+Peyton Urich That's not necessarily true because I am not smart at all, I don't get things instantly like half of the class and I have to work really hard to learn the material in undergrad. @@idontknow7669 Haha the nice thing about anesthesiology is that you only need to concentrate on the beginning which is putting the patient to sleep, once that is complete it's pretty much easy going from there. Other then charting, putting more meds and etc the duration of the surgery is pretty chill. I see anesthesiologists reading, working on cross-word puzzle, even doing online shopping haha. But the thing is, if anything goes wrong during the surgery, shit really hits the fan and you gotta be on your toes to save the patient's life. Things can go from 0 to 100 real quick in anesthesiology. My advice will differ depending if you are still an undergraduate student or in medical school. Everybody studies/concentrates differently. You just have to find the right method that works for you (eliminate distractions, work for 40 min then take 10 min break then repeat, etc etc). But at the foundation you have to be motivated and passionate about what you're doing.

I'm a junior in high school trying to figure out my future and this was very inspirational. A lot of people view completing 10+ years of education to become a MD as 'wasteful' and I disagree. If you love to learn and are open to new experiences and crave challenges, then it's not a waste. It's the journey to getting something you want that is the best part.
One is currently working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo helping to stem the tide of the evil that is Ebola. Another is living in the city of Port Charles, working as an orthopedic surgeon at General Hospital. One is living at a transition house in Queens New York, currently enrolled in a city run Methadone program, after unfortunately losing their medical license after being ravaged by opiate and cocaine addiction due to the stresses of incurring so much student debt. One lives in Napa California as a general practitioner and operates their own family medical clinic with their Father, who is also a medical doctor. Lastly, one gave up medicine after only 3 years to work as a heavy equipment operator in Auburn California.
I have watched a few med students go thru school at different places and I must say it's not only tons of brain work but it takes lots and lots of physical endurance. The hours are extreme. I am proud of all the usa med grads; they deserve a real pat on the back!
I can remember watching this video before starting Med school... now Im a 4th year med student and found everything in this video to be extremely accurate. This has been an amazing journey!!
I am currently 33 finishing up my third year and I can say that when I started it was a pretty daunting task. It was hard going from working every day to studying all day everyday. However, I had work experince and "life experience" which made me appreciate the oppurtunity I was afforded to even have the capacity to start medical school. If I can do it you can. Plus you will have both medical AND business sense which is a plus in this field nowadays!!!!
Gizelle Blanc I can totally relate to your plight buy each time you feel that way remind yourself of your ultimate goal. Remember nothing in life worth having is accomplished easily. God bless future MD
a lot of decent young americans on this documentary. it's much too hard to become a doctor nowadays compare to a few decades back. much more information to learn, tough competition with students coming to study in western countries from all over the world aand more money being spent on tuition fees etc. the money doctors get paid are not always as good as perhaps they should be, either! all in all only those with true passion and commitment will be able to succeed in making it in this tough industry! this documentary was really well done!
I don't think it's fair to say doctors don't care about the money at all. Let's be honest, you're getting raped by MCAT and steps 1-3, you're graduating with 6 figures of debt usually and have to sacrifice a good portions of your young adulthood to get through school and residency. Family life/relationships take a blow, and let's not forget about liability or those who struggle to match residency. It shouldn't have to be the equivalent of going into the seminary/convent- we aren't saints. There's a reason many doctors try to go down "the road"- match into the best paying specialties (opthamology, radiology, anesthesiology, cosmetic surgery, and derm). As for the national shortage of doctors, medicine does not ignore the economic laws of supply and demand. How do you get more doctors into the field? Start by paying them better and providing more economical benefits. "Doctors should do this just because they want to help people." Guess what? Garbage men also help people. Nurses help people. Lawyers help people. Politicians help people. Teachers help people. Engineers help people. Lame excuse right there.
To anyone who's reading this comment, you're not here by accident there's a reason why you're here watching this video. Fighting, soon to be doctors! U got this
I'm watching this 8 years later and I'm inspired. I'm definitely pursuing this career irrespective of the age when I'm done from pharmacy school by God's grace. Thank you.
I love the passion in their eyes when they talk about what they love. It's so inspiring. I've wanted to go to med school for a year now and I'm ready to chase that dream!
Wow, I needed this. I was taking a break from studying, (first year med student) went on youtube to watching boxing videos and this video came up. What a blessing! God knew what I was thinking and how I was feeling and showed me this. Thanks so much! Just the fuel I need to get back at it and continue on this journey.
I keep being told that the pre med courses like O chem are going to be tough and like hell, but videos like these remind one thing that is required to keep on going: determination. Regardless of how hard it gets just keep pushing onward
I love her faith , whether you believe in absolutely anything I think it's a great quality of hers to find something beyond herself to keep her going, whatever you need , you find it & you fucking do it for that reason. you never quit, you push yourself , fuss & cry , but you pull the fuck through . Because you believe in life & a purpose & a reason for your being. I love that. Sometimes I think mentally ill break , but if I look for something beyond myself idk it just calms me or something . thanks for the upload - future Dr. (;
Sounds like a difficult decision. I wish you the best. It's very grueling, that's for sure. I only followed these students with the camera a few times early in the morning but it gave me a deep appreciation for the level of commitment they have to have to succeed. Cheers!
studying medicine in Hong Kong and i can identify with so many people in the video! Glad to know were never alone :') Thank you to those who made the video and thank you God for leading every step of my way.
I watched this documentary when I was in first year medical school for motivation and now after 7 years I am medical graduate starting my residency Some memories are really deeply touching bcoz I was totally different person and actually different situation . At that I was struggling with the hardest time in my life
Came across this video because I've been re-thinking my major.( Elementary education) For some reason my heart always comes back to wanting to go into medicine and the only thing holding me down is that I don't feel smart enough. I was really inspired about this video and i'm soooo going to be praying about if this is what God wants for me :)
I'm in a premed club where doctors come in and present. They all have multiple backgrounds of their education. Majority of the doctors say, "You don't have to be smart, I sure as hell wasn't..." In a funny, yet serious way. I'm sure you are smart. You just have to have the desire, the passion, the commitment, to choose this specialty, especially.
I first watched this documentary a few years before starting med school. I found it so incredibly inspiring. I'll have to watch it again to remind myself of why I'm doing this. It's easy to lose sight of things when you're burying your head in books 60 - 80 hours a week.
Why am I staying to up till 2 am in the night before a mid term watching this video as an freshman undergrad... can’t wait to be in their shoes though!
Loans... this is part of the reason Medical School is so expensive, especially if you have a family to support. Nobody we followed had parents paying the bills. Mark, the guy with kids had 2 of them born during medical school, maybe even the oldest too, I can't remember. He is the oldest in this video as he started medical school a few years later than most the others. Jaysson & Brittany, the married couple, were married before they started medical school together.
Hearing all these doctors acknowledge and give the glory to God is amazing! With so much arrogance and "Self" acknowledgement running rampid..this is how a person succeeds...remembering HE makes all things possible!
He said "In Undergrad you didnt have worry to pass" I'm a college freshman pre med student and am like whoa how smart can this dude be? Honestly This video scares me
This is truly an inspiration! I am 17 years old and I am going into my junior year in a few days, and I am realizing that I truly want to be a doctor. Im taking Ap bio and Physics this year! I hope that I can make it! Thanks so much for this video!
this documentary has literally saved me throughout my academic career ever since i was a sophomore in high school. i am now currently a sophomore in university and every time i feel like giving up, i go to this video to remind me of what i am working towards to. regardless of whether or not i become a physician, i know it in my soul that i was meant to make an impact on the world through medicine. i am extremely grateful to have been able to come across this documentary.
For some reason I feel like this is a safe space to open up, I'm so starting soon but this kind of freaks me out but I hope to be a cardiothoracic surgeon and save lives and only this I hope may save my life. I need your prayers.
This would really make such a great idea for a running series all about the experience of different students in medical school...... both as a documentary and as a drama series..... I know I would just LOVE watching this as a regular series....and have "stories" from DIFFERENT medical schools and teaching hospitals in America......and even overseas, like ISRAEL, LONDON, PARIS, et al... It could certainly inspire kids in high school to consider going to medical school in the future....
Just graduated high school going to college as a undergraduate, I've always had interest in the medical field to be a doctor helping people looking at this video the things you go through omg this is stressing me out.
Watched this as a premed then medical student and now as a senior resident. Have managed to cross paths with one of the students shown in this video. It's truly a blessing to have come this far.
I am a Third year Medical student in Nashville , Tennessee, and I GIVE MY ABSOLUTE CREDIT TO GOD ALMIGHTY. Don't let the media and the loud atheists fool you. Peace to you bro.
I agree with you Vivian, God through & through got me from the tragedy of a failing class (by a measly 0.04), to be told you can't into these elite hospitals with that GPA. But you know what God restores! To getting multiple job offers from prestigious hospitals, some of the nation's top 10, and that was even after being let go by my first hospital because they thought I wasn't picking up skills fast enough. To 5 years later working as a healthcare professional. Amen to all that God has done in my life. Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of Hosts (Zechariah 4:6)
Everybody is sharing their story in the comments so I would like to start my own: 9/2022 I have my first med school interview tomorrow. I’m really nervous 10/2022 I got waitlisted from one of my top three programs. It’s the first post interview decision I’ve gotten so it’s hard to stay positive when the first one isn’t a success. 11/2022 I got my first medical school acceptance! I’m so excited! 9/2023 wow med school is a lot. I get what they mean when they say the information never stops. It’s hard, but I passed my first round of exams with above class average scores. I’m excited to get further in
@@calamity1189 hey! Thanks for asking! I ended up getting 3 total acceptances and some waitlists that I withdrew from. One being the school I was waitlisted at during October. It is the same school that I went to in undergrad, a T25 school, and very near my home so I committed there. I’ve been doing all kinds of things to prepare to start school, traveling, and just relaxing. My school year begins in less than a month and I’m excited to see what the future holds! (6/2023)

Wow, all if not almost all of these people must be full-time attendings now. Such an inspiration to just keep moving forward no matter how hard things are
This is the best video I have watched thus far on UA-cam on med life. Everyone makes it seem like a hassle or task with no consolation and reminder why they are pursuing the field in the first place. Not to add I love how their trust is solely dependent on Christ.
I'm a law student and I'm watching this LOL , but this documentary is beyond amazing. May God bless these physicians and having an interaction with patients with certain diseases or pain to cure them.
Kate Dides really??? She said healthcare runs deep in her family. Dentists and nurses absolutely are healthcare workers. At no point did she compare a dentist to a doctor.
Maybe someone will read my comment. I live in Russia and am going to enter a medical university next year. In modern Russia, the issue of technical equipment of medical universities is quite acute. In many areas of Russia (Moscow as a separate state, the rest of the regions seem to be on their own) the terrible equipment of hospitals. I want to cry (( I envy you ( I am not talking about the salary and ungrateful attitude of the leadership. They prefer not to talk about problems (( (sorry for my English)

+Peyton Urich It's exactly the same way in graduate school in mathematics.

+Rah L. so very true. I have friends who struggled to get through high school and many went on to college and excelled with hard work.
+Peyton Urich And from a medical stand point, we can say that determination comes from your brain. It's alllllllll about the brains.

If you love to learn and are open to new experiences and crave challenges, then it's not a waste. It's the journey to getting something you want that is the best part.
Margie Marcum Are you in college right now?
We need an update!
five years later, all their dreams have come true. Im so proud
Can we get an update on where they are now?
Akalia Pace They dropped out
@VulgarDiamonds he lying dont worry lol
One is currently working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo helping to stem the tide of the evil that is Ebola. Another is living in the city of Port Charles, working as an orthopedic surgeon at General Hospital. One is living at a transition house in Queens New York, currently enrolled in a city run Methadone program, after unfortunately losing their medical license after being ravaged by opiate and cocaine addiction due to the stresses of incurring so much student debt. One lives in Napa California as a general practitioner and operates their own family medical clinic with their Father, who is also a medical doctor. Lastly, one gave up medicine after only 3 years to work as a heavy equipment operator in Auburn California.
carpetbeggar how did you find this info?
I have watched a few med students go thru school at different places and I must say it's not only tons of brain work but it takes lots and lots of physical endurance. The hours are extreme. I am proud of all the usa med grads; they deserve a real pat on the back!
I can remember watching this video before starting Med school... now Im a 4th year med student and found everything in this video to be extremely accurate. This has been an amazing journey!!
This is so motivating to anyone who wants to pursue a career in medicine or any medical-related career! I never once got bored watching this.
@janellmd I resonate most with your comment,I don’t know if I’m going crazy but I want to resign in my job as a engineer to apply for medical school
I have watched this so many times
Me too...
i am at like 7+ times
Video Perfection me too lol
I come back whenever I feel like I want to give up 😊and that's a lot.
Gizelle Blanc I can totally relate to your plight buy each time you feel that way remind yourself of your ultimate goal. Remember nothing in life worth having is accomplished easily. God bless future MD
This was the best video I have found this far that truly represents a glimpse of how medical school will be. This was amazing.
ITS DETERMINATION THAT SETS U THRU MED SCHOOL😢😢😍😍
DLOGICAL 1 I love that quote ❤️
Its a necessary evil😉
What is
Gizelle Blanc med school is😏
A
a lot of decent young americans on this documentary. it's much too hard to become a doctor nowadays compare to a few decades back. much more information to learn, tough competition with students coming to study in western countries from all over the world aand more money being spent on tuition fees etc.
the money doctors get paid are not always as good as perhaps they should be, either! all in all only those with true passion and commitment will be able to succeed in making it in this tough industry!
this documentary was really well done!
Mauro Sorrentino medicine is not for the faint of heart.
I worked with a guy who wanted to be a physician for the money AND to be a surgeon.
Please do another one on Medical School!!!
Omg I cried when the med student delivered her first baby 😭😍 you go girl
In my case it was the best feelings in the world in finishing my medical...for me seing this test now its looked so amazing just to watch them all...
Weldone you guys..!!!
This video actually made me cry. So inspiring, especially since I believe in God.
Hi mary
my heart keeps hoping this is an overstatement, but I'm brain keeps saying its probably an understatement
I keep being told that the pre med courses like O chem are going to be tough and like hell, but videos like these remind one thing that is required to keep on going: determination. Regardless of how hard it gets just keep pushing onward
I love her faith , whether you believe in absolutely anything I think it's a great quality of hers to find something beyond herself to keep her going, whatever you need , you find it & you fucking do it for that reason. you never quit, you push yourself , fuss & cry , but you pull the fuck through . Because you believe in life & a purpose & a reason for your being. I love that. Sometimes I think mentally ill break , but if I look for something beyond myself idk it just calms me or something . thanks for the upload - future Dr. (;
kylyesenia I agree the same 😍
In the moment it feels slow, but it goes by fast 💪
Immensely inspiring documentary, I'm heading on to start my last year of medical school in 3 days. Wish me Luck
Sounds like a difficult decision. I wish you the best. It's very grueling, that's for sure. I only followed these students with the camera a few times early in the morning but it gave me a deep appreciation for the level of commitment they have to have to succeed. Cheers!
This made me emotional. I can already imagine the feelings I’d obtain once reaching their level.
studying medicine in Hong Kong and i can identify with so many people in the video! Glad to know were never alone :') Thank you to those who made the video and thank you God for leading every step of my way.
I watched this documentary when I was in first year medical school for motivation and now after 7 years I am medical graduate starting my residency
Some memories are really deeply touching bcoz I was totally different person and actually different situation .
Did you end up switching majors?
I first watched this documentary a few years before starting med school. I found it so incredibly inspiring. I'll have to watch it again to remind myself of why I'm doing this. It's easy to lose sight of things when you're burying your head in books 60 - 80 hours a week.
Why am I staying to up till 2 am in the night before a mid term watching this video as an freshman undergrad... can’t wait to be in their shoes though!
My Family doctor of 35+ years graduated from Loma Linda. I trust him with my life and my kids lives.
Keep it up guys!!!
Loans... this is part of the reason Medical School is so expensive, especially if you have a family to support.
Tim de la Torre Are both Brittany and Jaysson practicing medicine today? This is beautiful
Honestly This video scares me
I graduated from Loma Linda SOM. The best school ever. Spiritual emphasis. International missions. Great professors - mentors - role models.
This is truly an inspiration! I am 17 years old and I am going into my junior year in a few days, and I am realizing that I truly want to be a doctor. Im taking Ap bio and Physics this year! I hope that I can make it! Thanks so much for this video!
Well what happened?
this documentary has literally saved me throughout my academic career ever since i was a sophomore in high school. i am now currently a sophomore in university and every time i feel like giving up, i go to this video to remind me of what i am working towards to. regardless of whether or not i become a physician, i know it in my soul that i was meant to make an impact on the world through medicine. i am extremely grateful to have been able to come across this documentary.
For some reason I feel like this is a safe space to open up, I'm so starting soon but this kind of freaks me out but I hope to be a cardiothoracic surgeon and save lives and only this I hope may save my life.
I need your prayers.
Good luck on your journey! I'm going for MD as well.
beautiful Adventist folks!! God bless you all. praying my daughter will be joining you all!!
This video didnt just scare me but it encouraged me, im entering my second year now in russia....4 years more to go.
Hows life going? It's been 5yrs since your comment, and I'm curious 🙊
Yeah how was it ?
heyyy its been 6 years since you commented this, hows everything going
Ooo wow it’s been 6 years 😂😂. Medical school was great, I have an exam to write before I start practicing.
Proud and admiration for these students! ❣️ All the stress, tears, sweat and hard work they are putting!
I takes so much virtue to become a doctor patience, fortitude, perseverance God bless them all
Just graduated high school going to college as a undergraduate, I've always had interest in the medical field to be a doctor helping people looking at this video the things you go through omg this is stressing me out.
oNxfty hows it going?
Watched this as a premed then medical student and now as a senior resident. Have managed to cross paths with one of the students shown in this video. It's truly a blessing to have come this far.
This was very well put together.
I love to hear them all talking about and thanking G-d! Bless them!
I like how the Loma Linda doctoral students credit God, so many doctors don't give God the credit that he deserves!
I am a Third year Medical student in Nashville , Tennessee, and I GIVE MY ABSOLUTE CREDIT TO GOD ALMIGHTY. Don't let the media and the loud atheists fool you. Peace to you bro.
I really love The humbleness and the dependency from God to do well in what they have put their heart to do🙌🙌🙌
I really appreciate how all these people know that it’s God who has brought them this far. They deserve it ☺️
Wasn't it their determination?
I agree with you Vivian, God through & through got me from the tragedy of a failing class (by a measly 0.04), to be told you can't into these elite hospitals with that GPA. But you know what God restores! To getting multiple job offers from prestigious hospitals, some of the nation's top 10, and that was even after being let go by my first hospital because they thought I wasn't picking up skills fast enough. To 5 years later working as a healthcare professional. Amen to all that God has done in my life. Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of Hosts (Zechariah 4:6)
a very inspiring medical school documentary , to all other medical students reading this , we're in this together ! lets grind this !
Everybody is sharing their story in the comments so I would like to start my own:
9/2022 I have my first med school interview tomorrow. I’m really nervous
10/2022 I got waitlisted from one of my top three programs.
I’m excited to get further in
Congrats future doc!! 😃
hey can you share with us how your journey going as of now?
@@calamity1189 hey! Thanks for asking! I ended up getting 3 total acceptances and some waitlists that I withdrew from. One being the school I was waitlisted at during October. It is the same school that I went to in undergrad, a T25 school, and very near my home so I committed there. I’ve been doing all kinds of things to prepare to start school, traveling, and just relaxing. My school year begins in less than a month and I’m excited to see what the future holds! (6/2023)
I've watched this video every month or so for like... 4 years now? Never seems to get old.
OMG I love this Video! It's so inspiring!!!!!! This is something I can watch everyday through my college life and have a feeling of not being scared to go to a Medical School. Thanks for the upload. May God help us. :)
Thank you so much for everyone that participated in this very useful documentary.
this is my first comment....coz today is my 50times viewing this video ....maybe hearing this is unbelievable...but it's true...😀..
this video inspired me so much .... I've seen adventures and enjoyful lyf of medical before entering.....now I'm in medical and also watch this.....make myself motivated to watch their devotion for medical lyf...☺
medical life is so cool if u believe it with your gut feeling....😇
Wow... This has reallly motivated me to work harder in undergrad, just realizing how easy i actually have it as a freshman in undergrad makes me want to do my best. That way when i get into med school i can do my best.
Wow, all if not almost all of these people must be full-time attendings now. Such an inspiration to just keep moving forward no matter how hard things are
Every single time I need inspiration or don't feel like doing my homework, I watch this video. And every time it reminds me what I'm working towards.
HARDWORK BEATS TALENT IF TALENT DOESNT WORK HARD
I really do see a transition and a person's personality between second and fourth year. The transformation to become a doctor is amazing.
Thank you for making such a detailed documentary about the different years of medical school. It gave me a lot of insight.
this is the one of the best videos i had seen about medical school really it going through all the 4 year stages of med school life
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I can see now what could be the reality in medical school after my preparatory course in college.
This is the best video I have watched thus far on UA-cam on med life. Everyone makes it seem like a hassle or task with no consolation and reminder why they are pursuing the field in the first place. Not to add I love how their trust is solely dependent on Christ.
when she said it was 12:37am i looked at my clock and it was that time exactly
I looked at my clock and it was 02:37
cried through last half. Its beautiful to see the students determination and faith in God. God bless.
So inspirational thank you for posting this
I'm a law student and I'm watching this LOL , but this documentary is beyond amazing. May God bless these physicians and having an interaction with patients with certain diseases or pain to cure them.
Kate Dides really??? She said healthcare runs deep in her family. Dentists and nurses absolutely are healthcare workers. At no point did she compare a dentist to a doctor.
Fourstars...Kate Dides is probably around 5 years old
I graduated from a medical school, and i like how they do things there
Wow Mayo, that's amazing. Good for him.
I remember watching this like 4 years ago as an 8th grader, and it’s always stuck with me
Maybe someone will read my comment. I live in Russia and am going to enter a medical university next year. In modern Russia, the issue of technical equipment of medical universities is quite acute. In many areas of Russia (Moscow as a separate state, the rest of the regions seem to be on their own) the terrible equipment of hospitals.
I want to cry ((
I envy you (
I am not talking about the salary and ungrateful attitude of the leadership.
They prefer not to talk about problems ((
(sorry for my English)
Becoming a doctor is my dream. This was an amazing documentary and these people are extraordinary. I aspire to be them.
