    Maybe banana clumps are just getting more mature are able to store more energy?

    • @SimplyBananas1
      @SimplyBananas1  4 роки тому

      I think you could be close here. Big clumps actually do hold more heat. They do this in two ways.
      The p-stems of bananas are full of water which holds heat. Then the old banana stalks and leaves on the ground in the can decay and compost. The chemical and organic activity that happens in compost gives off heat.

Cold hardiness 40 to 30 •f non hardy zone of course is 1-9 I’m in South Carolina go figure they are selling them here though I was getting a deal. Anyway, I wanted to know if they will still grow bananas if there’s a way that I can get them through the cold and still be able to keep these and if they’ll get bigger than 3 feet high and 2 feet wide? I know a guy in North Carolina who places chicken fence around his banana plants and stuffs them with mulch.

      Yep... I have been growing them for close to 30 years on James Island and don't really take special care for them in the . I have definitely noticed higher banana plant survival as the years have passed. So it is definitely warmer(by just a few degrees) where I am year over year. I think what is happening is that due to all of the construction is keeping our area a few degrees than it was in the past, as buildings, houses, parking lots etc can hold heat.
      If w went into the middle of the national forest or 40 miles out in the ocean, I think year round temps would likely be closer to normal.
