Harry Turtledove wrote a series of books that took a Roman legion and moved them to fight in a new world, basically the opposite of this one. This was really cool, and its a shame we don't get stuff this creative and well researched to watch as series or movies anymore.
Anorher interesting Turtledove series is about American Civil War, which the South won. In the aftermath, a Hitler-like American Sargent rises to power.

These "From the Halls of Montezuma" stories are most definitely the best I've ever heard. Absolutely wonderful fiction, I wish someone would make a FPS/RPG game like this where you travel to different eras and get to bring modern day weapons and equipment to fight major historical wars. There was a old original Xbox game kinda like this, I don't remember the name of it but you could fight the American revolutionary war, American Civil War, WW1, and WW2 while using modern weapons. I recall having a shit ton of fun fighting at Gettysburg using a M4 against dudes with muskets.
This whole scenario reminds me of Rorke's Drift. How a band of soliders with more technological advancements goes against a much larger army that uses outdated weapons and tactics. Despite all odds it appears to be more of a fight than expected.
Awesome first series. It had everything to keep your imagination experiencing fear, pride, laughs, and the characters fit perfectly! This is great but am hoping to see another sequel to the original set . Best series ever done from the original to now. Was really looking for more from the original characters. But happy to hear this.
