Love ya, Tommy. You were one of inspirations to get started in the trades. I have 3 weeks to go in electricians school in Chicago. You guys have always been important to me.
same applies for inner angles.thank you so much.ive spent an entire day cutting angles for cupboards by trimming a mm at a time.now its easy peasy thanks to you
Tom, you are absolutely amazing! I’ve been watching you for about four months. Your videos have been helping me redo our deck. when I tore down the deck I decided to keep the existing posts which were twisted from the weather and not exactly 90°. I didn’t realize how much of a mistake that was until I came to a point where I was installing the top railing at one corner and I couldn’t cut it at a 45° angle because of the twist and bad angle that it was in. I watched this video and now my railings are fitting perfectly even with the bad angles and non 45°. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Tommy, I wish i wouldve had a master teacher like you Wouldve made being in the trades so much better, though i still love it Thanks for everything, pal
Tom, this works, I used it for my deck rail, odd angles at both corners. I posted a video of the results. That’s the third rail I installed to get it right.
I like what you did, good tutorial. But, I think you should have mentioned to turn the second piece of moulding upside down from the other. I really enjoy your tutorials.
If you watch carefully he does turn it upside down for the second cut, but yeah he did forget to mention it. Also, I'm not sure that this trick would work for inside angles.
I went through the same problems with figuring out the exact angles with the old home I renovated. Not one corner was the same, the house had shifted that much.I eventually bought an angle gauge.
You forgot to mention that when cutting your 2nd piece of trim you flipped it upside down. Not sure if a beginner would catch that & it could result in a little frustration. Just an FYI
Brilliant idea. That is an external corner, what technique would you use on an internal corner ie to fit the moulding on the other side of that test piece. ?? Could use that info.
I suggest u get an angle finder ,its way easier ,prob in the range of 5-10 dollars but will save u a lot of time ,just by the cheapest u can get ,it should be enough
Hello, this old house; been watching your show for many years; I have a question; I built an 8x10 shed and all is good except for the triangular window on the gable front; the roof is 18 degrees or 4in 12 pitch; I cannot for the life of me figure out how to layout the cuts on 4x8 sheets of plywood;; I cannot seem to get the cutline long enough to make the cut necessary to get the 18-degree pitch; hope you,ll consider lending some advice be well thank you, Patrick P
Tommy, how did you figure that out? Is that an old carpenter's trick? Is your brother a mathematician. I've seen too many crazy solutions from you. I'm getting suspicious.
I guess that will work if you only have to do one cut in your life but I figure if you're going to do two or more might as well buy the right tool you'll save more time and if you got to keep cutting pieces of wood you're probably save some money too
hello I Have To Make A triangle Using Three Different width Boards So How To Calculate Or Cut The Angles Of Each Side ? If Someone Could Help It Will Be Greatly Appriciated
These shows never gets old. Never get tired of see these.

The MASTER in his domain. Great tip Tommy! 👍👍
Your technique very easy,bcuz u r amazing
I wish I started out in construction with tom Silva as my teacher. He knows all the tricks.

It’s crazy how we have all of this material on demand! Plus is in high definition too.
Tommy, after all these years of teaching you still the man!
Tommy,
I wish i wouldve had a master teacher like you
Wouldve made being in the trades so much better, though i still love it
Thanks for everything, pal
Very handy tip! I can't tell you how much time I've wasted trying to cut accurate angles...
I'm wasting time right now on angles. Rrrrr. Frustrating
Can you do a video on inside angle?
Tom, this works, I used it for my deck rail, odd angles at both corners. I posted a video of the results. That’s the third rail I installed to get it right.
Amazing trick. Proof that you don't need fancy tools to get the job done.
"What's that?" Lol! I thought he was about to say don't challenge me, this thing works!
This was perfect for me today! I was able to make the cut I wanted, and it was perfect!
Love Tom!!!! Heck all the guys and gals on the show.
Tom, out of all the videos through the many years this ones my favorite. Adorable. I always learn something
Tommy is a great teacher. Thank you sir. Great tip!

Great direction and video. Of course being from the Mumbling Midwest, I had to hire an interpreter to figure out what Tom was saying! LOL!!
Tommy's the man!
What's that? You don't have one of these?
Brilliant, thank you. Great video.
DustyFingers I saw him pull that out and thought, “seriously? Who owns one of those?!”.. and then the punch line..
I went through the same problems with figuring out the exact angles with the old home I renovated. Not one corner was the same, the house had shifted that much.I eventually bought an angle gauge.
Love watching Tommy!
He gets these impossible miter cuts perfect, everytime!
Ask T.O.H is the greatest.
Hard to find good videos on this. Yours is one. Thanks
Best way I've seen yet tom!! So when can you come over for some beer and remodel my kitchen? Lol
You are my newest best friend. Thank u for info!
easily & beatifully explained
You forgot to mention that when cutting your 2nd piece of trim you flipped it upside down. Not sure if a beginner would catch that & it could result in a little frustration. Just an FYI
Excellent point! I noticed the same thing after trying this myself. love these Videos! Tommy is great !
Thank-you for that... As important as the Video... !
I used a sliding bevel and a protractor works a treat.
You saved my day. Thanks a lot.
now thats a great short instructional video !
Still my all time favorite video
Best in the biz!
Necessity is mother of invention.
Glad to see this. Will apply imediately.
THANKS TOMMY!
👏👏👏👏👏 that's for you sir very cool trick this kind of angels is a pain in the butt specially doing granite back splashes
Just saved me a contractor!
This is a pro-tip if ever saw one!
your guys are perfect, I really love the channel and enjoy watching new videos
Thanks Tommy!!
Great method! Thanks for the tip Tom.
Cool trick Tommy
great tip! Thanks for sharing
So did you have to flip the other piece of wood upside down
So funny! Oh you don't have one of these 🙂. I"m dense - will you please do the same video on inside angles?
Great video thanks
LOL @ the editing!
Thanks Tommy 👍👍
That was awesome Tommy, thanks!
Brilliant idea. That is an external corner, what technique would you use on an internal corner ie to fit the moulding on the other side of that test piece. ?? Could use that info.

Very useful and handy tip ,👍👍👍
Great tip knackers!

great tip......as long as you have material on hand
does this work for inside corners
Well done
Thank you
just in time! Thank U! perfect 👍👍👍
How come I’m just hearing about this now.
Thank you
Neat! I had no idea.
It's May 2021 and I'm not wasting an inch of lumber.. I'll get the protractor thing. Thanks
Awesome tip
This is awesome!
What’s that? Ohhhhh . You don’t have one of deeeeez.! Love it.
lol been a carpenter for years , I never knew that tip .
Thanks so much!
And that is another reason why tommy and norm are considered master carpenters
You are a genius.
Wow 😮 nice 👍🏻 tricks of the trade 👌🏻
Is there an analogous way to do this for inside angle??
You’re a badass - love this channel
Pretty cool!
Tommy, how did you figure that out? Is that an old carpenter's trick? Is your brother a mathematician. I've seen too many crazy solutions from you. I'm getting suspicious.
basic eculidan geometry
Very basic, yet we are still here.
Some kind of geometry theorem like opposite angles formed by a line intersecting two parallel lines, are equal angles.
Tommmy the 👑
Its funny. I have the same tool, two of them, and I dont use them very often, either
Simple and effective. :)
And this works with big base moulding (6") that can't stand on edge to cut?
thank you for sharing your ideas 🙏
That's some mastery witchcraft
I guess that will work if you only have to do one cut in your life but I figure if you're going to do two or more might as well buy the right tool you'll save more time and if you got to keep cutting pieces of wood you're probably save some money too
Does this work the same for inside angles
Prefer the old method than those fancy tools
Mr and how do you find an interior angle would you pls show me
Rufino Tellez the same way, just cut the angle the other way on the molding
Great for an inside corner but how do you do an inside corner that is not 90 degrees.
Nice job.. thanks for that tip..
KISS, always best.
What about the inside corner?
Good thing Tommy paid attention in geometry class when the rest of us didn't.
what about an inside angle, Tommy?

What did you use to get the blood off of your saw?
nice, thanks
But don't get me wrong this guy got some talent I watch all his how to video
