Hi Brandon, I actually flipped the Ultra so the Digital Crown was on the left side instead. Solved the issue of it scraping my wrist bone. You can do this in General > Wrist Orientation, would recommend!
Best thing about the watch for me is battery life. I get 2.5 days very consistently using it for notifications, exercise tracking, sleep tracking etc. It literally uses 40% battery life every 24 hours. I have not tried low power mode yet but would expect 4 days to maybe 5 days. Very happy with that. I dont do remote hiking or anything but the watch was still worth it for me because of this battery life improvement. Also like the action button.
I get from between 80 and 90 hours between charges. That is with email, texts, sleep, and daily workouts. I could not be happier. This is my 8th, with all but my ultra being stainless steel, and I do not see myself going back to the old design. Love it!!
Just got my Ultra today. Coming from a 40 mm Series 4 this is such a huge leap….and Im totally loving this watch. Such a beautiful device that fits my wrist so wonderfully. I got the Trail loop black/grey and its very comfortable. It can fit in any position and looks very pretty in combo with the watch.
Mine lasts 2.5 days very consistently in normal mode. I have not tried using it in low power mode to see how long it lasts but I would expect at least 4 days.
It really is time Apple gave us better Digital watch face options. Most of them are so dated now and don’t give us a large digital time display as well as complications. They’re either huge time units with little to no other info or tiny time units with loads of other info
i agree with everything you said in this video and i got one as well and i’m loving it. everything you said in here perfectly lined up with everything i would say about it so well done!
Just got one yesterday!! It is really nice coming from a series 6. I got the orange band you got I don’t like it I’m using my old product red band and it very comfortable. Very nice watch and I really love it. It’s not heavy at all and is really nicer than I thought it would be. 😅😊🎉
I’ve just got one. Coming from an S4. It’s a very good looking watch and has a real presence. The battery life is fantastic. I love leaving the phone in at home/in the car and taken my my AirPods and also have home down time and respite from the usual social media notifications. Def recommend.
I don’t like how soon the ultra dims and doesn’t immediately wake when I move my wrist. I have all the correct settings on but no one can see my watch face’s because it’s so dim all the time
I just picked one up yesterday and I love it so much. But I’m sure that will wear off soon because it’s kinda just like my 7 was. And $870 after tax is a lot of money for a watch. And it looks like an expensive Watch. I love it.
I got mine asap & I love it I have all three bands alpine orange was my first love it but the trail loop makes me forget I have it on at times 10/10 recommended
I think the Apple Watch Ultra is perfect for those who do the most extreme things. I currently still have the Series 3 but I plan on getting the Series 8 product red to match it with my iPhone 14 product red.
Excellent review. Best apple product I have used. It Iove it and enjoy it very much. It comes down to this: if you can afford it, just get it even it is an overkill. If you cannot afford it, forget it, don’t regret and get what you can afford.
The reason the crown digs into your wrist is because you and others are wearing it on your wrist bone and that's incorrect. It needs to sit just behind the wrist bone for it to be out of the way.
Hey 👋🏾 Brandon. I didn't think I was the target audience for the Ultra and boy am I happy I picked it up. My wife has the Series 8, so I can shed some light on the difference between the two. The Ultra has features that are simply killer for what I wanted. Battery life, size, new design and brightness make it a no brainer for me. My wife loves the look of the Ultra, but it looked silly on her small wrist (here's hoping for a smaller ultra model). I don't have a negative at all, but the price tag is steep and you should consider that for sure!
I have gotten 3 full days usage. (Always display off, messaging, timers for lab work & calls). No cellphone use while working. I have bumped into doorways and walls. No cracks, no chips.
Had a watch since 0 version and the Ultra since day one release in Australia. Best Apple product so far and I would say the next version won’t be as strong as this is perfect. Have the green and orange Alpine loop bands ,the Midnight Ocean band which just fits, and the Black grey trail one which is also a tight fit to slip on but fits a little longer than the ocean band and is the most comfortable. I shower and swim with all and the orange Alpine gets the dirtiest but surprisingly gets clean quickly. I do t think I’ll be upgrading like I have been for a while.
Wasn't sure about it but now I love my Ultra. I barely feel it on my wrist and I love the extra screen space and Action button. The battery life is unbelievable for an Apple Watch. Can't imagine going back to the regular Watch. Thinking about getting that orange band. One of my favorite colors.
Great video. I got the Ultra a few days ago, along with the orange Alpine Loop, Green Alpine Loop and the black/grey Trail Loop which came on the watch. I got the Series 8 when it first came out, after initially not liking the Ultra on thin wrists (I have thin wrists). But recently the Ultra has really grown on me and I regretted not getting it over the Series 8. So I decided to order the Ultra, try it out for 7 days on my day to use, and see if I like it better than the Series 8. If I do, I will sell the Series 8 (I should still get a lot of money back for it as it's the stainless steel model and it's still the newest model). So far I'm absolutely loving the Ultra and its my favourite Apple Watch since the Series 2 (which was my first Apple Watch). My first impression strangely was that it looked smaller on my wrist than I thought it would, and also despite it been larger than the Series 8, it does not really feel heavier on my wrist than it. I suppose with me been used to wearing the stainless steel 45mm version there is not a great deal of difference in the weight between it and the titanium of the Ultra, hence why I don't really feel any weight difference with the Ultra. Things that I'm really enjoying are the flat screen, larger screen, the extra brightness (which I'm really noticing outdoors), increased battery life. Although I have never had an issue with battery life on the more recent Apple Watches, the extra battery life is really welcome as I do not need to worry if I need to charge my Apple Watch because I will be doing a couple of workouts the next day, or going on a lengthy walk the next day. Now with the Ultra I can get at least an extra day with my usual usage, than what I did with the Series 8 or obviously even more if I don't do any workouts etc on that part of the week. To add to what I have already said, I also really like that totally different look to what we are used to seeing with the standard Apple Watch. Yes I will never use this watch to its full potential, but saying that, how many people buy expensive divers style watches from Rolex, Omega, Breitling and similar and never go diving with them. If I continue to enjoy the Ultra, then I can safely say that I will be moving over to the Ultra from the standard Apple Watch.
I want to have one but not yet. Why? The battery life when it would be pitted against an ultra running distance of 100k or more. I hope an update next year would address that. Then maybe I would get one.
To address the battery comment and as someone who's done Garmin, Samsung, and swiss automatics like Omega. The battery life is fine, for anyone whose hiking, diving, camping, or whatever. Even in my 22 years of the military, I was never without a USB port or power source of some kind for more than a day. The truth is that people complaining about this are just jumping on the bandwagon. Every self-respecting adventurer or traveler has a power adaptor, battery bank of at least 5-10k mah, a cable or so, etc. I bought off Amazon a key fob to charge the watch from any power source for like $10 bucks, as an expedition gram counter can tell you it weighs a whopping 1.6oz in my pack, could pack the Apple one but I don't. I'd rather have rechargeable everything in the wilderness headlamp, watch, phone, etc. than takes batteries. I'd truthfully rather take an Apple watch into the wild than a Garmin. Garmin is clunky and super frustrating to use it's literally 2000s computing and interface they don't update. I have a closet full of Garmin devices that I don't use because they don't honor map sharing of the very expensive maps, the interface sucks, can't see the screens in daylight. In a nutshell don't care who you are diver, trekker, pilot, climber, or alpinist/mountaineer, paramotor cross-country guy doesn't matter. Everybody has at least a battery pack most of us who go truly remote often have solar panels as well. Battery life is a non-issue, you can even do what I did with the Samsungs years ago put that sucker in low power mode or turn it off except when you want to log a waypoint, lunch, or camp.
The main flaw of this watch is that it isn’t a must have device, like I need my iPhone, I don’t need my watch. It’s nice to have. Apple needs to increase the amount of vital sensors, and that will go a long way to making this thing a must have.
I got mine the day it came out- same band as you, but the tan. It got dirty FAST, and I replaced it with my black band from previous watch. I love the extra speakers- if you're running, you can hear announcements or SIRI so clearly! Great video!
I really need to see what I can do to extend battery. I hit a second day, barely. But I agree is by far the best watch I have owned it stands out and it doesn't clash with suits or anything like I thought it might. It all depends on the band you wear with whatever outfit or suit you have on.
I’ve always been the one to use my watch only during work and it still needed charge after a full day. After purchasing the Ultra I never take it off (unless it’s charging ofc). My battery last almost a full 2 days because I customized my watch face using the Clockology app so it’s a video of my daughter. I took the steps you gave to turn off the activity notifications and fewer gps heart rate readings so I’m hoping this makes up for the animated watch faces. Overall I’m inlove with the watch and being able to use bands 44mm and above saved me lots of money on new bands.
Do you need cellular data to take advantage of the backtracking feature and is it better on the ultra vs the series 8? That feature would be a big thing for me
I originally did not want to get this watch but after seeing it in person I purchased it and by far my favorite Apple Watch ever and I been using different Apple Watch from the beginning with the OG Series 0
I’m glad you like it but I went with the Series 8 45mm Cellular version. The Ultra is too bulky and looks ridiculous on me. If others like that look, that’s wonderful! Just not for me.
Awesome review Brandon!!.Love your clear and amazing videos!!.You are really amazing and your informative videos are so great!!. The WATCH ultra really does seem really cool,But the price not so much!.
I need one I might get it this year I have the series 6 and it’s been holding pretty well but I feel the difference on battery compared to when I first go it so I think I’m going to buy the ultra this year I do mountain biking so this watches haved been very handy for me
I've had my Ultra for about 2 months now, and I love it. But there is one big flaw that I don't see anyone pointing out.... The action button. They don't allow it to do enough. They added and whole new button to the watch and only allow you to program one action to it. This was a huge missed opportunity and something I think they can fix in software. You should be able to program at minimum 2 actions to the "action" button. They need to add the ability to double tap and possible triple tap for additional actions. If they really wanted this to be a watch for ppl who do multiple high intensity sports/workouts then they need to be able to program multiple actions. I go to the gym, run, and play volleyball multiple times a week plus the occasional hike. I would like to be able to on tap for the gym, double tap for my runs and triple tap for volleyball (yes I know I'm repeating myself). I Still love the watch, but in its current state it's a purposeful self own by Apple.
i really like the Apple Watch Ultra but I can’t justify buying it. it’s overkill for me. it would be interesting if in the next AWU they add a solar power function like the Garmin watch, so the battery life is even longer
@@steve9348 - They don’t include it because it wouldn’t help much, considering the power draw of the Ultra. An analogy is they don’t bother putting solar panels on electric cars because, considering how much power the EV draws in use, it wouldn’t be significant. However, with the advent of super efficient EVs like the Aptera (100 Wh/mile instead of 230 for a Model 3), it adds enough range to make it worth it.
It’s actually not that big, you’ll notice it first day. You’ll grow into it. Still look professional at work n wearing it day 2 day basic. Not even doing outdoor activities
i love my first apple watch series 7 and firstly my plan was to upgrade to the ultra but decided to wait until maybe the second gen ultra. i have the series 7 with titanium and celluar, and for the temp sensor or the better gps i think i dont need it really, i just hope that next gen will be more feature rich. and the battery life is now amazing.
I agree, I keep wanting to return my 7 45mm and get the ultra but first if it was $650 i would get it then i just think the 2nd gen of the ultra is worth waiting for? Decisions decisions…
I have had ever Apple Watch since day one but never felt they was made at the fullest until the ultra with the 4 day battery life I’m getting out of it. And even to the point I don’t know I have it on my arm probably one of the best products I have brought I may no use everything but it’s worth it
Considering the price, all the crash tests, real-life tests (less than a day of battery life while doing sports) - that is worse than an SE model of apple watch. Cool it exists, but totally not worth it By the way, if you look for similar priced Garmin watches - they are way better (battery, gps signal strength, real sapphire glass etc) and has most of the functions you need, like payments (no music tho)
No cellular here in Ireland and I can get up to 60 hrs sometimes longer even without low power mode if I just use the GPS and workout app for an hour a day. Battery obviously doesn’t last as long if I use the watch to track a 5 or 6 hour cycle though.
Great review, this is the best apple products that I have purchased in several years! I have owned every Apple Watch before this one including the eight and almost every iPhone pro. Hands-down. This has been the most impressive to me.
i remember buyng a screen protector for my first apple watch some years ago now i have the most expensive AW ever and it's over i dont bother anymore even for my iphone ...
Do not recall bunping my self when I was sighted. Now that I am blind does not happen. Never had issue with my series 3,4, 6, and 7. Is this a new thing for sighted people hurting themselves and their watch?
Since the Apple Watch Series 3 back in 2018, I’ve always gone with the cheaper aluminium Apple Watch and it’s always scratched that’s why I’ve decided to get the Apple Watch ultra because of the strongest sapphire crystal display, siren and better GPS
Are you aware that you cannot send messages to android if you turn your phone off? I wonder if it’s just my watch. Messages go through between IOS devices but does not go through any android devices if turned off, only goes through if your phone is on.
I have a Apple watch 6 Titanium and a Ultra (on my wrist right now) and will be returning the Ultra. I don't mind charging once a day and whatever else is the difference between a normal Apple Watch and Ultra is not noticeable for me in my daily use... so I can't justify the price. I wanted to love it and not return it but it did not work.
I have the 6 Titanium also. I think the Ultra will be too big for my wrist unfortunately. What is your wrist size and how did you think it compared in feel on the wrist?
I wish they made a mini version of the apple watch like the fitbit luxe cause as someone who loves watches and still keep track of all the data I would love something to wear as a wristband or such on my right wrist and have my usual watches on the left.
Is the Apple Watch Ultra overkill for you? Or are you wanting one/already have one?
Kinda
I am excited for you to reach 1M, I've been watching you since 500K. keep it up mate
i love mine
Already have one. Best product they’ve released in a ver very long time!
Maybe when I lose my mind about paying for a watch, what I can pay for a flagship phone from google, for example, 😂😂😂
Hi Brandon, I actually flipped the Ultra so the Digital Crown was on the left side instead. Solved the issue of it scraping my wrist bone. You can do this in General > Wrist Orientation, would recommend!
Good tip! Thanks

I love mine. I wish we could put it into some kind of expedition mode, were it cuts out all the smart features and lasts a few days.
Mine lasts 2.5 days very consistently in normal mode. I have not tried using it in low power mode to see how long it lasts but I would expect at least 4 days.
Sweet idea! But wouldn't it kind of negate the whole idea? I mean, all the features are there for exactly that, no?
Get a Garmin if you’re looking for a fitness watch with fewer smart features.
Samsung does that but it basically becomes a normal watch. At that point why buy a smartwatch
It really is time Apple gave us better Digital watch face options. Most of them are so dated now and don’t give us a large digital time display as well as complications. They’re either huge time units with little to no other info or tiny time units with loads of other info
THEY NEED TO MAKE IT BIGGER
i agree with everything you said in this video and i got one as well and i’m loving it. everything you said in here perfectly lined up with everything i would say about it so well done!
Just got one yesterday!! It is really nice coming from a series 6. I got the orange band you got I don’t like it I’m using my old product red band and it very comfortable. Very nice watch and I really love it. It’s not heavy at all and is really nicer than I thought it would be. 😅😊🎉
what size strap (Alpine Loop) do you use in this video?
and your wrist size? please answer it will be helpful to me
The Ultra is amazing from its build quality to its capabilities!
The Ultra is hands down my favorite product of 2022. It surprised the hell outta me lol I can’t imagine going back to the standard watch!
Maybe you should check the current state of WifI on Mt Everest! There is indeed WiFi service at the TOP!
I have had one for about 1 month. It’s been better than expected!
Thanks for the video Brandon. I guess its possible to charge the Ultra with a power bank like one with quick charge when out and about?
I’ve just got one. Coming from an S4. It’s a very good looking watch and has a real presence. The battery life is fantastic. I love leaving the phone in at home/in the car and taken my my AirPods and also have home down time and respite from the usual social media notifications. Def recommend.

Yesterday, I fell onto a concrete corner, my Apple Watch ultra slammed into it and guess what? The concrete corner chipped and the watch was fine 💀
Getting my Apple Watch ultra tomorrow I’m going to be a first time user . Excited for the whole new experience ⌚️
I absolutely love my apple watch ultra. The 49mm display is just amazing.
Do you think that the apple watch series 8 is a good watch for an everyday user?
Definitely. Although I do think the SE is the best value
@@BrandonButch SE vs Apple Watch 7?
My favorite 2022 product as well.
Hey Brandon nice video. I have a question. Which is better. Apple Watch SE 2 or Series 8!
I just picked one up yesterday and I love it so much. But I’m sure that will wear off soon because it’s kinda just like my 7 was. And $870 after tax is a lot of money for a watch. And it looks like an expensive Watch. I love it.
In Europe it goes up to 1040$ with taxes
I got mine asap & I love it I have all three bands alpine orange was my first love it but the trail loop makes me forget I have it on at times 10/10 recommended
I think the Apple Watch Ultra is perfect for those who do the most extreme things. I currently still have the Series 3 but I plan on getting the Series 8 product red to match it with my iPhone 14 product red.
that'll be a nice combo!

I have the same color, yes it gets dirty fast but it's also easy to clean by using a toothbrush and a detergent.
Unnecessarily necessary 😂 perfect description
I love the orange band and the ocean/wave style. Got one form online, and it looks awesome❤
I can get the full 60hrs on low battery power mode. its great!
I just purchased the ultra 2 waiting for it to be delivered.

Thanks for the comprehensive (normal user) review. I’m not a trail blazer or deep sea diver. So this video’s great! Looking to pick one up soon.
Had a watch since 0 version and the Ultra since day one release in Australia.
Best Apple product so far and I would say the next version won’t be as strong as this is perfect.

How do you clean the orange Alpine Loop. Just curious as I got the Ultra a few days ago, and got the orange Alpine Loop.
Very simple for the price

Just too big, maybe to get the massive battery and acceptable batt life?
The main flaw of this watch is that it isn’t a must have device, like I need my iPhone, I don’t need my watch. It’s nice to have.
Apple needs to increase the amount of vital sensors, and that will go a long way to making this thing a must have.
It’s Awesome love it can’t wait too see what they do with future versions!!!
First apple watch product I owned is this model. So far I love this watch.
Can’t wait for mine. I should get it in 2 days. I owned a series 6 and it was damaged in less than 5 months. 😩.
Does a cellular device strapped to your arm kill your arm?
I’m getting my Apple Watch ultra in a few weeks im so excited

I just got one last week and passed on my series 7. Don’t regret it at all
That garmin watch you showed, I looked it up and it said average life 18 hours. Where are you getting this magical 20 day idea from?

I have been having issues with 16.3 and trouble with phone calls and text messages coming through.
I’m glad you like it but I went with the Series 8 45mm Cellular version. The Ultra is too bulky and looks ridiculous on me. If others like that look, that’s wonderful! Just not for me.
The same here Hopefully they will better the size and even bring a black color one too. I Hope it will happen in the second gen.
Same here too.

Go for it. I upgraded from the 6 too. I have the ultra watch 2. Long battery life. 2+ days so far for me.
I’ve got one. Great watch for everyday use as well as fitness
i really like the Apple Watch Ultra but I can’t justify buying it. it’s overkill for me. it would be interesting if in the next AWU they add a solar power function like the Garmin watch, so the battery life is even longer
I’m sure they will but then it’s gonna cost 1000$
I love it and the three I bought for my buddies this past Christmas my scuba diving buddies . We used to use G-Shock and before that Citizen .
Great watch I can never go back to the regular series Apple Watches
Did you really say "makes typing a breeze" when you mentioned the large screen :)
i love my first apple watch series 7 and firstly my plan was to upgrade to the ultra but decided to wait until maybe the second gen ultra. i have the series 7 with titanium and celluar, and for the temp sensor or the better gps i think i dont need it really, i just hope that next gen will be more feature rich. and the battery life is now amazing.
I agree, I keep wanting to return my 7 45mm and get the ultra but first if it was $650 i would get it then i just think the 2nd gen of the ultra is worth waiting for? Decisions decisions…
When will they add a flashlight to the watch? I think that would be such a great feature.
They already have a flashlight on it
@@chrisragone8785 is it just the screen white? I’m talking like a flash like the phone. They have one like that?
I’ve been waiting for a durable Iwatch and it’s here and I love it 😊 great review from the uk 🇬🇧
The technology is incredible however I have yet to add one to my collection. This video may have changed that.
I have to wash my white alpine loop every 3 days lol
Had mine back at the beginning of November.. Took some time to get used to it & still am trying BUT it is pretty damn good....
When people calls Apple Watches good with like 2 days battery life and you have a fenix or epix and get 2-3 weeks battery life lol…

Cool it exists, but totally not worth it
By the way, if you look for similar priced Garmin watches - they are way better (battery, gps signal strength, real sapphire glass etc) and has most of the functions you need, like payments (no music tho)
No cellular here in Ireland and I can get up to 60 hrs sometimes longer even without low power mode if I just use the GPS and workout app for an hour a day. Battery obviously doesn’t last as long if I use the watch to track a 5 or 6 hour cycle though.
any word yet on the next gen of the Ultra? What will apple come out with next september
I’m getting the blue and Grey small to medium Trail loop with my Apple Watch ultra
greeat review!! curious what your wrist size is?
Great review, this is the best apple products that I have purchased in several years! I have owned every Apple Watch before this one including the eight and almost every iPhone pro. Hands-down. This has been the most impressive to me.
Got mine yesterday
Mine glitched today on a 25 mile run whilst using workout app, watch face shifted right and watch froze then restarted, anyone else experienced this?
Good video! I get 3 days every single time and that’s with an hour workout as well in normal mode.
this watch is rated 4.7 out 5 that’s amazing
i remember buyng a screen protector for my first apple watch some years ago now i have the most expensive AW ever and it's over i dont bother anymore even for my iphone ...
What is your wrist size?
So where do I buy the case for my watch
7:37 LMAO!!!
