You should always try to weigh in the same amount of sample, typically 3 to 5 grams…. Like this. But, it’s a good tip to use the same amount as far as possible each time. Important is to spread your sample evenly around the pan so that you end up with a thin and even layer. This ensures uniform sample drying. And, it may be necessary to crush or grind up the sample before you start to measure with it, as I have done here with these potato crisps.
For measuring liquids or pasty substances we recommend to use these glass-fibre filter papers. A filter paper ensures fast and homogenous spreading of the sample which therefore reduces measurement time by up to 50%, and it can increase the repeatability of your measurement.
Finally, after the working day and intensive use of the instrument, we all know that the last job is to clean up after you have finished and get the instrument ready for tomorrow.
First switch off the instrument, and be sure to remove the power supply. Now, remove the draft shield, and carefully clean the instrument surface, making sure that no substance falls into the weighing chamber.
