I too bought a Z900RS earlier this year and agree with all the points you mentioned. I've done nearly 3000 miles in 4 months and loving every ride. As Freddie Dobbs said "it's a thug in a suit". Re. snatchy throttle: It's only a problem when picking up the throttle from the overrun, when the ECU cuts fueling completely (a clue is the extremely strong engine braking, which can also kick-in quite suddenly if you're not prepared). The technique I use when re-applying throttle is to give the twistgrip just the slightests sniff of throttle-on, just long enough for the ECU to recognise that you've opened the throttle, then apply throttle as normal since the ECU has already resumed fueling the engine. If you just crack the throttle open from fully closed there's a brief period where the ECU hasn't resumed fueling and so your wrist tends to open the throttle further because there's no reaction. Then the ECU resumes fueling, by which time the throttle is already open a fair degree and the ECU 'jumps' to this throttle setting. Bloody annoying, but it is possible to learn your way around it 95% of the time. It's during cornering when it's most aggravating as picking up the throttle too aggressively can push you wide. Eventually you learn the technique (most of the time). It helps a lot if you remove almost all the slack in the trhottle cables, then you can feel the pick-up point more easily. Make sure you leave some slack in the push-pull system though ;) The problem with re-mapping the ECU is it voids your warranty...
I'm 300+ miles into mine now, and you do adapt to the fuelling yeh, you just get better at being gentle on initial throttle pickup, and learn not to close it down so harshly too. Going for a big day out in Wales on it tmrw to get the last few miles on before the break-in service next week. Such a feel good bike, love it already.
There is nothing wrong with the throttle, it's just different to the last bike. My last bike was a GSXS1000 and in every forum people were complaining about the snatchy throttle on that too. Next point for me is the tyre...the get a lot of grief due to road testers trying to be Motogp riders. The tyres are fine for road use and the speeds that most 50 plus year old riders do. Let's be honest 99% of owners will be 50 or over. I changed tyres at 7000K, yes the new rubber was better but the OEM were fine for me. I agree with your comments on the high idle when cold. I commute on mine and hate starting it at 0630 due to the noise from the engine at cold idle.
Hi Jimmy...the snatchy throttle is THE most common complaint about the Z900RS..in fact the guy that I spoke to re the ECU remap said he has done more Z900RS than any other bike in the past 6 years....and the 2nd most common remap? Yep was on the GSXS1000!! But I'm glad you don't find it an issue 👍
Definitely a keeper Willie. I used to run Pirelli Phantoms on my Yamaha 1.1, (XS1100), and they were brilliant. Back in the day, I had an ex works Maico 490, ex works team, 500cc two stroke motor cross bike. It didn't have a proportional throttle, it had an on / off switch. Take up the slack on the accelerator cable and the next thing your boots are bouncing off your knobbly back tyre. Having said that, I did get used to it, so it can be done. Finally; I have a solution for your high revving, neighbour upsetting hooligan machine. For those days when you have to ride to town, there's a company called Royal Enfield and they make a lovely little 350cc classic that is very well behaved from a noise point of view. Its dimensions are modest and if someone had a little unused side alleyway on their property...you wouldn't even know it was there. Have a good one mate.
Everyone complains about the Dunlop K300s that come on the W800 but i have not had any issues with them. They are not as good as the Michelins but they are not bad enough to replace them before they wear out. Keeping the proper tire pressure makes them work OK.
Thanks for the video. Had one in the Candytone Blue. Still regret selling (got an R1250rs instead). Technically your bike is not the "Yellowball" though. That's the SE (yellow and black). I have to say I never found the "snatchy throttle" an issue. Personally, I think it's an Internet fuelled myth. People are half expecting it because they've read "the forums", so they perceive it when they start riding it. It's no more snatchy than my SV650 was, or any other bike I've owned. Hi Fella, I've had my Z900RS since March 22 and picking up on what @peterlivermore2177 said about adjusting the slack in the throttle cables. This is what I did on just the Accelleration Cable within a month of buying it, I now have about 1-2 MM of slack and just by doing that it transformed the bike into something a bit more throttle friendly. It can still have a bit of snatchyness but it's now subdued, A bit of a downside is that on bumpy bends/roundabouts etc if you're on a trailing throttle, A bump can put you on power, nothing to bad but it's a small price to pay for me. If you go this route adjust until your happy.
just found your channel….good points well made….I was after a Z900 RS SE originally, but it appears they’ve literally sold out in the UK …no dealer has a new one, and doesn’t know when they will get them in stock again, in the Yellow Ball….however, after seeing yours, which you can still get, I must say it looks great….I can feel my foot on the slippery slope mate…and I’ve defo got a naughty boy bursting to get out….I’ve subscribed….Cheers mate, Andy
Thanks Andy!👍 appreciate the sub! I bought mine from "wheels" as a pre reg (literally registered last month) and got it for £9695 which I couldn't really turn down ...The bike is honestly incredible mate, the engine is silky smooth and has more than enough power! The green and yellow looks stunning and the retro touches add to it...I also looked for an SE model , found a 2nd hand one which was more expensive than the one I bought, the gold forks put me off though, felt they were out of place for that retro look...aside from the 3 points I made in the video the bike is perfect and is without doubt the most fun I've had on 2 wheels! Good luck with yr search and let me know how you get on. Willie
Gorgeous bike Willie, and you're beaming like a proud papa talking about her :) Z900RS was very high on my want list too for the looks and the inline 4 sound track but at 5'9" was just too tall for me ugh
i am 5'9 as well and have the exact same bike (same yellow and green). It came standard (in Canada) with the lower seat and fits me perfectly. Just ask for the lower seat.
I have a 2024 kawasaki Z900RS it has about 600 miles on it now I'm fine with stock tires they seem good to me and throttle is real smooth on mine love the Kawasaki
Great video thanks Willie, It seems to me the plus point well out way the minus points. It also seems to me that your Z900RS is definitely a keeper. I am so pleased you are enjoying it and it has met your expectations. 👍 PS: I think the movie you mention about is called Mad Max (in my opinion the first film in the series and the best).
Thanks Will! Yes the bike is absolutely mind blowing!! Actually the film I was referring to was called "stone" ! Everyone thought I meant Mad Max though!! And totally agree with you,the 1st MM was definitely the best one! 👍
Yep, you’re quite right with your observations about the RS. When I’m asked about the snatchy throttle (which is worse than your T120 & I should know 😉), my response is “You can’t ride it how you might want to. It has to be ridden to it’s characteristics, then there’s no issues”. I’ve just returned from touring Switzerland/Austria. 2500 miles in 2 weeks, Alpine Passes, Grossglockner, Bikers rest etc and the snatchy throttle caused me no problems. In fact the engine braking was an advantage when descending from the high passes. Tyres, I changed mine at 3000 miles. Read loads of reviews, so many different recommendations I was confused. I reckon I could have saved all that angst by selecting any premium tyre. Road 5s fitted for the trip (good deal, cheaper than 6s) and they were fine. Better/worse than other brands? Who knows? Enjoy and may your licence stay points free. Did you know even the font on the dial is the same as the original? Don’t know where I read that.
Great comments Dave! I'm definitely not concerned about the throttle, I'm quite enjoying adapting to the bike! That sounds like an amazing tour mate 👌 love that about the font on the dials! Like Little things like that !!
I still love the look with the nose cone. Speaking to your first point. I've had several bikes with snatchy throttles, but, you DO definitely get used to it to the point you won't even notice. Speaking to your second point, my aprilia was exactly the same it was proper loud and high reviving when cold, what I used to do, and it's not too much of an issue push it down the road until you're away from the houses and then start it up most people won't even notice. Thirdly looking at your tyres they do t seem to have enough tread to be all weather tyres for us normal riders. Still looks awesome love the bike enjoy it you deserve the fun 😁
@@2wheeledwillie395 A 2002 aprilia RSV mille. Lovely bike, but, just turned me into a bit of a hooligan on the A13. But, loved every second of it. I'll see if I can find a couple of pics. One of my favourite sports bikes ever
@@2wheeledwillie395 😂 If you do turn it down...dont turn down too much. Those that have done this, end up with a bike stalling at junctions lol Glad your enjoying your zedo mate 🤙🍻
Hiya Willie 👋. The fast idle thing on cold start up seems to be a Kawasaki thing. My ZZR1400 does the same. It's a bugger sometimes when you just want to get going 🙄. Regards, Mo 😊 👍
@2wheeledwillie395 😂 I have to stay very disciplined all the time cos the temptation is ALWAYS there! That's why l'm considering bikes like the V7 or Shotgun etc 🤔. It's a bugger getting old 🫣
It does not rev high at a cold start. Look at the rev counter . It sounds like it's revving its nuts off, but it isn't. The bike is made to warm up as quickly as possible so as to meet the emission regs as soon as you get going. The Airbox resonator has been fitted to give you "the sound of power" without having a noisy exhaust. The throttle is ON or OFF and is a feature of fuel injection. It really only affects the bike during slow speed running. You just have to use the clutch to feed in the power with a bit more care. In truth most of the people who moan about the bike are just not sufficiently skilled to ride it. I trades my T120 to buy an RS and straight away the bike makes the T120 look poor. Except the saddle as the RS saddle had a hard centre that gave a pain in the tail bone after 200 miles or so.
Thanks for the comments buddy...I don't think the people that moan are not sufficiently skilled to ride the bike though! The issues are definitely real and Lambchops (who is an accomplished rider) said that the snatchy throttle put him off actually buying the Z900RS
Kawasaki have always had a fast cold idle even back to the 70's/80's when you used a choke,so wouldn't worry about that. When you get the first service mention about your running issues and ask if they have any ECU updates,as sometimes they cure it. Also sometimes if they take up any slack in the throttle this also can help. I wouldn't bother with any remapping whilst it is in warranty,as if something happens, they will know when they plug it in that someone has been messing, voiding your warranty. Wonder when we'll be getting the "I sold my Z900 as I was going too fast"video 😂😂
I looked at one a couple of years ago but wanted an SE but in the green like yours … sadly that’s not an option so I bought a BMW RS instead , great bike but I still prefer the z900 looks … happy new bike
All but 3900 on my interceptor so far received it in May I would have 40000 on my triumph without her.🎉 I really love that bike well both but riding one up yeah it's the more genuine of the two . Two completely different feelings of rides. Going d&a for the stage 2 (plate & airfilter) good luck I'm happy for you Willy......
@2wheeledwillie395@@2wheeledwillie395 sorry mate! You're right! I should have taken a pic and sent you it. The modern one was the orange colour but the original one was the same as yours. Stunners!
As in the original 1979 film. A local Kawasaki dealer gave the production 14 z1000’s. Classic. You can roam about Suffolk shouting ‘I am the toe cutter!’
I thought very carefully about the Z900 before purchasing my W800 but the higher cost to purchase, higher cost for insurance and increased performance that I may not be able to handle and may never use helped me make up my mind. The Z900s are fantastic and beautiful machines but the mild manners, low end torque, authentic sound and great retro looks of the W800 won me over. I have no regrets as I am sure you don't either. I do prefer twins over multi cylinder bikes.
@@2wheeledwillie395 Thanks for the return comments. I picked my W800 up on my 68th birthday and will turn 70 on Monday. At my age I needed a capable but more relaxed motorcycle. I also have a long term project bike that I hope I can get finished. It's a 1968 Norton Commando. The 820th Commando to come off the assembly line. It's been painted in Grenadier Red but under the side cover it shows the very rare green metallic paint colour. Keep the update videos coming. Cheers Bob
@@2wheeledwillie395 I'm not equipped with the knowledge or the equipment for UA-cam videos. Taym has shown pictures of my two bikes in one of his mutter videos. Thanks for the Happy Birthday.
I’ve noticed the exhaust ‘yellows’ quite a lot at the collector, this would annoy me 😊, yours looks immaculate- is that by cleaning , or are you just scared to use it ? 😅 - Kidding 😅
The movie is probably " Stone " . The original Z1 was a revelation at the time , completely new and unrivalled until the big Suzukis GS s came along . Kawasaki are maintaining the tradition of producing a fantastic looking and performing bike , with crap tyres for that true retro experience. Try not to let your naughty boy pop out whilst riding , unless you want to work for the BBC . 😮 Fast initial running and snatchiness is due to the extreme leanness ( is there such a word ? ) . Maybe someone will bring out a fuel gadget to alleviate the problem . Hope so . The only blight to the bikes good looks is the radiator cap . Gaudy stickers , can't someone make a nice brass cap ? Have fun , ride safe . PS . Thin, sauve Freddie Hamster sends his regards, but he can't visit for a while because his trousers overheated on the Ducati. Also his hair was a mess . But looking forward to having a frothy oat/soy milky coffee in your new non alcoholic nook . PPS . " nook " for nooky 😅 and a " slap n tickle " garden .Do I see a pattern here ? Only in Suffolk . PPPS . You do have a coffee machine ? 😢
Hi Willie. There’s a retro styled bike that has just come onto my radar very recently, which I think ticks a lot of boxes for me. It is the Yamaha XSR 700 X.Tribute. They have been around for a few years now and I wondered if you had ever tried one? I have yet to see one in the flesh, but it sounds like it may be another good choice for us lanky lads. Same well-proven engine as the MT/07, but in a taller package. 👍👍
Mate I had one!! (Not tribute one) I think there's a few videos I did of it...I loved it! LOVE the cp2 engine and it does have a higher seat..sold it to a mate 👍

That snatchy throttle you were talking about, is that on gear changes? If so then try quick shifting, quick pull on and off of the clutch and more or less changing gear quickly at same time but only reducing the throttle a little, this sometimes helps as KTM bikes are much the same, it may help. Ads for the noise in the morning, best just get ready, then jump[ on the bike , start and go without sitting for a bit, My Goldwing does the exact same but to be honest, i never see the Neighbours giving me courtesy when starting their vehicles at 5am, so I never really worry too much. Good bike though and don't het worried about neg reviews, each individual with have individual thoughts, likes and dislikes on the bike, but as long as you are happy that's all that matters. Now the movie Mad Max, it was filmed in 1978 and released in 1979, I will post a link to a clip on the movie showing all the bikes, this was filmed at a small town called Clunes which is not that far from me,, Go in about 55 seconds and you will see the bikes, loads of Kawasaki's .. Enjoy ua-cam.com/video/Fh_zPIx104Y/v-deo.html
Word of advice, don’t go to work at 4am not good for you. Snatchy throttle what snatchy throttle! Not riding in the rain, you won’t be riding much judging by this summer. Enjoy and ride safe.
Buy yourself a throttle tamer, that will fix it, I had one on my bike, the one I had was made in Germany it was alloy, make sure you have free play on the throttle, that made a difference on cold start up for me, hope this helps.
The Kawasaki is a stunner! 👍👍. Fast forward 6 months and I think that you have just listed your reasons why you sold the bike 🤣🤣. Enjoy the naughty boy bike meanwhile.
Lol!!😂 Thanks GBD 👍 Tbh my priorities have changed and money needs to be spent on the house which means spending money changing bikes needs to stop for at least a year!!
I found the snatchiness on the T120 a real pain tbh but thinking about it most of my riding was slow, stop and start town riding so I really noticed it..I bought the booster plug for it and it made a massive difference

Can't beat a bit of 70s style snatch 😎
Isn't that a growler!
It a brilliant bike, for sure!
Thanks buddy 👍
I’ve noticed the exhaust ‘yellows’ quite a bit at the collector, yours looks immaculate- is that down to cleaning - or lack of use? 😊
Haha!! I've only had the bike a week! Interesting to hear that though 🤔 cheers buddy 👍
Mate you never told me you had an Aprilla?! What did u have?

A 2002 aprilia RSV mille. Lovely bike, but, just turned me into a bit of a hooligan on the A13. But, loved every second of it. I'll see if I can find a couple of pics. One of my favourite sports bikes ever
Loved the RSV Mille mate....send me a pic if you find one👍 willjtolson@gmail.com
Just enjoying your enthusiasm about the Kow. Cheers!
Thanks Guy! 👍
Cold idle can be manually adjusted down a tad, with a couple of spanners.
Ah that's where the problems start....I have ONE spanner!!!😂
@@2wheeledwillie395 😂
If you do turn it down...dont turn down too much.
Those that have done this, end up with a bike stalling at junctions lol
Glad your enjoying your zedo mate 🤙🍻
@@Flyingscotsman3thanks buddy, I'll definitely look into that 👍
Stock tires are usually a bit rubbish. Just put a set of Bridgestone BT46 on my little Hunter. Huge improvement.
Cheers Skotty! Yes tbh I can't wait to change them!
Hiya Willie 👋. The fast idle thing on cold start up seems to be a Kawasaki thing. My ZZR1400 does the same. It's a bugger sometimes when you just want to get going 🙄. Regards, Mo 😊 👍
Hey Mo, yr right it's a bugger if I just want to get gone...ZZR1400!?! I bet you can get VERY naughty on that!!!😂
@2wheeledwillie395 😂 I have to stay very disciplined all the time cos the temptation is ALWAYS there! That's why l'm considering bikes like the V7 or Shotgun etc 🤔. It's a bugger getting old 🫣
@@momarsden3053haha! Amen to that Mo! 🙏
You've certainly got the new bike warm fuzzy feeling, long may it last. Nice one 👍
Lol! I definitely do! Thanks Dave 👌
Great advice thanks Bally! 👍
I looked at one a couple of years ago but wanted an SE but in the green like yours … sadly that’s not an option so I bought a BMW RS instead , great bike but I still prefer the z900 looks … happy new bike
Thanks Steve! 👍 Actually the BMW RS is my favourite BMW..A mate had one and he loved it 👌
All but 3900 on my interceptor so far received it in May I would have 40000 on my triumph without her.🎉 I really love that bike well both but riding one up yeah it's the more genuine of the two . As in the original 1979 film. A local Kawasaki dealer gave the production 14 z1000’s. Classic. You can roam about Suffolk shouting ‘I am the toe cutter!’
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.... Actually the film was called "Stone" but everyone thought I was talking about MM!
Mad max mate.
Stone mate!😂
I thought very carefully about the Z900 before purchasing my W800 but the higher cost to purchase, higher cost for insurance and increased performance that I may not be able to handle and may never use helped me make up my mind. The Z900s are fantastic and beautiful machines but the mild manners, low end torque, authentic sound and great retro looks of the W800 won me over. I have no regrets as I am sure you don't either. I do prefer twins over multi cylinder bikes.
Thanks Bob, I absolutely love the W800! Almost bought one a couple of times and still might!

Fast initial running and snatchiness is due to the extreme leanness ( is there such a word ?

Only in Suffolk .
PPPS . You do have a coffee machine ?

Enjoy
