I'm old, I just want to watch regular TV. NO internet, NO cable ,nothing ! I just want to watch regular TV. NO extra cost for streaming a device that cost extra money or satalite service that cost a fortune and keeps going up. I don't know anything about all these hundreds of devices , like roku , fire sticks, orange others that plug in to your TV. NOR do I know about all the gadgets you use thru direct TV or Dishnet. I live in a rural area so I don't know what type of antenna or box I would need to get as many channels as possible. Oh well !! I guess I'm lost in a world where complicated tech is taking over and every minute of your life cost you money , even to just try and relax and watch a show on TV. Because I remember when watching TV did not cost anything, even if you left your TV on 24 hours a day.
i'm kinda in same boat.... i hope you got simple over the air antenna from walmart... just attach to back of tv and see what channels... i'm surprised no one else replied
I live in a rural area and don't have internet, wifi, or cable. But I got an antenna from Antennas direct. They have outdoor and indoor, I've tried both. The outdoor one is the best, though both are good. I live 45 miles from the towers. And I get over 20 free channels. It reminds me of when I was a kid in the 80s, but just more modern. No monthly fees or anything. Pretty easy to set up. If you live close by a radio station, hospital, airport, ect, you might need an LTE filter to stop interference with the channels. It's usually around $20 and worth it. I used one when I lived next to a hospital paired with the indoor one. It worked great for me. I haven't paid for cable or dish for years. It takes some patience, setting them up and finding the best spot and direction, but worth it. Also, if there's distance or the TV is old a digital box can be added too to help pull in and stabilize more channels. The cheaper Ines work fine. Good luck.
Well, my smart TV used to let me watch OTA programs without connecting to the internet. But an update several months ago changed that and prevented the watching of local TV channels OTA. I live in a very rural area with problematic internet connection, so this is an issue, especially during storms. OK, I had a work around. I could put the TV on HDMI input and use a DVD player with an internal tuner. Well, another recent update now won't allow the TV to use an HDMI input without WiFI connection. WTF?
"Short answer" that's the main line these days ain't it? 😁 damn. Never thought that buying and watching TV would evolve into such an over complicated matter 🙃... ❤
I was just skimming some of these comments here. Well I have no TV today because the stupid internet connections out, and rebooting did not fix the issue. They'll send out a tech tomorrow, and you know they're going to try to charge me. I am furious at this whole internet crap that we have to deal with anymore! They want us to do everything online and it's so darn frustrating and complicated! Bring back the old TV's... dang..it!
Bush 24" smart tv bought for my 90yr old mother who only has a landline and a tv ariel, and only needs basic freeview channels , hence just checking that it will allow these basic simple tasks, without any complications ?
My dad pays over $100 a month & he is not wanting to continue watching reruns, some programs he refuses to watch because of the bad language. So he turns it. Alot of programs would be good if the foul language would be deleted. So why pay for things you cannot watch.
They’re making all TVs “smart” because they are making money by collecting and selling your user/viewing/internet data; it’s not just market demand. Your TVs are collecting data on you and the manufacturer is selling to anyone who’ll pay.
FYI google referenced your video after I did a search asking if smart TVs were a little cheaper due to companies with apps on the TV subsidizing cost of tv for obvious reasons.
What gets me riled up is the reluctance of salesmen to admit that this is a possibility. I recently bought a Samsung TV (delivery in a few days) and even their online user guide makes a very faint reference that this is possible (consequence is that you will only be able to use cable and the sort…no smart services). Online chat with Samsung also very reluctant to say this is possible…but one tech guy admitted it was but explained he’d be out of a job if this was more clearly described in the user guide.
I was gifted with two smart TVs when a friend of mine passed away. I don't want to connect to the internet since I am concerned about my TV spying on me. I don't want to turn my TV to turn into an "espianage box."
My Smart tv works great and has plenty of channels via wifi. The only channel i miss is my states NBA team on cable or antenna only. I don't pick up anything from my indoor antenna. Which makes no since. Yes i changed my input to scan the off air channels .
This is not true. I just returned a Vizio smart tv because I couldn't watch my cable TV with it. It kept asking me for my internet connection with no way to bypass it.
I have a Firestick for years. I use that. Everytime I start my smart TV never goes straight to my cable, I have to search for hdmi1. It sucks. I like the non smart tv.
I'm thinking about getting a QD-OLED from Samsung, but am already sick of the ads and spying. So I'm thinking to use a Raspberry with Kodi for everything online.
Does anyone know if I could get a smart TV in order to watch downloaded movies from my phone via bluetooth? No Internet connection. I really appreciate anyone getting back to me on it.
I have samsung Qled TV it fantastic .Works if voice. Its a Tizen OS and I have no lag or what ever you call it.This TV is not top of the range £1500 but is a great TV. Its got google alexa and bixby. I change my tv station by voice bixby works great on my Samsung TV it gets better over time believe it or not and I have Geordie accent. How ever I do use google on my PC for dictating. I have recently switch from sony to samsung microwave washing machine TV. I stopped with my Iphone years ago it was so far behind samsung. Samsung in revolutionary un electrical products inproving all the time . Sorry to say apple more like evolutionary get there 5 years later. I take great photo's with my samsung S23 ultra. Who would have thought take your phone out of your pocket and take pictures of moon. Yep thats a samsung phone
Vizio will NOT work without an internet connection. You can't even setup the tv without wifi. So if you want a tv for offline your better off to find another brand. This is why you can't find any information in setting Vizio up without internet, because it can't be done.

Me too!!!! Welcome to the club!!!
You're just smart yourself, so a regular TV will do just fine.
A non smart tv should work. You can get a 22 inch one.

I can't get my smart TV to access my dvd when the internet goes down.
No one took it away from you. I would recommend a non-smart tv, with cable and a Smart Box, so you get the best of both worlds.
I feel like I'm at an IT conference call- can you explain simplistically the main question

Very clear explanation! Thank you!
How to set it up

I have changed my name and password to keep it from logging in.
And I have turned off several of the internet features and disagreed to some of the tersand conditions regarding the microphone and camera access.

Great presentation - could you include use of a NAS box, for off-grid viewing my own content?
NAS BOX ???? PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THAT.
This is not true. I just returned a Vizio smart tv because I couldn't watch my cable TV with it. It kept asking me for my internet connection with no way to bypass it.
Same here...have you gotten any luck in the past month?
Same here.Smart tv's suck!!
Thank you for sharing
What do I need to watch our smart tv and apps with Direct-Tv without Wi-Fi and internet while on the road in RV, some parks have no Wi-Fi
I don’t have internet-If I buy A Smart TV I can still use the TV?
6:36 my LG TV broke last night..
No you won't be able to. I've been through this with new smart tvs. You have to buy a dumb tv or use an older one.
@melindamcclain835 I have an old roku tv...do you think that would do the trick?
I have a Firestick for years. I use that. Everytime I start my smart TV never goes straight to my cable, I have to search for hdmi1. It sucks. I like the non smart tv.

Will a chromcast work
I'm gonna get me a roku TV they seem like they do all kinds of fun stuff.
I'm about to turn off our cable! I know cable is so ancient 😂
Does anyone know if I could get a smart TV in order to watch downloaded movies from my phone via bluetooth? No Internet connection.
I really appreciate anyone getting back to me on it.
I dont have the internet here and dont stream, nor will pay the high tv bill to watch reruns. I just want to use the tv/dvd player to watch my dvds
That was not helpful
