Takes me back to the mid 60's when my mother would take us here. This was the only location I knew of and I've lived all over the US. Today, I decided to look them up and was pleasantly surprised to find this video. Thank you!

They should make a new French Market! Enchanting idea.

Wasn't there a merry-go-round in French Market? I seem to remember one but it was never running when we were there. I loved Kiddie Land next door. I remember when French Market was going out of business. I got a huge bag of costume jewelry for a dollar. I still have some of the pieces.

We watched them build it from the house I grew up in - at 91st and Lowell.

I remember the French Market. A shame it couldn't last & that Metcalf Shopping Mall prob contributed to that. Kind of ironic that now most of our malls are gone & stores like Costco are the thing. Wonder if French Market could have better lasted nowadays. Great vid, thank you

Was this the structure that later became K-Mart and is now being demolished. Directly north of the old Metcalf South Mall across 95th, but on the same side of Metcalf?

      Yes, indeed it was.

@@zachelder8525 Cool, thanks! I can't recall visiting there, but I must have as a kid as both my mom and grandmother were bigtime Metcalf corridor shoppers in the 70's/80's. I do remember when it *became* K-mart, but I don't know what it was before then. Metcal South was me and my brother's mall, having Clint's Comics and an arcade. We much preferred it to the newer/nicer Oak Park Mall...but we were in the minority.
