Ive been waiting for a filter like this, stereo and modern. Pricy but I am going to save up.
How do the Jomox Moonglow and Rodec / Sherman Restyler compare to this from your opinion? I'm a big fan of the Restyler: you can add saturation; mix dry / wet; use bands seperately;... Only pitty thing is that there is no LFO or MIDI sync on the RS...

Possibly, when it comes to filters, he prefers the Sherman (as do I). But he was really comparing this to other "warmers" that cost more. He mentioned the Analog Heat, but that comparison also implies the OTO Baum, which has the compressor/limiter feature he liked in the ABIII. And both of those devices are twice the price of the ABIII, at least right now in the U.S.

I do not mean to be rude at all, love your work! But it seems on the erica channel he connects the right output of the filter to the control in for feedback effects (not the right output of the source signal = plug that inserts right input on the filter) so maybe the effect is not heard in this demo? It is an awesome festure by the looks of it on the other video I would love to see what you would have found noodling with it. Apologies if i am incorrect here, I really appreciate this video and your experience, I would not have had the same thoughts without watching this 👊

The final part of the review about the saturation side is very interesting - does Erica synths make any other modules using the limiter / saturation part of the Acidbox III?

@@EricaSynths Stimming is essentially comparing the Acidbox III to the Analog Heat and the Oto BAUM. I would love to know whether the limiter effect he noticed was a priority for Erica Synth designers, and whether the saturation Stimmung spoke about is completely analog or involves an added digital stage. Those features are what help to sell the Oto BAUM and the Acidbox is less expensive. In fact, I've got an AB in my cart right now. I came back to the Stimming review to confirm what I'd heard before.

Bitte mehr Reviews von Stimming und generell auch mehr Reviews auf deutsch. Würde mich mega über ein ausgiebiges Eurorack Format auf deutsch freuen, da es in diesem Bereich fast ausschließlich Formate in englischer Sprache gibt und es teilweise ziemlich frustrierend sein kann, wenn man nicht alles auf Anhieb versteht. :)
Wir sind "leider" auch Englisch sprachig, da international ausgerichtet, heisst wenn der Reviewer englisch spricht gibt es keine deutsche Übersetzung. Und die deutschen sind immer englisch untertitelt.

He didn't mention the Vermona Filter lancet as possible contender, although it's mono. It has the same features and from what I can gather is a tad more flexible in routing the EG and LFO. The filters on the Vermona are a bit cleaner, although full with character, and it has a rudimentary EQ boost of the lows and highs, as well as dedicated GAIN and DRIVE functions.
Wasn‘t meant to compare with any existing filter, this were just a few quick examples out of his head.
I understand that, however it sound like a comparison, especially by mentioning the price. Anyways nothing wrong in comparing things.

reason for the one gain control is that you only really need a single gain on either the L or R side to balance the L & R channels
Nah, if it was creative it would be on both channels. It’s a balance
Also.. just because the input sensitivity of L&R are the same (obviously) it doesn’t meant the source levels are.
It's actually meant for boosting guitar level signal.

Sorry I don’t understand German, so in the end you compare this Acidbox with the Analog Heat. In your opinion which is the best box to buy ? Also, u said this acts as a saturator/ limiter. Can I use it with that purpose in a drums bus?

It is is Bitwig. He's just using the tablet as a touchscreen display for a Windows PC. Bitwig has full support for touchscreens.

Telekom Electronic Beats: wait, are you saying that Bypass is actually not true bypass, if it actually alters the signal/harmonics or am I missing something? In the Acid Box III manual it is stated that it is true bypass -- ericasynths.lv/en/shop/standalone-instruments-1/acidbox-iii
Never mind, I called Erica Synths and figured it out. The IN LEVEL knob ignores bypass setting and it's not a bug, but another [hidden] feature :) This is why you can crank it up and increase signal gain and get the pleaseing limiter/saturation effect you are talking about. Cool.

You can‘t compare a Sherman with the Acidbox III. Just think about the price.
I don't know the price of the acidbox - i was just listening to the sound ...
You can find a 2nd hand Rodec / Sherman Restyler Stereo Filter for about 500 / 550 euro from time to time. I really love it, though it has some limitations... Easier to use than a filterbank.

Sorry, not correct. Electronic Beats is a international music program by Deutsche Telekom. And the last Stimming review was in english for the reason Johnny Apostel mentioned.

It's funny how Germans jump to coarse language in English... 'Verdammte viel' would never be translated as 'whole fucking lot' in accepted use. It's the same on ARD or wherever... On serious shows people will say fuck this, fucking that without a second thought but they would never say fickt das or similar - It's quite jarring.

Not made in China, which is a good thing.
People seem to be paying 600 or so for an MF 101 so this seems like good value and a retro mechanical labs filter distortion will cost you 50% more ( which admittedly goes further) or an elektron analogue heat for double the price so it seems reasonable. But if you don't have the need for something like this then any price is probably too much.

I understand not being excited by a dedicated subtractive filter section (though I wonder why you'd bother watching this vid if you felt that way!). But did you notice his demonstration of the saturation potential, which I think is the main reason he gave this device such a good review?
He begins talking about it at 14:24: "Having some kind of limiter on the signal made me think, 'maybe the filter isn't the interesting part at all. Maybe it's really the gain path, meaning the circuit for the audio as a pure -- I mean the VCA itself, essentially.'" Then he shows that the dry peak is at minus one and the the ABIII processed peak is at minus five, again demonstrating the limiting effect, which is similar in that one way to the compressor/limiter/saturation features of the OTO Baum. And I did agree with Stimming that the summed stereo signal sounded better in that one instance coming out of the ABIII. And he even says, "To my sound engineering sensibility, this is, above all, an incredibly good saturator."
So it appears that the Acidbox III is a secret, less expensive alternative to the OTO Baum and the Analog Heat, only with character-intensive filters from a famously aggressive Russian synth, and a far less complex engine than the AH or OB. Especially when you find one on sale at half price during Black Friday week.
