- Matt Horn, chef and owner of the renowned Horn Barbecue in Oakland, has had a terrible week. His restaurant on Mandela Parkway was vandalized with graffiti on Sunday night. And then on Tuesday morning, his prep crew showed up to work to see a portion of the building in ruins.

80000 in debt to meat supplier. and didn't pay employees? so he sold the meat and kept the money and kept borrowing, then his business went up in fire. he dont seem like upstanding guy. 90% insurance fraud.
Yeah, that guy sounds like a scammer and I would`nt be surprised if he actually contracted someone to torch the place or had a friend do it.
He also OWED $$ to his meat distributor and had tried to skimp out on paying his employees their full due. A real shitstain is what he is.
Most of us still prefer "innocent until proven guilty." Question: What kind of 'upstanding' individuals would burn down a building in retaliation? Answer: There aren't any.

Oakland never disappoints when you think shit has hit rock bottom.
There`s a lotta places that are a lot worse off, specially back east. Try living in Detroit which along w/Chicago are the two states that have the highest rates in violent crime. Oakland is a Disneyland compared to those places and it should also be noted how Chicago`s extremely strict gun control laws were never effective because the demand is still there.
I personally would`nt give my money to a restaurant owned by such human trash, no matter where I was.

I’m hella mad I’ve been living in Oakland for about a year and a 1/2 and I never got a chance to try this spot. Would always pass it on the way to Target and Home Depot though and it was always packed. SMH

If I had a business in oakland and wanted it to look like a retribution fire, I'd ask the local gang to graffiti it and then send a mean social media warning to them and then burned down my business and collect the insurance money- I saw this on an episode of Monk.
Actually that would be the worst way to commit fraud. You've added a computer to the crime and co-defendants (witnesses) which would probably involve the fbi and a lot more time on your sentence.

Why wouldn't he have security cameras? Tapo cameras are like $30 each with person and motion detection and alarming.

It does`nt happen that much and what this case MOST LIKELY is a case of is that Matt Horn had his own business torched so he can collect the insurance. He certainly had the motive -- he was in debt to the meat distributor for $80K and he also withheld from paying his own employees.
