    Waaah! Yesterday I had this realization to take my self-investment so seriously, especially in my career. I too, jumped in Product Management without experience. While I am learning the ins and outs of this career by the help of my leaders, I wanted to also pursue it and gain a more in-depth understanding of the Product Management. I am also an Asian and I think this might just be what I needed to step up my PM journey. Thank you Chloe for making this possible and using your platform to reach your unichlos in a more tech-level kind of way. 🙌🏼 More powers to you! 🙏🏻 Gosh, hope I could meet you in person one day.

    Thank you so much for your high-quality videos Chloe and all the stellar advice! I'm just barely 17 and have been accepted into my dream school, my dream career is to be a Product Manager, specifically at Apple. But now, I have to reverse engineer my approach as I step foot into this new chapter of my life at U of AZ. I am a highly entrepreneurial, driven, ambitious and empathetic person who would love such a role. Growing up without my biological parents, and being abused and neglected all of my life, I know deeply what failure is like. But it is, in my belief, the raw stimulus for growth and success as you mentioned, so I hope that the PM role might suit me. Anyway, I'm wondering what I should major in, I'm thinking about marketing bec I love photography and selling something people admire, love and think is aesthetic. Also, what are some top certification courses or programs that would benefit me? I know this is a lot, and I thank you for reading all the way down here. I just want some tailored advice if possible. I appreciate your hard work and videos and I hope you'll have a blessed life!♥
    I'm thinking about communicating with software engineering and design majors upperclassmen who are like seniors in order to help me build an app. I'm not a technical person at all, have almost no interest in learning coding, but I'm good at statistics and data analysis. Anyway, I want to create an app while in college under the product life cycle steps from conception to completion. Specifically, I want to create a food and cosmetic app that you can download on your phone, scan stuff in stores, and figure out the nutrition profile, how organic/healthy the product is, etc. I believe there is a great need for this. If the plan works and the app is developed and people like it, I would like to sell the idea to Apple, and kind of wiggle my way into PM role at Apple; my dream! Any thoughts about my networking and development strategy. Thank you once again!

    On interview questions about 'Product X'… What do you do/say if you don't use the app/product referenced in the question? For example, I might now be able to give a knowledgeable answer to a hypothetical question about TikTok because I simply don't/won't use it.
    In videos about PM interviews, there seems to be a heavy assumption that the interviewee is familiar with all the popular apps. Are these typical of the big digital product companies (e.g. IG, FB/Meta, Google, etc…) or are they common also for less established companies?
    (I'm a Snr UX looking to move into PM, though I'm not interested in seeking a place at any of the types of big digital companies mentioned.)

      there are some learnings for sure - especially with user research, first principles thinking, meeting management, leadership concepts, 0-1 product positioning, and when products fail. but i'd say physical products have a very different product development cycle and execution needs. i think they're far more operational and you need to look at margins a lot of the time for success. product thinking is super applicable to any types of businesses where you need to solve problems for certain customers.

    I am a computer scientist and work with applied ML in research. I live in Europe and I have been thinking of product management role in industry and wanted to slowly learn about it. Why does it make a difference for a course to be targeted for Asian market? Is PM strategies different for each market?

    • @chloeshih
      @chloeshih  3 місяці тому

      Great question! Technically, there are differences in various markets. Like Taiwan is very B2B driven and excels in hardware. But I built this course for B2C markets in the consumer product spaces.
      This is mostly for Chinese speakers because the website is in Chinese and doesn’t have an English setting quite yet :/ but other people are saying that if you google translate the page or use safari translator, you can navigate the site quite well.
      In terms of the actual content - the material is rooted in Silicon Valley best practices. It’s filmed in English with Chinese subtitles. Hope that helps clarify things!

    Interviews are not the problem, getting past the screening is.
    Any advice for that for people who are not Ivy or Stanford, MIT CS degrees?

    • @chloeshih
      @chloeshih  3 місяці тому +1

      There's an entire dedicated chapter on the art of resume writing for product - tactical advice, actual phrases, templates, examples.
      I'll also mention that having degrees from Ivy Leagues or Stanford / MIT does not guarantee you'll get the job. It certainly does help you get access to a pool of people who might already be in those jobs, but you still need to demonstrate core competencies and experience. You also need to learn the game of interviewing.
      Especially in tech, I do think it's quite easy to sniff out people who actually know what they're doing vs are just carried by brand names. For the most part, the people in the latter don't do well long-term. Hope this helps answer your question!

      @@chloeshih Yes it does, thank you for the response!
      I agree with what you're saying but I would say there is only so much you can do to tailor your resume and your existing experience to fit a PM role.
      IMO the best way someone can get past resume screening at big tech is either by:
      a) Taking a PM job at smaller/lesser known companies and successfully launching products there
      b) Getting as close to a product adjacent role at whatever company you're at now and be able to demonstrate your success with specific metrics
      Would love to hear your thoughts

      @chloeshih  3 місяці тому

      i mean language-wise haha. like the course is filmed in english, but the website is in chinese. so if you google translate the page, then you might be able to navigate it. but that's the main barrier!

    Why do western people forget the India is a part of the Asia. I would have liked to take up the course. But when at the end you mentioned it is only for the ones who knows Chinese, what? Asia market has other countries as well

    • @chloeshih
      @chloeshih  3 місяці тому +2

      I don't think I disregarded other parts of Asia here. My main point is that it's not going to be easy to navigate the website because it's in Chinese and targeted for the Taiwan market. The course is filmed in English though (with Chinese subtitles). If you google translate the webpage, then you should be able to navigate and participate in the course! But even I, as a Chinese speaker, have a hard time navigating the site. Hope that clarifies things!

    No offense, but Tebogo and Kenny B. did not edge him out. They beat him plain and simple. He barely edge Kishane out because of lack of performance experience from Kishane... plus his longer body and torso didnt play in his favor hence why many of their legs passed the line before their chest.
