I like that part about how Alma was quick to obey. He 'returned speedily to the land of Ammonihah,' despite facing significant trials. Some of his trials included: 1. He was rejected (Alma 8:13).He was reviled (Alma 8:13). 2. He was cast out of the city (Alma 8:13). 3. He was physically abused (Alma 8:13). 4. He was spit upon (Alma 8:13). 5. He felt weary (Alma 8:14). 6. He felt discouraged (Alma 8:14). 7. He was hungry because he fasted for many days. (Alma 8:19, 26) In our lives, we may face rejection, discouragement, and other trials, but like Alma, we can choose to respond with faith and immediate obedience. Another example of being quick to be obedient can be found in Matthew 4:19-20, where Peter and Andrew immediately follow Jesus when He calls them to be His disciples: 'And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.' To me, this shows the importance of prompt and decisive obedience to the Lord's commands. The longer one waits to be obedient, the easier it becomes to question whether one should obey, giving time for the adversary to work on them and sow doubt.
Thank you Bro G (and Bro H and guests). I have always found it difficult to relate the scriptures to my life. You show me (us) how with such great examples, always with humility. You have changed my enjoyment and understanding of the scriptures. I soak up your lessons like a sponge.
But Tyler! If I plant weeds, they are SO MUCH less work! Have you ever taken care of a garden of weeds? 😂 However, then all I have to eat is weeds... 😜
I know you were joking but there is a great lesson here! I’ve been taking care of a garden for the past couple of years and your comment highlighted something I have noticed in my attempts to grow certain crops. First I have to purposely plant the crops I want serving i have to constantly take care of them through watering and fertilizing if I want to later enjoy the fruits. But with weeds they pop up in my garden no matter what I do, they always seem to find a way into my garden. If I’m not diligent in removing them they’ll start taking nutrients from the plants I’ve grown and take over my garden. Living the gospel is hard, you have to purposefully live it by studying the scriptures serving others attending church meeting and so on and so forth. But no matter what sin pops up in our lives and if we don’t take action and repent those sins can consume our lives and choke out the testimonies we have built up.

@@Dirkhulk Perhaps my tongue in cheek comment was alluding to the exact metaphor you brought to the forefront 😉
