Your channel was just recommended to me. I study product design and this channel is a great informative past-time resource. I'm basically binging your channel though at this point haha. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I think the pacing in your videos is perfect and makes them even more enjoyable (or just plays a very big part). Keep going!
I’m calling it the heat sink chair! I’ve always loved pops of orange in products and the AWU stole my heart immediately upon release. Mint video, thanks.
Excellent video, I love the fact that you've named these trends then applied them to some products that you threw together. I kind of love the poor mic quality shows you're on the up and up
Soooo cool. I’m just a measly product manager at Amazon that bows to you cool and trendy design engineers. I can only hope one day to pivot to this fun and creative space! Keep creating folks!!! ❤
@@somegraythings might just need a little sound treatment tbh. I know it costs a couple bucks but u would benefit for sure and u could prob make a video on making or putting them up. 2birds1stone
Another great detailed video on the design trends. Come a long way from a student to a professional industrial designer! Thank you and have a creative year!
Another relevant reference for the orange highlight aesthetic would be Dieter Rams, who if I'm not mistaken was the source of inspiration for Teenage Engineering. Anyways great video! Looking forward to seeing more
Definitely a more modern take on his style. But too far I think not! I love it ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ They're both big aesthetic inspirations for me honestly, even though I'm more of a wood oriented design person myself
In my opinion this is more of a synopsis of 2023 design trends than 2024 trends. 2024 just started and I don't think a video can be made about the trends until the year is over lol.
Stumbled on this. Nice to see the trends, but for me, those chairs need more work. I’m not going to sit on any chair that resembles a sausage (I’m a lady, but even if I wasn’t… Just saying!) I also won’t sit on one that is see-through, and the Lego one looks painful. Maybe it’s just me, but after safety, my top priorities for chairs are physical and psychological comfort.
Always love to see the notification pop up about a new video! Never disappoint! May I ask you what these grey coloured sample plates are? (on the right) They look interesting!
Designers should really stop checkin Apple, Dribble and Pinterest for inspiration...the results are wonderful but at the end all products have same minimalistic language leavin no room for risky and innovative shapes. Boring.
great video, love your vibe talking through these styles lol. what modeling program are you using here? or maybe just a viewer on your ipad for the video
I put the software I use in the description. Sometimes I use Procreate to sketch, but there are some other UA-camrs with better recommendations on iPad sketching.
i have a question...how are these trends decided/identified? is it a collective opinion or is it ur individual observation. I would like to know how to identify trends....
I feel like the color Sand has been heating up for a while, like it’s been trying to be a thing since the more homely/sorf wave of ID fabric on tech home pod/allbirds vibe ect … but that it has really popped off this year, like it’s taken a long time for people to try out all the different sand hues and now we’ve figured out the good ones
the chunky, sausage form language is definetly the biggest trend... anyone have a theory on why this is popular? What are the cultural trends informing this form language?
ID student here, part of me thinks that this shift is less about culture and more about the softwares driving design. For example, Blender has given us the ability to create some very impressive, organic forms. With strong software comes a learning curve, and I feel that young design has leaned towards simplicity due to lack of experience. It's not a bad thing, simplicity in design is important and valuable. However, I hope that in the future we can shift back towards complicated, nuanced products.
One thing I've learnt as a industrial designer: there are children suffering in Africa, nuclear war threatening humanity.... industrial designers: "I think I should design chair" 😂😂😂

"Boolean" is pronounced BOOL-ee-un, and derived from the name of George Boole, English mathematician & philosopher. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boolean The name "Boolean cylinder" then must come from the idea of taking form A and intersecting it with a cylinder B. Every point that is in A AND B defines that new form. You might also enjoy Minkowski sums: imagine taking a cube A and a sphere B, then moving the sphere around but only so far as it has some point in common with the cube. You'd get a rounded edge cube. Now do it with other shapes.
Omg you did come trough. I was thinking, maybe this year we sadly won't get a video in this series. So much appreciated!!! Please don't ever stop.
I had a break between shows on Netflix so I thought I’d make something

man, I feel old. all of this looks like the stuff we had on our design tumblr blogs a decade ago
Tumblr was way ahead of it's time. So was the fashion from Friends
These videos are like christmas morning for design nerds.
hopefully a 2024 trend will be more ID jobs available 😭. great video, i really enjoy seeing you work each of the trends into your chairs!
Yes, the job situation isn’t great in ID :/ thanks for watching
all going to Chinnna. LOL
I’m calling it the heat sink chair! I’ve always loved pops of orange in products and the AWU stole my heart immediately upon release. Mint video, thanks.
You know i actually thought about adding a fan on the back to make it an actual heat sink. But that’s a bit too wild. I also love a good pop
This series is still awesome. Imagine training an ai model on these moodboards to design relevant stuff for a year within these style boundaries.
Try it and let me know how it goes
Sand / Stone and Orange Highlight are definitely big contenders.

I love the video! What software do you use to design?
Idk why you don't have more subs. This was my first time finding your channel and I subbed immediately after watching, so sick.
The room reverb and awkward compression in intro shot made me write this
I did it to be annoying. No jk. That’s just my room 🤷

I feel in those design the desire to show order in a too loud world. through repetitive geometrical patterns and stiff orderly alignments.
