    Thank you for making this play through. I was reading the master edition book and just could not understand how it worked because I’m a visual learner. This helped a lot thank you.

      Glag it could help! Yeah, the best way I've learned ICRPG is by sitting down and playing which is why I love these small little trials.

    I really like how you did this! You did a fantastic job turning the little dice demo into a full gameplay tutorial. Even more so, you weaved in roleplaying aspects and adjusted the rules to fit the narrative. Great representation of the ICRPG mindset!

      Thanks! I really love the trials and I mean to redo this demo one day since I've gotten a little better at recording but I would agree. Trials are such a good way to learn the game. Should be included in more system, in my opinion!

    I would have loved a little more discussion of exactly what you want people to notice about how the system works, and the context in the beginning of what the trials are, and what will be highlighted.

      Solid feedback. Since this was one of my first videos I’ve definitely considered going back and redoing this trial video. I’ll definitely keep your suggestions in mind to make it better 😄

    I really want to dive more into this system. I don't really know why I don't see this system used more. Maybe it's because it's an idie-RPG and Runehammer has already released the Master Edition a while ago. Whatever the case. I love this and please make more. Thank you!

      You totally should! ICRPG has become and been my go-to system for the last several years. Hopefully as more people find it for the gold mine that it is, it will spread. Have you gotten to play it yet?

      @@julians.2597 Yeah and by the looks of it this game truly is great. Just its core "effort" concept alone is the most brilliant thing to happen to d20 games in the past 20 years. Plus the index card scene concept is really nice and, combined with their artwork, truly gets elevated to one of the best things I've ever seen in TTRPGs!

    Hey thanks a lot! I wanted to see a good example of the trails, this was great. I was on the edge of my seat when he was going up against Weapon 13!

    This helps clarify things. In my first 2 run-throughs of this scenario, I burned to death in my cell. I forgot about attempts following a failure becoming Easy and I never would have thought of forgoing the Attempt roll and going straight to Effort.
    I am surprised that you considered fire Basic damage. I called it Energy. I couldn't find anything definitive in the book. In some places it's D6, others it's D10, and in at least one spot, it's D12, so it seems to be whatever you want it to be.

    • @KanesKiln
      @KanesKiln  2 роки тому +3

      Glad it helps! Making things EASY after failing and immediately trying again is a great way to reward persistence. Plus once they successfully pass the attempt, the question of "Can they do this thing?" is gone and so you just apply Effort without a need to reroll another Attempt.
      As for the fire, my thought was it was just regular fire and so I kept it at BASIC. A magic-infused or supernatural fire would probably be bumped up to Energy, but you're absolutely right. It's whatever you want it to be. In my case, keeping it at basic would allow for a few extra turns to break out of the cell before I succumb to the fire. It would definitely make things hard though!

      @@KanesKiln Question for you: after watching the video, I decided to check out the VTT. The images you are using here (cards) are not a part of it? They are a separate purchase? At a quick glance, I couldn't seem to find them.

    • @KanesKiln
      @KanesKiln  2 роки тому +2

      @Craig Williams The cards I used came from the Index Card volumes by Runehammer. They're available on DrivethruRPG here: www.drivethrurpg.com/m/product/201214
      There are four volumes but most of the cards I used came from Volumes 1 & 2, I believe.

      @@KanesKiln dumb question time:
      the PDFs come with 4 images per page. How do you (for lack of a better word) cut out each image? Just grab and save them as individual images?

    • @KanesKiln
      @KanesKiln  2 роки тому +3

      If you purchased them through DriveThru, there should be an Online Play Kit that has all the images already separated out. But in a pinch, I just use the snipping tool on my Mac and snip out a copy from the PDF. Makes it easy when I am working in Affinity Photo and I can just snip the image I want and drop it in to keep working on it.

      I know those are available in the Online Play kits from CORE on DriveThruRPG. I also know you can get them on the Runehammer Patreon for $1, plus a ton of other goodies. Best and most generous patreon I've ever seen haha.

      Thanks! Perhaps one day! I'm just getting started making resources for the Shieldwall and ICRPG Community. I found a bunch of videos of another guy doing ICRPG solo runs here: ua-cam.com/play/PLyPyGD5WdzvJXm5YFfL49NxlKKE9l0IVX.html if that helps. They're a couple years old but still good stuff.

    As a solo player, I'm really interested in trying this system out. I wonder about the progression system since it's all loot based, any thoughts/ideas on how we could randomize or sprinkle in some spice for solo play?

    • @KanesKiln
      @KanesKiln  2 роки тому +5

      I don't do a lot of solo play myself so I wouldn't come close to being an expert, but what I do know about ICRPG, you have a lot of options.
      The most obvious option is just rolling on the loot table after every session. Switch up which table and you'll have hundreds of options.
      You're also not just limited to loot. Stat Bonuses and Milestones or tags are all viable options. You could follow the progression path from ALTERED STATE. That has a really good cadence between the various options.
      Additionally, you could seek out specific challenges and scenarios to earn specific things. 2E CORE had a few examples of quests that each character type could go on to claim a unique piece of kit that synergized with that character.
      A lot of options and I'm sure I'm missing most of them. The forums might have a few more suggestions or players who are more experienced than I am. 😁

    Would you mark off a Mastery box for the Stealth roll of 20 at the end, or is that only done on an attack roll?

      Any Nat 20 would get a mastery point. I’ve also seen GMs count Nat 1s as well

    What is weapon 13 rolling against to hit the main character? Defense or the target number?... Edit I found it, p26 of master edition bad guys roll against 10+character defense

    • @KanesKiln
      @KanesKiln  8 місяців тому

      Yep! If the character has a Defense of 14, the monsters roll against that and try to meet or beat 14 to hit that particular character.
