- I finally get around to the Caius B after buying it over 6 months ago LOL...
unfortunately for the Caius, there is alot of competition in the sub $100 baitcaster category... does it have what it takes to be a Shimano?

I have one of these and to be honest I find myself reaching for it more than my higher end Shimano’s. Once the brakes are set it seems to never need adjustment. For the price I wasn’t expecting a lot but it’s one of my favorite reels. The low bearing count is ideal. I own a reel repair shop and I can tell you that a high bearing count can be a bad thing when it comes to rust and corrosion. I can’t tell you how many handle knob bearings I’ve had to destroy just to get them off the handle shaft due to rust. IMO reels that are marketed with a high bearing count are just that. Marketing.

I purchased two of these in a reel rod combo from Walmart for the cost of the reel. My motivation was from your video of the base one casting results. I thought why not grab two reel and pole combos for under 100 ea. I'm happy with casting and ergonomics. I've landed a couple of 2-3 lb bass last year and the reels are good after 4 months of summer fall fishing every 3-5 days. Can't wait to see the casting comparisons against its more expensive siblings as well as against the baseone to see if the breaking along with the casting is similar. Thanks again for all the tips on Japan shopping from the U.S. I will soon make a purchase if the value of the dollar continues to grabb great bargains. And agin thanks for all the work you put into helping us make a decision with our gear I have 3 children who are in love with fishing and I'll be handing off these rod and reels to them and your advice helps me get them fishing a bait caster with less backlash and at a value that is affordable. I would have probably bought them a slx DC if I hadn't seen your video and that would have limited me to getting them all baitcaster till they where older.
This Shimano looks really comfortable to hold and they are around 45-50 bucks on eBay now. Solid review my friend and I’ve never been able to own a Shimano Reel and this Caius looks like a great start.
Had mine for over a year and fish it pretty often. It still feels great, just like all shimano reels
I been using the caius more than 2 year still can handle big fish the key is make sure u service u can use longer than u expected

Nice! Can’t wait to get one or another shimano. I’m pretty experienced with them I just bought a ugly stik carbon that came with the black max after no matter how I adjusted it it would still backlash. It’s sitting on the bottom of the lake now where it belongs. There’s a reason why I tend to go with either shimano or quantum when it comes to baitcasters.

What Quantums do you have?
It looks a lot like the discontinued Caenan 150, which was a solid reel for its price in its day (it had only 4 brakes vs. the 6 in this model). (They also had a cheaper Caius 150 (all black reel) at the time which I thought was an inferior reel given its price tag and construction compared to the Caenan 150.The SLX line was an upgrade (along with the price) and replaced those reels. Good to see they have a quality budget reel (sub $100) in their line up again.
After 8years,Caenan is still one of my favourite reel. My first baitcaster was AG SMax3 and the 2nd was Caenan- no contest. Can't go wrong with shimano.

To someone who can't afford the Premium Shimanos... this is the one that they will buy, it's for the name... and to others, who already have the Premium Shimanos... this is the chuckable Shimano... the spare for the quickie spot of fishing
I would think the spool on the Caius is heavier because of the Svs brake system attached to it.
last year i got an older Shimano Caenan & gotta be honest - i think i like it better than my SLX!
What else came from Malaysia...curudo family dc,k,mgl...small, lightweight and strong....still no surprise..? Slx family too have the same criteria...you can pull out a gator without problem...😂
The Alloy M especially through Ali can be had for $64 with VAT if you pull a coupon. Very nice reel.
I own a Piscifun Phantom along with a Shimano Calista and a few Banax reels. I absolutely LOVE the Phantom. Was 50 dollars incl shipping fee. Best reel i ever owned.
Impressive weight, I saw that the new SLX CT DC is 195 grams. Which is insane to me. Pretty lightweight. I thought I had the skills to use no breaks. 😆 reel lookin like a rats bed. 😆 🤣 half on worked best for me for a 1/4oz jig and 4" paddle tail.
Im taking it out tommorrow and going to test the differences in casting with loose and tight spool tension
How is the Bass Rise 18 different than the Caius? I have a Caius B and it’s an incredible Reel.
H2O Mettle from Academy is an aluminum frame reel under $70 bucks.
I used to recommend the Bass Pro Pro qualifier reels but the anti reverse started failing on one and I lost faith in it.
I have one. Good performance but I’m can’t tell if it’s as smooth as when I got it- it’s not nearly as smooth as my slx dc

Shimanos take forever to tune..you can throw a daiwa straight out the box. Translates into more time fishing

I suspect it can go down to 1/8th based on spool weight
Unrelated to this video, but I stumbled upon your videos the other day while looking for some new fishing gear to upgrade from my older Abu black max baitcasting combo.
I ended up ordering a Shimano SLX MGL and SLX 7’2 Heavy/Fast combo for $175 shipped. Doesn’t seem like a very logical combo but I may get a jdm reel for that rod and get a more finesse style rod for the SLX MGL soon. Would you have any recommendations for those?
Before I ordered the SLX MGL I was looking at the Scorpion DC and Exsense DC SS. DC isn’t necessary in next reel I get if I can get better quality for the same price or just save $50 to skip on it.
If you like the Scorpion DC/Exsense DC frame, look into the Scorpion MGL if you want to save some money. Its a giant killer.
Does this have a plastic worm gear like SLX?

what size of rod would you recommend
I see nobody has commented on rod size so I thought I would talk about the 7ft scimitar I recently paired with this reel and I am very happy with it I fish Steelhead and salmon with it the 7ft is nice but I think I could have settled for a 6'6" and would still get plenty of casting distance but that's just a convenients I like a two piece rod I can fit in the trunk of the car or anywhere else fairly easily
