Keri! I love it. What a wonderful setup. It is clean & open! I love how you maximized all of the space so it could remain functional. And their sleeping spaces remains uninterrupted. When I was in college kids would sit anywhere, but NEVER on my bed. Oh how I wished my bed was on the roof. I also love her curtains and valance. Super creative! So glad her roommate has a similar style. Funny story for ya. Our oldest decided he wanted to decorate his own room this year. He now considers himself to be a minimalist as a sophomore. We packed the car leaving only one or 2 things behind. His room looks great. Guess he's growing up or either he has a girlfriend who has introduced this idea of minimalism. AMATEUR DECORATING LIKE A PRO Thanks! My daughter and her roommate are really enjoying their new space. They are putting the final touches on the decorating/accessories that they want to incorporate into their space. Me, grandma and dad were there just to help with the big stuff :) Too funny about your son...sounds like he may have found himself a young lady friend...lol. I am getting a little better, but I still miss her soooo much. I think I am going to park her car in my mother's garage because I get sad every time I pull into the driveway and see it.

Mina x Awww thanks! We could never just go in and take-over. Even though she found out who her roommate was 2 days before move in, she contacted her and discussed decorating plans. She found out that her roommate would be moving in towards the end of the week, several days after my daughter had arrived, so she really appreciated us adding a few additional touches....like covering her chair also. I don't think anybody would have wanted to sit on those dirty chairs...lol.

My dorm isnt big like this one seems to be. You're amazing for getting things not even for just your daughter but for a girl you didnt even know! Cofffee table, etc. Thats amazing
This room is so cute! I wish I'd thought of the desk chair thing & the window valance. Great ways to make a generic dorm room look cute & make a new student feel more at home& comfortable. I don't have any kids yet but I'll definitely try to keep these ideas in mind when I do and they go to college

They must have the prettiest dorm room on campus! I love seeing how you guys took the roommate's colors into mind when creating the shared space. Generally dorm rooms feel like prison cell's but this looks just as inviting and cozy as it could be! Also to have a futon and all that extra seating and storage they are going to be very popular for sure! Makes me think fond memories of my college apartments and all of the little DIY's my roommate and I did. Our apartment actually became the model unit on campus because of our decorating. Glad to hear she is settling in. You have to get in on SnapChat these days to keep up with the kids, lol.

Your daughter's room is amazing! It feels so much more like an apartment than a dorm room. I like how both girls' items coordinate so well with each other and that they are putting their spaces together to really how more room. Not all roommates are willing to do that. I just don't understand why they don't make dorm furniture with vinyl coverings so that it can be wiped down. I have been trying to rehydrate by drinking all this water...but soon as it goes down my throat....it comes out of my eyes....I haven't stopped crying yet....lol.

This was so helpful I have the same bedding. my theme is beach using seafoam/Mint green coral pink with secondary colors black and gold can you give me some tips on how to pull these together?
You all did a nice job on the room decor. The only thing I would have done different is the sink curtain. Instead of fabric I probably would have made it using a shower curtain or some type of material like that. I also would have taken the horizontal measurement and double it (so that the skirt would be fuller). Using the shower curtain so if water splashes from the sink/spills you know the shower curtain could handle it and it would be easier to wipe down.
ansbach74 Thanks! With limited time, we had to make it happen with the resources we had :) The sink skirt is actually made with outdoor fabric, so it wipes down very easily as if it was made of vinyl like a shower curtain. I opted not to make the skirt fuller because it would have been harder to wipe down, so we went for a more tailored look. The one thing I wish I would have done, was to make an open pleat in the front so that they could get to the garbage can and the other storage items more easily. Also for those really messy spills they can remove it as it is attached with velcro and throw it in the wash machine. Thanks for watching.
I loved this! It was so sweet of you to make sure that the roommate had her colors represented as well, so there isn't like an obvious divide! (Sometimes people have two completely different colors and it looks awful!) A question: Does the bed have railings, to prevent someone from falling off the bed? I don't know about your daughter, but I would be terrified to fall off the bed while sleeping! Thanks for the video! :) The room looks amazing!

They must have the prettiest dorm room on campus! I love seeing how you guys took the roommate's colors into mind when creating the shared space. Generally dorm rooms feel like prison cell's but this looks just as inviting and cozy as it could be! Also to have a futon and all that extra seating and storage they are going to be very popular for sure! Makes me think fond memories of my college apartments and all of the little DIY's my roommate and I did. Our apartment actually became the model unit on campus because of our decorating. Glad to hear she is settling in. You have to get in on SnapChat these days to keep up with the kids, lol.
PinkProzac16 Awwww, thanks. What a kind thing to say. One of my daughter's friends also goes to the same university has been crashing in my daughter's room on the futon for the past few nights. I think it is safe to say they will have plenty of visitors...lol. I can't wait to see the final little touches that her and her roommate add to the space :) You are right about the Snap Chat....I need to get with the program....that is how my younger daughter keeps tabs on her older sister. Your daughter's room is amazing! It feels so much more like an apartment than a dorm room. I like how both girls' items coordinate so well with each other and that they are putting their spaces together to really how more room. Not all roommates are willing to do that. I hope they both have a fabulous year!

You are the coolest mom! I love what you did with that grungy chair and the room looks so nice. My dorm room looked like a prison...however, this was before UA-cam and decorating television shows. :) Your daughter did a nice job on those pillows!
silverteacakes Awww, thanks! That chair was so nasty that we put garbage bags on it before we would sit down on while my mom made the slipcovers....lol. I don't think the camera picked up how filthy it was. I don't understand why they don't cover the chairs in vinyl....it would be so much easier to clean. My daughter is sooooo proud of her pillows :)

sl may Thanks!! I LOVE my mother...she is the best! The camera did not capture how bad those chairs were. I just don't understand why they don't make dorm furniture with vinyl coverings so that it can be wiped down. I have been trying to rehydrate by drinking all this water...but soon as it goes down my throat....it comes out of my eyes....I haven't stopped crying yet....lol.
You guys have done a great job on decorating her dorm. I will be dropping my daughter off at college this Saturday so I will be doing the same thing myself lol. Thanks for sharing and I wish your daughter much success in college.

You all did a nice job on the room decor. The only thing I would have done different is the sink curtain. Instead of fabric I probably would have made it using a shower curtain or some type of material like that. I also would have taken the horizontal measurement and double it (so that the skirt would be fuller). Using the shower curtain so if water splashes from the sink/spills you know the shower curtain could handle it and it would be easier to wipe down.

With limited time, we had to make it happen with the resources we had :) The sink skirt is actually made with outdoor fabric, so it wipes down very easily as if it was made of vinyl like a shower curtain. I opted not to make the skirt fuller because it would have been harder to wipe down, so we went for a more tailored look. The one thing I wish I would have done, was to make an open pleat in the front so that they could get to the garbage can and the other storage items more easily. Also for those really messy spills they can remove it as it is attached with velcro and throw it in the wash machine. Thanks for watching.

I loved this! It was so sweet of you to make sure that the roommate had her colors represented as well, so there isn't like an obvious divide! (Sometimes people have two completely different colors and it looks awful!)
A question: Does the bed have railings, to prevent someone from falling off the bed? I don't know about your daughter, but I would be terrified to fall off the bed while sleeping!

Yes we definitely had to consider the roommate....didn't want to seem like we were taking over the room before she arrived :) The two of them are getting along quite well and she so appreciated the little touches we added to welcome her. Yes, the beds have railings. I removed my daughter's for filming, but we put them back up after I finished taping. I would be terrified of falling too :)
