I know a lot of people get their furniture from IKEA and Amazon. I would check online for the best prices (For instance I got a super cheap bed frame online at Walmart for my unfurnished home). Another great resource would be craigslist or UVA's free and for sale page on Facebook. A lot of students move from place to place and want to get rid of furniture so they'll either give it to you for free or you can find great things super cheap!
It depends what year you are transferring as, as a first year you can be put in any of the dorms but if you are a second year or older you will most likely be put in apartment style campus housing or a residential college

I spent 4 days at UVA for dance team camp in the new dorms and they are so nice!! and the bathrooms are so great!! Highly recommend the school as well

You can choose preference for a double, single, or 4/6 person option, choose double. But that doesn't increase your chances between new and old dorms

I just washed them in the bathrooms, but they also have a communal kitchen on the first floor
