Starlink RUINED my NEOWISE Astrophotography! But didn't. Astro Stacking Methods

  • A follow up to my previous #Starlink vs #Astrophotography video, but this time, a real-world scenario! Starlink crossed one of my shots of comet #NEOWISE back on July 15. Around the same time a few "ruined" images of NEOWISE came into twitter as again, I mentioned before that given enough people taking photos, someone, somewhere is going to have a bad day!
However, some of these photos were intentionally set up to sensationalize the problem without context and it's caused a few non-astronomy folks to direct attacks at Elon Musk or SpaceX, even as changes are being made to the satellite constellation to minimize the problem.
Stacking Astrophotos can be done using various methods, Like Maximum, Average, or Kappa-Sigma. Each one has its place, but Maximum stacking will undoubtedly make streaks from satellites way worse, so let's not fall for the 'tricks' and talk about how and why each stacking method works.

Someday I'll have a remotely operated observatory in the mountains with a Starlink internet connection :). I think we can have it both ways. Discord: discord.gg/5hjd885

Well everything has pros and cons, and thats how it should be. Atleast Elon Musk cares and is trying to reduce the light of the satellites, people should be more angry at companies that does not give a shit about that. Anyway, what a great picture of the comet!

Gotta be real, I am not a hobbyist and I don’t really know about any of this stuff, I’m here to see cool shit. But your videos are interesting and definitely deliver on the cool shit!!

Thank you for posting. I had the chance to witness a rocket launch in 2018. Incredible experience. I posted a pretty solid clip of the experience to my page.

I have a question about your modded cam when you remove the lp2 filter did you replace it with anything and when you put the sensor back in did you mark the exact position

Mark the exact position and don’t replace it with anything. Check some other comments and online guides too since it’s possible you might have to still adjust the backplane (three screws) depending on your use case. Some lenses may no longer reach focus and I only had that issue with one lens.

Well now you can keep your data and remove the lines. Better then dropped frames. Wonder if there are other ways around this problem? I’m mostly mark one eyeball astronomer. So starlink doesn’t bother me to much. Your such nerd or geek Michael... Maybe I should track those polluting comets and transatlantic cables?...

The worst part Is there’s no real gain lol. The other satellite internet company does the whole world with just three satellites and the speed is the same

If I will choose I will rather pollute space then our ocean full of transoceanic cable............ why? because our ocean is our source of food............ the more polluted our ocean will have a major impact in our food............. what about space? space is so large that scientist doesn't know the end of it............ and if those astronomer worry about comet or asteroid being undetected and possibility of hitting earth because of starlink........... I will say to those astronomer to to damn create a lot of satellite to track those comet and asteroid..........

Glen Heinz Pardon me? If you are telling me to go see a doctor, then at least learn how to properly put together a proper grammatical sentence.
