
Song list Please!!!! (Thank for upload this!!!!!!!! yeah!!!!)

Timeless!
ty this great! really is ❤❤
Steve Morse has always been the most physically and musically fit of all guitarists!
In fact there is no other guitarist is even mention in guitar magazine or in forums to take his place. Steve Morse is out of his own as far as sheer wide spectrum talent. Master level playing all known styles.
Well he rips like no one else and his is always ripped adn cut LOL@@tracyeaves4847

I'd love to say great things about Morse and Co. but others already have. And BTW hi Steve!

Makes his work with Deep Purple look elementary.
Sounds like an excellent concert. Camera operator should've just pull back if he doesn't know the gig and can't ficus on the soloists.

Was this the show when the Steve Morse Band opened for the Dixie Dregs? If so I was there.
Yes it was. Hence the second drum kit.
interesting, but not my music........
Morgenstien is a beast.
audio quality leaves a lot to be desired..
True musicians, Steve a legend!!!
