Strong man to buff big parts all day !
Now I understand why it is an expensive process. So much work and time.
Correct.
Outstanding workmanship
Many Thanks
A very enjoyable informative video on the whole restoration and plating of the bumper and most importantly no annoying so called music found in some of your other videos.
It is not a rock concert or a pub, just leave out all the annoying so called music in future.Thanks.
Thanks for the comment
I'd love to see some mk1 cortina bumpers.👍🇬🇧 great work 🎉❤
That would be cool!
Just love your videos, so detailed ...at around 12:00 there is a guy in the background linishing or polishing a motorcycle exhaust. I didn't realise you do these, as a lot of shops won't touch them due to bath contamination or do a 'drain test' by filling with water and if the water doesn't drain fast enough they won't take the job on.
Yes we do them.
Come on this is art! What a transformation! So much work involved you wouldn’t belief it unless I saw that.
Wish I knew about you last summer, I had some classic two stroke Yamaha RD original exhaust pipes done in Birmingham, I’m still bothered by the finish.
Well done you lot for such fabulous work.
Thank you so much!
you craftmen are operating a time machine!!
amazing results. thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much!
Great job, well done. I love the work you do. It's still real craftsmanship. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much!
Incredible job!
You guys do a great Job, very impressive!
Thank you very much!
That is beyond stunning, true craftsmanship👍🏼
Wow! How many hours spent on that? Also what amazing work by a skilled polisher.
Fantastic transformation, loved watching this👏👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent work and great job
I hope you pay the metal polisher well for all his hard work. How many time did he have to go over that bumper before he got the finish he got before plating.
Also is the acid dip after the electric dip sulphuric because I think at one stage you said it was like vinegar?
Yes. Dilute sukphuric
Incredible amount of work, my respect! One question: as you always say, any detail should be cleaned thoroughly before plating to achieve best adhesion to surface. I can see the bumper was washed manually by rag on it's external side only, while the internal surface was only rinsed by solution without washing by hands. Is it enough? The back side of bumper shouldn't shine as brilliant definitely, however good adhesion is important here as well for weather protection.
Yes, exactly. Sequences are shortened. Footage of wiping the rear have notmade it into the final cut
Amazing looking end product. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
well one great job :)
Thanks!
fantastic video, great information, great work - could you include some more information about how you determine the amout of amps required. Also some more videos on pot metal would be great as well. Please keep up the good work!!!
Yes I can
I’m impressed at this process. I always wondered how old rusty pitted chrome pieces were restored. Plus the amount of work that goes into this piece is staggering.
I have two questions: How many man hours went into this piece and how much would something like this cost to restore?
About 12-15 hours work. Cost would be around £1000 without the repair
Wow, amazing job team👍👍👍💥💥💥 Just curious what does the lime powder do?
It is for removing any greasy deposits from the polishing compounds. Just to clean it and aid inspection for marks as you can't see them through smears.
The skills shown in this video are so cool 😎 is there no way of filling some of the deeper pit holes?
We did. We brazed some up
The finish reflects the amount of work that went in to restoring it. I have to ask though, how much does this kind of work cost? Are we talking thousands here?
Well, it was over one but less than two.
Love your videos!!
What kind of solution is in the “electric cleaner tank”?
A mixture of cyanide / caustic soda / gluconate.
Amazing work guys! I am very interested in ‘black chrome’. I don’t know if you do that plating?? I would love to see it done..
Thanks for the kind words. We don't do black chrome.
Amazing work, true craftsman with the patience of a saint to polish to this level. Curious as to how many amps are needed for the chrome application on a bumper this size?
over 1000
I notice you used lead solder on this to fix defects but other platers have always told me only to use high silver content silver-solder. Any tips please? you did once plate me some M/cycl parts that I had silver soldered some pits/tiny holes and they turned out brilliant but you stll hav to put quite a bit of heat in to get silver solder to flow.
Very good question. We only use lead when the the heat from silver solder would cause damage / problems. Silver solder is prefererable to lead. Brazing is preferable to silver solder. Welding is preferable to brazing. How it is repaired is dicatated by how much heat the part can take.
@@ChromeandCarRestoration spot on reply ..thanks for taking the time to explain.
Very nice work, I enjoy these videos. I have a question about the electric cleaner. Is it like a ultrasonic cleaner? Thank you
No. It just has a DC electric current passed through it.
@@ChromeandCarRestoration the current is passing through water or is that a solution in the tank?
have you thought of weighing these bumpers to see how much has to be removed to get it ready for plating?
No. Never done that.
I find this very interesting. Do you need to leave a rough surface for the chrome to bite to or is it the smother the better? These guys have to be in good shape, I imagine some bumpers can get real heavy like a Cadillac bumper.
Either is good.
I like it what u done so far I watch all your video ❤ but can u tell me what about inside the bumper I mean u don’t clean the small tiny rust hole. That’s not gonna be a problem after some time ?
All of the rust is removed. We can't polish or plate rusty parts. The inside of the bumper gets far less plating than the outside (low current density area). The inside of the bumper needs painting to protect it
@@ChromeandCarRestoration definitely I will bring my bumpers i like your videos :)
What would the price be on a bumper that size? Looking to chrome my Oldsmobile bumpers.
Hi, this bumper was about £1000 without the repair
What’s the name of the tool the metal guys use to shave off the surface of the bumper?
Its a type of file.
For the first step, what is the concentration of hydrochloric acid, 35%?
28%
Where are you located? I have 3 items to be rechromed.
