Here's my first Gunpla story: I was on vacation in Oahu this year and my brother took me to a Don Quijote store (Japanese importer). I knew I wanted a few things but didn't really know what to get so I just grabbed an Entry Grade Gunpla off the wall for 10 bucks and said "what the heck, sure" without really knowing if I'd have the means of building it. I'd caught bits and pieces of Gundam Wing when it was on Toonami and was enamored but never dove into the show or franchise. Flash forward a month later and I built it: my first Gunpla GAT-X105 Strike Gundam. I was amazed at the engineering that went into just designing this tiny beginner's kit and now I want to get into more. I watched the 0079 Trilogy and I think I'm hooked... Awesome video, I feel confident moving forward :)
This a great hobby don’t let anybody tell you different it’s super fun. I’ve done lots of models and every one of them has their own challenges but it’s really rewarding. Also it’s pretty cheep. I’d tell anyone to try it especially if you liked legos as a kid.
It is a really fun hobby ngl. But DAMN is it expensive! And i cant really make money off of it. Unless i do paint jobs and sell em but the investment + learning is too much for a high school who saves lunch money like me
7:45 I actually have a store chain in my state called the toy vault, they have an entire wall of Gunpla and a vast amount of transformers. It’s quite stocked for a chain with like 5 locations. Also thank you for this guide!
I got into gunpla by talking to a guy who was hanging around an alley near my place. he gave my 1st dosage of gunpla for free. I got hooked. Now I spent all my money on gunpla.
'Does it cost a lot of money' Oh lord... I'm into 40K and dear lord when I checked the price on these kits I was shocked by how much cheaper everything was, the kits around the same size as a Land Raider tank are legit HALF THE DAMN PRICE THIS IS HEAVEN.
Yeah when compared to other things like anime figures and figmas they're really cheap the quality on almost all of them are great too so kudos to bandai
I am glad that i knew nothing of gunpla and picked up a high grade for my first one (It was RX-78-2 gundam beginner i didnt even know it was a beginner)
Kinda late but I also fucked up my first Gundam build back in 2016. I was 12 years old and had no tools whatsoever, I was just recently gifted a RG Freedom Gundam ZGMF-X10A and completely broke some parts. Really stressful to look at 4-5 years later.
I watched this a year ago and as of today I have built 22 models. So happy this ended up in my recommendations. Thank you so much for making this video. I'm glad I picked up this hobby!!
"What do grades mean? Well in my case growing up it meant no video games for the rest of the week." I wish I could give a second thumbs up just for this comment. I can relate so much I laughed.
@@rio-ob3ee well, a year later and I’m deep in the rabbit hole. I went from HG kits to RG kits to MG kits (that I love building). PG kits just too expensive tbh. I also went from building, to building and panel lining. Now I build panel line water decal and top coat my builds. Currently I just started experimenting with painting my kits. And I’ve also started building and painting warhammer 40k models too. So yeah… a year later hooked on plastic crack to a wallet destroying degree. Couldn’t be happier 😁
Walked into a Japanese toy shop yesterday, didn't expect to buy anything, Japanese dude sold me on a Gundam, now I'm here and ready to dive into all of it lol
1 year later and this is still the best beginners guide to gunpla. I believe this video encouraged so many people to get into the hobby. Myself included. Thanks again !!!
gunpla is for people who had a lot of free time.. trust me.. i still had some does not yet been open out of the box and the shop that selling me is gone...
I started this hobby on a whim, just randomly bought mg sazabi, then used wire cutter and sand paper , turns out just fine, I didn't know they have specific tools for this XD
Ever since my dad bought me those simple 30 minute made model kits, I’ve been in love with them! Kinda moved off from Lego, and came to gunpla. I’ve been trying to find some good master grades, but the MS-09 Dom was my favorite. Haven’t opened, waiting for X-mas for the surprise. This video helps more!

So now whenever I come across this video it brings back nostalgia and some great memories. And also a big thanks for giving tips for the beginners!
Thank you for watching! I tried making it as informative as possible but also entertaining and well put together so it would be easy for people to watch and enjoy 😁
My first build was a minute ago but I recently got 2 models so me and my girlfriend could build them and there incredible. I have adhd so the attention to detail was really nice and she had a lot of fun just making sure each cut was perfect.
As a rather jaded Warhammer 40k Fan I might just get into this hobby, even if I am not a fan of Gundam. But just the aspect of building it is great for someone like me who likes to assemble stuff. Looks cheaper. Though I might start with the Entry Grade Rx something. Update: will be on a 40k hiatus thanks to Gunpla....
I've been wanting to get into gunpla for years. Saw my local game store had some on the shelf, but rather than diving right on in I figured I'd wait a bit. Then I found this video in my recommendations and learned a lot, not just for Gunpla, but for other kits that require cutting out pieces and sticking them together. Wonderful video, but now I feel even less obliged to continue working on the Warhammer set I got 5 years ago because ho boy did I make a lot of mistakes. Glad I saw this before I started working on the new Killteam kit coming out and before buying some gunpla.
this might be one of the clearest guides to a possible new hobby/piece of entertainment i've ever seen. i've been interested in watching people make gundams for a while now and i always guessed that doing this myself would be not only a hassle and a waste of money but also would require me to do all kinds of things like painting which i honestly couldn't see myself ever doing, but the first 4 minutes alone completely quashed those worries and now i feel like i could try it. it's not like i need another hobby on top of the ones i already have but they all have in common that it's like putting together puzzle pieces. i don't know if and when i'll buy a set but this video has definitely convinced me to do so.
Awesome guide! I got a Gundam Exia real grade for Christmas and was intimidated on opening the box considering it being my first Gunpla. A week later decided to give it a go and man, what a journey it was. During the process i was just mind blown by the level of detail and how the mechanics moved as it was coming together. Each piece completed was extremely satisfying and once it's all finished the payoff was more than id anticipated like it had sparked some sort of connection. i definitely understand the fan base behind this hobby now because i want more Gundams, a lot more.
Hey me too! Exact same kit and feelings. I’m now 3 kits in, have 3 kits out for delivery, and 3 back ordered. I love it. I’ll be getting in my first MG with a Barbatos tomorrow.
I wish I had seen this before I started building Gunpla models on Twitch, but now that I have, I can show my viewers how easy it is to get started. Thank you so much for making this. I will share it with my community for sure!
I’ve been a warhammer 40k fan for years but I’ve always loved Gundam so watching this helps me really decide on getting Barbatos I’m super excited to get into this hobby a little
Yesterday midnight I just got into Gunpla thanks to you! I spent LITERALLY 22 hours learning about the hobbies I want to finally start doing and my passion for film. I spent 10 hours straight looking into Gundams and this was the first video that hooked me! So entertaining and helpful! Gundam wasn’t a hobby I was thinking of doing until now, plus since it also falls in the customizing territory it definitely will be! My father is already into Gunpla and I built the HGBF Try Burning in 2016 when I was 13 because my grandma bought me it before we left Hong Kong. Hopefully this passion isn’t short lived because DAMN I’m addicted and I didn’t even properly start yet! Regret not buying kits sooner especially in Hong Kong. Keep up the brilliant work! Can’t wait to join you guys in Gundam Heaven and wallet Hell!
25:50 helped me out so much. I took of every piece and threw away the plastic it came with. So I had pieces in piles. Took me a while to distinguish the pictures but this instruction helps lol
Although I'll probably not pick up the hobby anytime soon, I just wanted to say this guide is very clear, concise, and excellently paced. Growing up, a lot of kids my generation in my country had Gunpla kits so I'm familiar with the hobby. My best friend in middle school had a couple of kits and we assembled one together once. Good times.
It is... I'm interested in gunpla since I build a lot of Lego lately.. I might not have the resource yet but when I do.. I definitely know which one to buy first thanks to this
I'm sooo unbelievably happy I found this. I was nervous about nub removal and water stickers so seeing those parts in detail was super helpful. Ahh I feel alil more confident in going into zoids and gunpla builds 😁
I am so glad these are so easy to assemble. A friend of mine said that these were just like normal model kits where you have to glue them together and paint them. Ain't nobody got time for that lmao
Amazing video. My favorite part was how much like a "How It's Made" episode it was; your calming voice, the fun, cocked angles while things spin, it was great. Very nice, and got me psyched to dive into Gunpla as a mid-30s Gundam baby. Haven't touched a model since I was a preteen living in South Florida, and now I'm excited to get back into it.
This is probably THE most well put, concise and informational guide I've ever seen on the Internet, not just related to Gundams , but in general. Kudos man, great work. More guide videos should be formed like this.
This video showed me how amazing this hobby is. Funny how. Little random vid on my fyp opened me a door to a new fantastic hobby. Thanks ig thats the perfect vid to star gunpla al that information is very helpful
Just ordered a 1/100 Master Grade Red Frame and it's 1/100 Flight Pack. I'm really excited to build again. My first Gunpla were made back when Gundam Wing/Endless Waltz and G Gundam were popular, so it's been a while. You just got a subscriber my guy!
Coming back to comment again on this video as a much more experienced builder. Working on even more kits, I now have some master grade progress under my belt, with the current project I’m stoked for being the MG astray Kai. A kit I’ve heard from many is one of the best out there. The deeper in you go, the more you get out. You’ll make mistakes, lose or damage parts, do an atrocious job with certain paint jobs, weather kits in a way that makes them just look wrong. But you’ll also get results that are mind boggling, take pride in the best results you achieve, and fill your den with collections upon collections of projects that took hours, days, even weeks of time to finish. Very soon I’ll be getting my first perfect grade. I want to do actual kitbashing some day. I’ve even learned about painting techniques, and want to study things like color theory just to improve that much more. This stuff is art, and will open a whole new world to you if you try to be a little bold with it. This video was a perfect diving point for me to really get into things with, and I highly recommend it.
I got into gunpla thanks to the help of a friend with Barbatos Lupus Rex HG and I made it without stickers, but I had the tiniest snafu when putting together an arm. A tiny peg snapped off and sadly gluing wouldn't work with the plate , so now there's a tiny gap. My friend said that with beginners, it's okay to make mistakes and you will learn. You'll be able to do the kit another time later on when you are much more confident.
That's my first gunpla kit too. I only bothered with the eye stickers. The rest I just used markers to color them. The wraparound stickers just stuck so much.
I was out at hobby lobby and I saw the exact kit I wanted,I sat on the idea of wether or not to build it,but I've watched some videos since then including this one and I really want to get into the hobby, thank you for making this video. They're both MG, not sure how easy I'll find it, but really looking forward to getting stuck in as soon as I finish my Gundam Wing cross stitch of all the boys :D
I'm literally blind to Gundam and gunpla, but I've wanted to have a more constructive and creative outlet, so I'm excited to start getting my very first gunpla kits!
I've already built several kits over the course of about three years (however these were all HG kits and a few SD kits), but this definitely helped clear up some things I didn't know about dry decals and water slide decals. As well as clarifications on some terminology I wasn't sure of. Thank you so much! I'm definitely getting that 1/100 Sengoku Astray now.
If only I had a place for them. Also at least GUNPLAS don't have horrendous mould lines, unlike models from a certain Brittish tabletop wargaming comapny.
My very first kit was a master grade Redframe. I didn’t think it was too difficult, tbh. Ended up painting and customizing it too. Never watched any instructional videos, but did get a couple tips from a friend. If you’re considering getting into it, just do it. He’s right, don’t be intimidated. Also, I do not think you need to start with a beginner kit if you don’t want to. If you think it looks cool, get it. Lol
Recently got my first gunpla, and it's a pretty different one that personally spoke to me a lot more than the conventional designs: beguir beu. I can't wait to assemble it!

Just bought my first kit today. I was at a Tokyo Store at my local mall and saw a kit. I love the Blood Orphans arc and saw the Lupus Rex model and instantly felt I had to have it. I have some experience with Warhammer so assembly wasn't an issue and definitely much easier:) thank you for this video!
I just pre-ordered the Space Command GM. I finished the first gundam series and got instantly inspired to build a Gunpla. Then I realized I had no idea what I was going to do when it (eventually) got here. This video definitely made me feel a bit more at ease, though I’m gonna have to find that little knife you were talking about. Thanks for helping me out!
Once again, thank you for your guide! I was able to follow your guide and tips to assemble my first Gunpla (HG IBO Barbatos) and even half way on my HGUC RX-0 Unicorn (which is more complex). Experience is divine! It's like the best from both worlds: Lego and model building. Model assembly is even more impressive than Lego Technics. As engineer I really appreciate this. Quality of the plastic and instructions are superb! Not to mention the PC-sheet. Why not all plastic model kits are made the same way!? Looking forward to building more Gunpla. And yes, I already managed to get 5 kits so I understand you comment about being broke and having addiction. I ordered one RG from Japan prior watching your video (still waiting for it to arrive) but now I also got 4xHG kits to get started (as you recommended). I grabbed some markers as well so I look forward to your next video in the beginner's series about painting and customizing Gunpla even more. I will have to watch some anime as well to understand what this is all about :D So far I don't know much about this. It's as you said: anime, space, robots, cool. I hope to dive in into the universe and I hope that characters will make more sense for me as well as I will be able to pick my next Gunpla kit based not only on the looks or colour scheme. Have you done any or plan to make any guides on the anime series for beginners? I have found several guides online on which way to proceed but I would like to get your take on this.
Quick guide to the anime franchise: Main Universal Century (UC) timeline: Original series>Zeta>ZZ>Char’s Counterattack>Unicorn>Narrative>Hathaway’s Flash(upcoming)>F91>Victory UC side stories (0080, Thunderbolt, origin, 08th ms team, etc.): Watch whatever way you want but these are best experienced after watching the original series Alternate timelines (IBO, 00, Seed, Wing, X, Build Fighters, etc.): Watch whatever you want, these timelines usually only consist of a single series with no relation to any others. No understanding of the UC timeline is needed. Iron Blooded Orphans and 00 are my personal favourites.
12:44 - UC is probably the most attractive setting for most people, especially those that are into role playing games (since the lore and history of the UC setting is deep, lengthy and very involved). It's very complex compared to other settings, which tend to just be relegated to one or two series', but it's very rewarding to get into. The best thing about UC is that you can basically start just about anywhere and still get the gist of what the setting and also what Gundam is like. So from an anime perspective, it is a good entry-level setting (almost any setting is a good entry-level setting, but bear in mind that G-Gundam, SD Gundam and Gindam Build Divers are the odd ducks of the franchise, so they won't give you a very good idea of what to really expect in Gundam).
I've built around a dozen gunpla now but I just saw this video and decided to watch it, cuz why not. Great video mate and incredibly informative and at the same time interesting to watch. I love this hobby now more than ever, and I really hope more people get into it as well, as it's incredibly fun and rewarding. Cheers!

I know right.

Yeah it's because Games Workshop are a bunch of greedy bastards
Yeah when compared to other things like anime figures and figmas they're really cheap the quality on almost all of them are great too so kudos to bandai

@@rio-ob3ee well, a year later and I’m deep in the rabbit hole. I went from HG kits to RG kits to MG kits (that I love building). PG kits just too expensive tbh.
I like how there's a random Rei and a random Minako thrown in between those Usagi stickers.
this might be one of the clearest guides to a possible new hobby/piece of entertainment i've ever seen. i've been interested in watching people make gundams for a while now and i always guessed that doing this myself would be not only a hassle and a waste of money but also would require me to do all kinds of things like painting which i honestly couldn't see myself ever doing, but the first 4 minutes alone completely quashed those worries and now i feel like i could try it. it's not like i need another hobby on top of the ones i already have but they all have in common that it's like putting together puzzle pieces. i don't know if and when i'll buy a set but this video has definitely convinced me to do so.

Yesterday midnight I just got into Gunpla thanks to you! I spent LITERALLY 22 hours learning about the hobbies I want to finally start doing and my passion for film.

Quick guide to the anime franchise:
Main Universal Century (UC) timeline:
Original series>Zeta>ZZ>Char’s Counterattack>Unicorn>Narrative>Hathaway’s Flash(upcoming)>F91>Victory
UC side stories (0080, Thunderbolt, origin, 08th ms team, etc.):
Watch whatever way you want but these are best experienced after watching the original series
Alternate timelines (IBO, 00, Seed, Wing, X, Build Fighters, etc.):
Watch whatever you want, these timelines usually only consist of a single series with no relation to any others. No understanding of the UC timeline is needed. Iron Blooded Orphans and 00 are my personal favourites.
Yeah boy! Finally it's here!
Sorry to keep you waiting 😅 hopefully it was worth the wait!

Thank you! I like to think so as well
This video was great and really helped me to decide to buy my first Gunpla! Currently building the HG AMS-119 Geara Doga!
Nice video! Probably should have started with "What is Gunpla?" then moved onto misconceptions? Let the viewer know what exactly the topic is?
Hmm maybe lol good point
My first Gundam show was G-Gundam lol. But then I watched IBO when it came out and now I'm getting through SEED.
