  • Laura by Erroll Garner.
This transcription is made by Nik Perry and I have permission to create a Synthesia video of his transcription. Make sure to check him out: musescore.com/...
    and make sure to check out his other transcription of Erroll Garner's Dreamy 1964 performance: {TBD}
Also this transcription is based on the Erroll Garner Live in London 1964 performance: • Erroll Garner - Laura ...
    Wikipedia:
Erroll Louis Garner was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his swing playing and ballads. His best-known composition, the ballad "Misty", has become a jazz standard. Scott Yanow of Allmusic calls him "one of the most distinctive of all pianists" and a "brilliant virtuoso." He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6363 Hollywood Blvd. His live album, Concert by the Sea, first released in 1955, sold over a million copies by 1958 and Scott Yanow's opinion is: "this is the album that made such a strong impression that Garner was considered immortal from then on."
Garner was born with his twin brother Ernest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 15, 1921, the youngest of six children in an African-American family. He attended George Westinghouse High School (as did fellow pianists Billy Strayhorn and Ahmad Jamal). Interviews with his family and music teachers (and with other musicians), plus a detailed family tree are given in Erroll Garner: The Most Happy Piano by James M Doran.
Garner began playing piano at the age of three. His elder siblings were taught piano by Miss Bowman. From an early age, Erroll would sit down and play anything she had demonstrated, just like Miss Bowman, his eldest sister Martha said. Garner was self-taught and remained an "ear player" all his life, never learning to read music. At age seven, he began appearing on the radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh with a group called the Candy Kids. By age 11, he was playing on the Allegheny riverboats. In 1937 he joined local saxophonist Leroy Brown.
He played locally in the shadow of his older pianist brother Linton Garner.

"Nobody can hear you read music." - Erroll Garner

Thanks for uploading, I appreciate it. I wanted to mention that the timing in my transcription is not entirely correct (which isn't really a problem since it's jazz), and that the majority of held chords are implied to be shaken (with some being repeated): To perform this piece precisely I recommend that one follows this score for notes, while listening to the original performance (link in desc.) for timing and feeling purposes!

I love this version. I’m an intermediate player and can’t always play every bit, so here and there I improvise something a little easier, but it gives me something to work towards too. I can get comfortable with the rest of the piece and chip away at learning the hard parts

    Hi Exoticpianoman.
I am from Arnaud Lefon's Video of Laura Sheet Music
First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this.
When i watched this video just 5 minutes ago,
my right eye began to tear up.
Im not one to get emotional over any and every beautiful song, i rarely get moved to tears just by a song alone.
I found out about Laura through this version on youtube a few months ago, Mr Garner's brilliance just took me out of this world.
And all i could do, is just watch that same video of his 1964 transcription over and over again, because there was no synthesia out there for this, and i cant read music too.
Today, I finally got what i wanted after so long,
and i was not prepared to get so emotional listening to the same song ive heard probably more than 30 times.
Thanks to you, I am now able to fully appreciate, analyse and finally reproduce this beautiful piece on the piano in the future for my parents to listen.
I have no possible clue as to what amount of trouble you went through to create the synthesia version, but you have my greatest thanks and gratefulness.
To others it could just be another piece on this channel, but to me: its the sole reason why my life is going to become a lot more beautiful and brighter starting 7th November 2020.
I can finally learn this timeless piece.
Thank you. Thank you so very much.
As long as this channel exists, you have my complete support.
    Thank you so much exoticpianoman.

Wow! Thanks for the long post man 😁
It's nice to hear that I made someone happy!
However, it's Nik Perry who transcribed this one and I just have his permission to create a Synthesia out of it (check the pinned comment, it's Nik Perry who's replying)
There is more to come man, it's a shame nobody wanted to invest time to target Stride Piano/Ragtime/Jazz Ballad Synthesias so I'm happy I'm able to!

Mr Perry, if you are reading this, do be very pleased with yourself!

So actually I render the videos at 4k for the sharpness when you zoom in
I render the videos at 120fps so that when you slow down, it's stuttering as least as possible. (UA-cam only supports 60fps as of now but maybe in the future, then my videos switch to 120fps)
      I really thought it through
