Thanks for the beginner basics for transferring from cut vinyl to object to be stickers. Am making my 1st effort in vinyl in a project hubby & I are starting to put together for Christmas Yard decorations. sNc will be used for Santa's Mail Box decorations ie Snow flakes, Sleigh & other images that came on my CM350, & first effort to lettering "Merry Christmas" & "Santa's Mail Box". Will try to add pic's of finished project!

Hi Paper Chef 😁 you're such a great educator, you're so informative, is their away I can send you Two Brand new Brother CM Cutting Mats I don't have any use for them is not compatible with my machine . I bought the wrong mat for my machine 🤔, I hope to hear from you soon. I watch you all the time with your great projects. HAPPY CRAFTING 🤗
Oh you’re very welcome Ada. I’m glad I could help. There is a Contact Me form on my site. Use that and I’ll email you back. That is very kind of you. paperedchef.stampinup.net
I just received the SDX85M for a present from my daughter and I'm trying to cut some vinyl and all the machine can with was the auto blade! I'm not having any luck! Lol Do I need a different blade or just have way more to learn?
I am having difficulty with my machine. Can you offer help? When cutting small letters, it is not automatically recognizing/cutting inner lines of letters like o, d, a, etc. Not sure what to do! For my project, the lettering can be no larger than 4.5”w x .75’h These are delicate script letters
Amy, definitely create your own letters within Canvas Workspace and cut them out rather than scan them. I have courses to teach you. Or, use Scan to Cut Data which will be a nightmare for small letters. Current course coupons: thepaperedchef.com/brother-scanncut-courses
skooterbird The roll of vinyl I used here is a roll I purchased in Germany 🇩🇪. I’ve also used Cricut vinyl, sticker paper and 8.5 inch wide glimmer vinyl sheets. All worked fine so I’m going to say that any kind of vinyl will work. Just do a test cut on a small area first so that you know which blade depth is best.
Oh yes Catherine. There are only two major designs and my courses apply to them. There are CM models and SDX models. All of the CM models have very similar settings so my course will apply to your machine.
Question, can i throw oracle 651 into this? Or does all vinyl you cut have to be stuck to the board. I want the vinyl to still have the backing like a sticker after cut. And to not go through the back
You can do whatever you want with your vinyl because it is a sticker. I stick it to all kinds of objects. I never tried Oracle 651 but give it a whirl and share how it goes.
Papered Chef thanks, it’s wonderful that you take the time to reply......I shall get some transfer tape, tried vinyl for 1st time yesterday....I mirrored the letters but put the vinyl face up so.......yes, back to front letters!
Hi there! I tried cutting a really intricate designs but the vinyl(only on the intricate design example; a really small dot/a thin line) was lifted while still cutting. Any advice?
There are so many things it could be which is why it is always good to do a test cut. It will make a little shape in your vinyl and if that works, the rest of the cut will work. Try increasing your pressure. You can also try sharpening your blade. ua-cam.com/video/tjuhKAsURIc/v-deo.html
I know this is now too late but for anyone Newbies reading this there are several types of vinyl and for fabric it needs to be heat transfer for it to stick and stay this is cut slightly different due to how it is applied but should come with instructions. The key thing for fabric is it needs to be flipped/reversed before cutting in order for it to the right way once applied. Hope that helps a little
Ok. Question: I printed off a symbol(it's a meditation ohm symbol) on regular copy paper (full sheet 8.5x11). Would I be able to scan that symbol into the ScanNCut2 cm350 and then cut that shape out of vinyl? I want to stick this symbol to the cover of a notebook I made.
Yes, you can but it sure seems like too much work. You can down that very common symbol for free. Open it up in Canvas Workspace. Send it to your machine and cut it.
Will the software let you print the letters as a paint mask so that the adhesive is on the front letters so I guess can you flip the letters backwards and print? Thanks
The Canvas Workspace software and the built in controls on the machine will mirror your images. The mask is automatic in that you weed out the parts you want to discard. I hope that makes sense. Use transfer tape for sure.
Hi Carrie, sorry I didn't see your question until now. Of course you can. You could use an online file, draw something, stamp something or scan patterned paper. If you are going to cut your own design or pattern, be sure to use Scan to Cut Data. Then, you retrieve that data and cut it using vinyl.
I am at wits end! I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I went into Photoshop and made a simple saying for vinyl. I exported it and saved as SVG. I took the flash drive to my CM550 and hit pattern from saved drive. “No pattern selected”. I also printed the saying up and scanned it into the scan n cut. Same error message. I don’t know what the heck I am doing wrong! I went to Canvasworkspace but my screen does not look like others. There is no option to choose text from my computer, only their fonts. This is why it sat in its box for almost 3 years. I have tried everything and give up. Unless anyone has any ideas.
Take a Deep Breath Sheri. You are probably trying to use the web based version of Canvas Workspace instead of the downloaded version. Go to support.brother.com and download Canvas Workspace. Install it and then when you open it, you will see all of the fonts on your computer. Here are my courses. You would benefit from the Working with Fonts course that I teach. thepaperedchef.com/brother-scanncut-courses
Samantha, the default pressure is 0 and unless I indicate it in my video, I don't change it. You know that it is the default setting because of the black box around the number. I change it when I am cutting magnetic materials and thick items but not for vinyl and card stock.
Thanks for watching Carrie. Oh yes! It is so much fun using Stampin' Up! products with this machine. I sure buy enough paper so I like getting the most out of it.
Lovely, if there are ever any special settings, you will see them in the description. This is the only setting. For my machine, a blade depth of 1.5 was best for this job. All of the other settings are at their defaults as indicated by black rectangles behind them.
Sorry this video failed me. it is nice tips but cannot see anything you are doing. Pushing buttons. What was the button. What is reason rubbing while cutting? As I understand if cutting something big you will have to sit there and rub your finger on it. Great video to tease a person to have watch your other videos. No thank you. I came for simple basics. You don’t want to show me then I will find a person who will show what they are doing.

How I use usb and what software to send words machine. Without buy activation card ?
Within Canvas Workspace, save the file to the USB. Then, open it up within your machine. No software needed.
Do you peel the backing off the vinyl then apply it to the sheet and remove it with the transfer tape?
Great tutorial thank you so much...Could you please tell me if I can use any vinyl in the BSC or must I buy a special kind to use...Thanks Pat

Hello and thanks for another brilliant video! Can I just ask if you can use the transfer tape more than once?
Thanks for watching Stephanie. Yes, I use the transfer tape over and over. Just keep using it until it’s no longer sticky enough to be effective.
