Easy way to solve that, have Kirk take over as captain temporarily when pike is kidnapped or something all you gotta do is limit the interactions so they aren't close by the time of the menagerie
Great to see Kirk and great to see the nod to great things from Admiral Pike regarding Spock and Kirk. In many universe, if not all, Spock dies and Pike/Kirk fights on in the Romulan Wars. Since Pike gave that nod to Kirk before he entered the room it is assuredly a nod to the great things Capt Kirk has done during the Wars. Pretty awesome if they take on the multiverse. The Spock dilemma is very problematic for all timelines. Since this is the only timeline that Spock is to become ambassador and prevent the Romulan War all other timelines must then will see to his end, one way or another. If they tie it to the movies then there lies the problem.

The episode was about a _single_ timeline where Pike had changed his life path as a result of him being given a glimpse of his future, a timeline which had to be corrected to set things right and the way they were supposed to go; it absolutely _wasn't_ showing that Spock died prematurely "in many universes, if not all."

Kirk should not meet Pike at all. In the Menagerie, Kirk says he me Pike at the transfer of command when Kirk got the Enterprise. There is a universe of stuff they could tackle. Why pick the things that directly affect cannon.
He played an iconic character and people want to see and hear from their "Captain." Why shouldn't he not only capitalize, but enjoy the people that love him as a person and character. He's not bitter. He knows the foundation of Trek because he was PART of it.

It doesn't. 80% of the bridge crew are women.. (apparently, men in the future would rather be somewhere doing something else instead of joining the crew of a military space force) Captain Pike acts like a subservient wimp to all the lower ranked female officers on the ship who are the main focus of the show. The only reason Captain Pike and Spock are there is to lure in viewers and make them think they are actually watching a faithful homage to the original series, which they are not.
