This video is a VOD of my live stream from Saturday. Wanted to share my testing journey with you ahead of the upcoming paper standard store championship. Overall I think I like where the mono red deck ended up regardless of the record. We had quite a few games yesterday where a different draw or sequence would have resulted in a win. The most important thing to me was that the deck largely felt competitive and had a chance to win each matchup
HI! I love your videos and the relaxing way you play magic and explain your moves. However, I noticed that the first match you lost against Gruul aggro with the mono red could have easily been a won after your last attack! You could have used shock hitting the opponent for 2 and then used Frenzy on the heartfire hero shooting the opponent for 2 once again for a total of 4 damage. don't wanna seem cocky, just a consideration. You probably didn't pay attention to these particular moves as you had other plans in mind
Thanks! I’ll have to take a look again to refresh my memory on the match. It’s completely feasible I missed a line - playing and interacting with chat I sometimes get distracted. I think in general after playing a lot that day I was playing too conservative vs the gruul/Rakdos aggro decks. I was thinking I become the more controlling/interactive deck but think I just need to execute my plan in the end and try to race. Part of the testing was just seeing how to approach some of the matchups
Quick Question MTG Joe When you officially get all those mono red aggro cards in the mail. Are you going to make another video going more in-depth into the deck-list? or any changes you decided to make ahead of the Store Champhionship?
So I actually have most of the cards already, just waiting on some sb cards like tectonic hazard. I can do a detailed community posts or deck tech video before the event once I have everything together.
@@MTGJoe That would be awesome, I personally haven't done a Store Championship since Magic Origins. So going into this I decided with Mono Red Aggro & seeing your well thought out deck-list, it was a no brainier to go with your deck-list/SB.
Hard to maintain a sb guide without a fully defined metagame. Mostly think I like having forge main while Golgari and removal decks are very present. In small creature mirrors I like shifting up to being more control focus. I will play around with 3rd lynx in side if greedy manabase and life gain decks continue to be popular
It’s a bit of both. We started with gruul but played and worked on a bunch of mono red. The timestamps show each match and deck I’m using. Played mice as well. Will rename to just red aggro for clarity though
@@MTGJoe No problem at all, and thanks for clearing that up! I really appreciate all the standard content you’ve been putting out. I'm excited to see how you tackle the new domain build in BO3.

My problem with red is the mirrors are just a coin flip and then the “good match ups” are tech out vs it so feels like a coin flip all the way
mirrors come down more to how you approach your role for sideboarding and if you want to be more aggressive or controlling I find.
Love mono red now bro

I'm testing this deck aswell for a team event any insight or guid3s you have.

Just a heads up that the title is "Perfecting MTG Standard Mono Red Aggro" but you're playing Gruul Aggro.
