    You really need suspension on that Kitfox! Absorbing that kinetic energy will shorten your landings.

  • @portnuefflyer
    @portnuefflyer 4 місяці тому +3

    My Prince prop is pitched to be a cruiser, though it's pretty good for STOL, low RPM cruise is where it really delivers. It also gives me longer range/greater duration /better fuel economy than a prop pitched for STOL. The sound thing is a plus, but that's just me. My 7 is probably 100 pounds heavier than Joel's, and Jonas's Kitfox is even lighter! Jonas didn't mention I was the only one not to DQ the landing by landing short, so I will!

  • @TenorDad
    @TenorDad 4 місяці тому +4

    Jonas, how are your steep approaches? Have you tried "hanging on the prop" a bit more than usual, riding the edge of a stall, keeping wings level with rudder (aka "falling leaf"). It will significantly reduce your forward momentum and your tires will absorb the ground smack (just like a carrier landing). Aim for the 3-wire!
    When I flew a ton of air taxi missions my return trips were usually empty. I would practice STOL in a C206 (not a light airframe); falling leaf to the threshold, then goose the power just enough to float the plane to the base of the numbers... full stop before the paint ran out.

    • @JonasMarcinko
      @JonasMarcinko  4 місяці тому +2

      @@TenorDad I’ve tried it but it seems kinda hard to do it for whatever reason. The power to hang it on the prop seems to make it climb. I may not have enough elevator.

    I'm a very low hour PPL holder in the UK, no taildragger experience but i'm an engineer.. Is there a reason no one has developed (other than a nosewheel) some kind of emergency flip out tube or similar that could save the prop if you do go nose over on landing? Apart from being laughed at but maybe for practice use..? I know i could do it but just fielding the question..

    • @irisaviation852
      @irisaviation852 4 місяці тому

      Yes they have, some years ago they developed a system to drastically reduce prop strikes and ground loops. Welcome to the nose wheel….
