STEN Suppressed Sub Machine Gun
Вставка

- The Sten machine carbine was one of the most hastily completed and most expediently made submachine gun of the Second World War. Although it was reliable, a number of users didn't like it simply because they saw it as a cheap pipe gun created as a last ditch effort. Nonetheless, there were a number of suppressed versions of it, two of the most prominent featured here, the Mk. II(S) and the Mk.VI with the wooden stock and furniture. Initially, the first suppressed version created for SOE was a Mk. II with a suppressor that was 22 inches in length, horribly heavy and unwieldy for the operations that the British clandestine service found themselves in most of the time.
Although the suppressors shown here are integral, due to the construction of the Sten, they could easily be dismantled with the barrel itself. This was an inherent feature with the Mk. IIs, and the Mk.Vs. One of the problems with the suppressed versions was that they could overheat. Thus on many versions, a canvas guard was added to the suppressor to keep a shooter's hands from burning. In addition, the bolts had to be lightened because they couldn't cycle reliably with the additional pressure from the suppressor.

I knew a guy who built a Sten gun from a parts kit using a piece of exhaust tubing to make the receiver. The first time out shooting it he learned two things: 1) It needed hotter rounds than he used to fully cycle the bolt, This means it didn't go far enough back for the trigger to "catch" it and stop it from shooting until empty! 2) always test fire an automatic with no more than 2 rounds in the magazine NOT a full mag!
Either the bolt was too light or the spring too weak.
@@simonmorris4226 That's the exact opposite of what's causing the problem. A weaker spring or lighter bolt (within reason) would help the gun achieve full cycle distance with the given load.
cut one lupe of spring off at a time till it runs perfectly.
spring is to heavy needs to be lighter.
@@piggy59873 that lessens the PRELOAD but actually makes the spring tension INCREASE!
Sad that this is the last one. I've really enjoyed this series.
We'll return to the NFC in the future :P

Who can't help but love the fit and finish of these weapons? Seriously, though, any of us oldsters who were fans of WWII movies wanted one of these badly.
What about youngsters who are fans of WWII movies? We exist too lol.
I always wanted an MP-40, but then I might have been put of by my Gramps' opinion of the Sten. He was _not_ a fan.
So Eastwood and Burton took on the entire Wermacht with 4 of these and two birds ... amazing weapon... 1000 round mags, unbelievable accuracy, explosive rounds that blow up trucks and tank and can hit a moving german at 20pp yards, from a school bus!!!! "Broadsword calling Danny Boy!" 😉... name the movie..
Where Eagles Dare
STENs are cool weapons.
The stock removes with a simple depression of a "button" protruding from the receiver, the barre/shroud unscrews, and the magazine housing rotates to cover the ejection port.
The resultant pieces can fit inside a shoebox.
shot a non suppressed full auto sten mk2 and that thing was so fun
Outstanding presentation in a gun-geek academic kind of way. Personally I tire of the excess 'fluff' inundating media today and appreciate the value of a traditional format.
Enjoyed the detailed history, best video in weeks!
No matter how shitty they were made during WWII, they still worked. Today if they were remanufactured with better magazines, materials, and improvements they would work. Oh shit! I forgot! The British made the Sterling after the war! These were sweet blowback submachineguns...
I remember being shot at by these after I was betrayed and my comrades were killed by nova gas and I had to escape a boat then I was put in a gulag then I made it so this one guy would have the urge to kill dragovich kravchenco and Steiner(the guys who betrayed me) then I helped him escape from the prison and then I died.
You too? I hate when that happens.
I always preferred the Sten over the MP40 lol
damn it Reznov!
Wow can i have your outa graph

Royal Armories in Leeds, UK is well worth a visit. 1000 years worth of ...well... Royal Arms!
I was hoping to see it shoot. Love the videos though! Keep it up!
We would have too :(
Alas, it was in a protected reference collection. The NFC does shoot some of their material at events, but it would have been very difficult for TFB to have gotten that arranged just for us.

Fair enough. Great content regardless.
I think DCC Shrivenham have been known to let people shoot stuff, as a recognised blog and youtube channel they'd probably let you do it. Idk if they have any fancy STEN but they have just about everything else.
Thank you for the heads up bro ..... fuckn hate these all talking no action videos !!!!!!!!
so crappy its beautiful
instead of making slow close-up pans, could you guys maybe put in a wide shot of the subject next time? I think this would greatly improve the feel of the video.
Great vid as always
please add the quotes of the day at the end of your videos again. I miss reading them

''Fully functioning''
Are we still talking about the Sten?
TheOtakuComrade Lol
TheOtakuComrade it really wasn't that bad
Coming from someone who's never operated one...
TheOtakuComrade they actually tried to Kill Heidrich with these but I believe both the guns malfunctioned...so yeah they weren't the best and used to malfuction too often
Malfunctions are related to bad maintance and a wrong way when holding it by the magazine instead of the barrel shroud.
Haha I've been waiting for someone to do a review of this gun!! The suppressed version.
Ssss silence is golden.
oh boy this is going to be good.
The cost of a Thompson was $225 at the beginning of the war and dropped to $45 by the end of the war.. A grease gun was $22 and dropped to $15. A sten was £10 so that's why the British used it. M1 carbine was $45. The British stopped buying Thompson after dunkirk because they could have many stens for 1 Thompson.
Cost less than 7 dollars.

Life is valuable but can be destroyed by a £10 sten gun.
piece of history
the surpressor on a sten actually INCREASES velocity, its basically a longer barrel that allows more of the energy of the propellant to be added to the bullet.
I was in cab today then the cab driver told me "I love being a driver nobody tells me what to do". Then i said turn left.
I didn't know your name was Jimmy Carr.
Why did I think they made an integrally suppressed (with a fixed suppressor extending up around the chamber) model of the STEN? Am I getting it mixed up with the OSS and the grease gun?
thanks!
The thumbnail said this was a 2 min video...7 mins later I'm thinking surely it's been more than 2 mins
TFBTV, if you guys ever get a chance to, can you review the Ohio Ordinance Works HCAR?
I feel like I could make one in a day.
Made by lady's in factory near me, plus Lee Enfield rifles. Even when bombs dropping by the German planes.
No mention of canvas suppression?
Najlosije oruzje koje napravljeno za vreme drugog svetskog rata
This is by far the cheapest gun people always say “ oh it’s the grease gun. “ that always makes me mad because look at the springs and just the gun it’s obvious if cheap not that good and just barely. Gets the job done
Ha a lot of dead nazis thought that. I had the smg in the ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORP. DEADLY GUN
Managed to shoot this atrocity, the gun was semi, but its so used up it sometimes fires in bursts (talking by the one i used), its an interesting experience though
Watch hickok45 video on the 'Sten' and see how this "atrocity" was responsible for putting more nazis in the ground than any other 9mm sub-machine gun of WWII. Necessity is the mother of invention and when Great Britain stood alone for the first 2 years 'pretty' firearms counted for nothing.
im not saying it was a useless gun then, but by today's standards its really terrible and not even that fun to shoot. It does its job, its easy to clean, but it has quite a few flaws and i dont think its a weapon people should praise.
Maks Mamla You can't compare this with today's weapons. It was a case of needs must and it got the job done.
@HappyandAtheist
Mine hated his.
Didn't they make these in LongBranch? Mississauga.
Great video!! I cringe at 4:52 all the way to 5:06. That "ratchety" sound the gun is making when you tighten the collar and you dont rotate the mag well is bad....good thing he was talking the whole time and didnt let us hear it. lol
where is Alex? good video by the way ;-)
Ali Osman AKSU he is working on his true passion: automobiles
Good enough for the Germans
The Sten Gun looks like the Type 100
The sten looks like a modified lead pipe with gun parts welded on , no wonder it was so cheap
Cheap and deadly. 3 million made, 1 million dropped to the resistance. At less than 7 dollars a gun
Did the job. 3 million made.
Nice job Miles, we need to see your face in that furry hat again ha ha. But, All ur Vids are interesting. The Sten looks like it was welded together by a blind man, but still somehow operated lol. They must've had a lot of baffle strikes with those things. I mean how close can the tolerances be on a multi mass produced suppressor like that, and used in combat conditions?

I think you might want to tell Royal Armouries contact an excorcist, Miles. I'm pretty sure that gun is haunted.
It's all the dead nazis crying in hell, complaining about the sten
which is better the PPSh-41 or Sten, since they were both cheap mass produced submachine guns?
superstrongtoa having fired both I can tell you the ppsh is (and I'm British)
First of all the PPSH is just a more inspiring weapon, if you give someone a Sten they'd probably go 'The hell is this crap'', the PPSH has actual ergonomics compared to the Sten.
These are the two things we can all agree on.
A better comparison would be the sten and the pps 43. Considering the British were in desperate need of smgs I think they did pretty well with the sten but I will agree the ppsh 41 is superior
The PPSH41 and 43 easily. They're chambered in a better round and made better.
The sten is better at being what it was designed for, to be cheap and mass produced and the ppsh is a better sub machine gun
As much as I love the content, his voice and delivery don't jive well with me
Hey thanks man!
-Miles
TFB TV His voice doesn't bother me, but there are a lot of sss (pronounce that) on the end of his words. I could see that bother people similar to when somone says "and" a lot when speaking. The content is great and much appreciated. IDK if you're European, but I work with some guys from Germany and Slovakia they have the same pronunciation characteristics when they speak English.
Kristiantio905 Not all of us.
He just sounds like a normal guy to me. Great video.
It's' not a compliment
Can Sten Guns use MP40 magazines? I've heard people say they can while others say no.
Can you do a Blyskawica smg?

I hope the mark5/6 are in the new cod along with other British guns

Oh man
I thought it's been debunked that suppressors had 0% affect on accuracy and or velocity?
Shepard? Shepard!!!
EN stands for England, not Enfield.
the mark 2 looks like it's seen some shit
i already bought some hoppes 9 bore cleaner stop advertising
Ammo remaining the same, a suppressor will increase bullet speeds. Period.
at least forgotten weapons goes and shoots them...
EN England not Enfield.
Shame for the British Empire to send the people in the war with a garbage like this

The "sten guns", were known to be a piece of shit.! A jolt could trigger them, and several people were killed by tripping, falling and therefore emptying an entire mag into a poor Guy's back, often killing his friends aswell.!
sten means stone in swedish
mackebest1995 Imagine being in the resistance having a buddy not knowing too much about guns.
"Shit, THROW ME A STEN!"
*Buddy picks up nearest rock and throws it at you*
nice job man. very informational. very cool gun.. even though most are pieces of shit. 💩💩
Barrel *N U T*
wrong . the EN stands for the factory that made the gun , not developed it
Stop trying to be forgotten weapons
He's so fucking annoying to listen to. Ian is not.
Sorry, very rushed and lightweight commentary.
But does it fucking hold zero?
A sten will outshoot most people at 100 yards.
Pls don't bully Miles
this gun is so ugly, i hate it with a passion
So did the nazi monsters, killed loads
stens just plain suck. the issue with the penetration is surely because of its 3 inch barrel
