🤔 Alan, that was a great story of remembrance with excellent musical accompaniment. 👍 Congratulations also, Alan, for completing a transatlantic crossing on a boat you built to your country of birth. 👍 😎
Congratulations Alan!!! What an amazing adventure! You are a master of planning and thoroughness - from the construction of your vessel to the completion of your voyage in life and at sea!! I bet Mrs. Rover is overjoyed!🎉
Chapeau Alan … congratulations and well done! Closing the circle that your parents began with that sea voyage all those years ago is truly special. My Mom’s ancestors came from Ireland so perhaps one day I’ll visit the Emerald Isle too. Looking forward to the next chapter in your grand adventure. PS: That first pint of Guinness must have been perfect … Sláinte! ⛵️🇨🇦⚓️🇮🇪🍺🌞
What a sense of accomplishment you must feel I'm so happy for you. Also thank you so much for the opportunity to donate to you and have the name of my channel on your boat it is such an honor and one of the best donations I've ever made that I can think of. I can't get over how easy you make everything look and how ship-shape everything is and before I forget you should also be recognized for what a good job you do in making your videos. They are delightful to watch. Thanks again for the inspiration and adventure.
Salutations from Cowichan Bay, Vancouver Island. Most Happiest of New Years. Your journey is the epitome of personal conviction... backed up by ample and obvious crafstmanship ... heroically topped up with a sizeable dollop of faith. Well done, Sir. Sir Francis Chichester and Tristan Jones, your adventure-predecesors would be proud of you. 🎉
Wow what an amazing story and such a feat to cross this massive ocean in your beautiful wee boat!! Congratulations - you are strong snd brave and a most interesting character!! Thank you for all these wonderful videos !! Now I’m off to forge my next adventure - a trip to Mexico and my first one that’s not an all inclusive lol Krack on Alan - you’re just awesome and such an inspiration to many!! 🙌🏼
Alan a Chará, Welcome home and congratulations, I have enjoyed your adventure from the first ocean crossing on your Contessa 26 through the entire build of wave Rover 2, Hope you have a lovely time in Ireland, thank you for sharing your deep wisdom and life's philosophies, God bless
Really enjoyed your reflection, Alan, on the first property you purchased near the lake. Even what might have seemed like a relatively humble endeavour, the memories and never ending joy it brought you will always be a part of your journey in life.
Alan that was amazing….watching you turn a few sheets of plywood into a living breathing vessel and watching her carry you across the sea has been incredible. Can’t wait to see more of your voyage.
Leaving Ireland for Canada at age 24, I always intended to sail back as you have just done. I left it too long as I am now 77, and too old..Fun to live it through you. Thanks and welcome home.
@ drizzling rain, the size that enters your pours. But, soft ground to fall on! So, I would say Ireland is reaching out to us, as you are reaching out to Ireland.
Allan- Your life stories are priceless-and the sailing is not bad either! I grew up in a remote fishing village above 60 North so we ate a lot of fish and of course we had chickens but the idea of a fish omlette never crossed my mind-I think I might just try it! Good job Allan and take care!
Well, done Allen! Thanks for sharing the symmetry of your life with the UA-cam community. I have been sailing the waters of Washington State and the Canadian Gulf Islands in a 22 foot sailboat. 2025 will be the year I forge the adventure further North in hopes of reaching my birthplace in Alaska. Looking forward to your future inspirational videos. My wife and I plan to visit Dublin in March. I assume you will be long gone.
I have to say, when you headed across the Atlantic in that little boat I thought that might be the last we hear from you. However, you did it. I'm so proud of you for doing what I'm sure many thought was a little crazy lol. Much respect. Seriously amazing and inspirational. All the best.
For a moment I thought I was remembering David lee graham aboard Dove when he was caught in the doldrums. Then I fast forwarded. Congratulations on the voyage and proving to no one's surprise that it is not only possible but enjoyable to cross oceans in a 21 foot Junk Rigged boat. Well Done!
I really enjoyed your story about the World Series. I think you capture in words and video how long passages can lead to an exploration of your mind and the past. At least that has been my experience. Fair winds and following seas.
Congratulations and all the best wishes for the New Year and many more to come! Your Mark III looked after you and Wave Rover II as a trusted friend. Looking forward to future adventures!
Magnificent achievement Alan, Six eggs, Salmon, Sardines, and Herring. a feat far beyond me, oh,..and the crossing?.....right up there with the Sardines. Congrats sir.😂😂😂❤.
What an achievement Alan. I'm sure if you ever hang up your sails in the future, the fabulous monologues at the end of this series of videos will bring a smile to your face. They certainly brought one to mine. WELL DONE!
Congrats! Well done and hope you enjoyed a good Guinness after that! 🙂 I did not understand why you left the nice warm South to go to Ireland, but now that is clear! Have fun!!!!
Well done Alan! Great to watch! You have inspired me to go back to sea again. Thank you! Can't wait to see what's next! Guinness is a special thing - so is genius! Thank you!
I might have said it before, but ill say it again. You have made a terrific ship, and a terrific adventure! When i watch your videos i'm admiring the craftsmanship you have put in building the boat. I admire the finish i so much want to let my hand slide over the beautiful lines of Wave Rover 2. It looks so smooth and perfect. I'm not sure about the total amount of time you spend on sailing, but it's around 30 days in total - and all alone. That's actually pretty impressive. I'm not sure i would be able to do that. I don't think many could? One thing though. As amazing you are as a craftsman, building in wood, fibreglass and so, navigating your ship, sailing and an more, you really lack one very important skill. Well you don't need it, because you don't miss it. But i would never go sailing even for a day trip, without enjoying the pleasure of making good dishes. Even when i was young, and was sailing for sports - a 24 hour race and so, one of the most important things were to be able to make good food for the crew and me. Some things as simple as a sandwich with pate, would taste much better if there were a slice of cucumber involved. That means a lot to me, but as you explain, you don't worry much about eating the same dish over and over again. Well nobody is perfect. ;) Congratulations with what you have done. It has been a privilege to follow you again. On Marine Traffic i can see Wave Rover is anchored on the East coast of Ireland. I guess that means, you have more planed in the future?
I have never sailed, i have no real interest in sailing, but i subscribed to your channel and have been following your exploits and found the whole thing fascinating. thank you for sharing your journeys with us, and very well done indeed.
Alan . I understand you were in the RCN although I was not I have a son based in Halifax for 18+ years .He is a Marine Tech PO1. He served on the Oriole when he was on west coast.I think you would make an excellent candidate to Skipper Blue Nose II .
Great video, congrats! Meanwhile watching your journey unfold, i follow the vendee globe around the world. What a difference. These guys at 20 Knots average suffer noise and discomfort 24 hours a day. I read somewhere they hate to be at sea, just in it for the sponsor money. How sad, I love your way of doing things. Respect!
I’ve always enjoyed watching your channel even though I have never been on a sailboat in all my life. I think it’s just the adventurous spirit I relate to. Can’t help but noticing you have seemed to have lost quite a a bit of weight. Noticing red spots on your face too. I don’t know maybe just be sure you get enough calories. Adding olive oil to your pot would help. Keep UV rays off your face using sunscreen. Silly me giving you advice but I’m 66 and just thru-hiked the 500 mile Colorado Trail through the Rockies this past summer. I was exposed to lots of UV plus burned many calories daily. It was my nose and lips that took the most punishment since I did not protect those areas enough. Congrats on your crossing. Best wishes and Happy Sails to you from Texas.
Well done Alan I have watched all your videos, from Azores to Baltimore, I live in Kinsale and raced yachts for years, brilliant piece of sailing and your recipes great.
seriously you should be proud of yourself!! look back at at 12 year old you and see you now. i bet the 12 year old you would be surprised maybe and proud of the old you. i'm the opposite unfortunately; but never too late!! Happy for you!!!
Pt2. I just cant believe it! My family came from Bantry Bay. Journeyed to Bermuda (royal navy) and my great great grandfather and his dad wrote a book called Sketches of Bermuda or Midsomer Isles. The book resides in the british museum as a book of historical significance Your journey has evoked my imagination of those men sailing without power to these far away place Utterly delighted to see your arrival mate !!

Fabulous Alan. Congratulations! Taking this voyage with you has been wonderful.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the journey.
Congratulations indeed. It takes a lot of guts to do this. I do have to hold back the 🤢every time he cooks that fishy mess however. Lol
