Best bits of the Aerox 9:
Comfortable fit in the hand
Fast charging
Insane amounts of buttons
Slick design
Grippy matt ABS finish
Worst bits:
Battery life
Price
My thoughts:
The SteelSeries Aerox 9 is a great option for MMO and MOBA gamers but FPS players may well struggle with the button layout. It's large and comfortable and has some satisfying button action with the benefits of being IP54 rated meaning that it should last and last.
The battery life isn't amazing and I felt like I needed to plug it in more than the other models I've tried, BUT it also has fast charging and you can turn up the battery saving options if you want to. I think it's one of the best MOBA mice I've seen.

Razer Naga Pro, a seriously awesome mouse with some nifty specs. It's cool because it comes with swappable side plates, which basically means you can customise the number of buttons on it depending on what game you're playing - whether MOBA, MMO, FPS or other. Nifty!

weird because I can only play fps games with the 12 button set up.
Was thinking that comment was a bit weird. I think FPS, in fact, all games are easier to play with 12 side button mice like this. Can't imagine using a normal mouse again.
Same
@@walkout85 true honestly almost every game I use them all. just so fair the only games I play with my mouse are usaly fps games or maby mindcraft or servival games. other stuff I use controller. like monster hunter or gta
I benefit greatly from additional buttons as well. Especially since changing to a steam deck as a main desktop PC which is better with additional macro keys and whatnot.
This mouse is a fps sim player paradise
Ive used the Naga for years for lack of a better option. I despise the pinky rest but for some unknown reason all the 'MMO mice' seem to for some reason have this. Because of this alone the Aerox 9 is a godsend for me because it has a regular mouse shape.
That aside I've had issues with the Razer. This is my 2nd one of the same model, the first one I had to replace pretty early on because of faults. The second one lasted about 2 years but I get regular issues where sometimes I have to reconnect the side panel because certain side buttons stop working. But now my main left and right click buttons have intermittently stopped working too.
man, I get that side buttons not working thing to.
I've been legitimately looking for someone to go "the aerox 9 is great" but for everything that says it's fine there's 5 review's saying the side button layout is akward/bad
@@Leon-nk7sp well I got mine now, been using it for a couple of days. Bit of an adjustment from the razer the button grid is a lot longer / more stretched out than the naga. I wouldn't recommend it for people with small hands. That aside though the buttons feel really good quality and satisfying to press. I prefer the scroll wheel on it too. It's easier to use the wheel button and not accidentally scroll which is what used to happen to me with the naga too
@ev6ke The Aerox 9 is definitely the bigger mouse, the Naga is way shorter. However the naga is wide (thanks to the hated pinky rest). The Aerox 9 has similar dminesions to a Logitech G Pro, but it is taller off the table.
? "godsend"? LOL, I don't think any god would gas. Ha, ha...
Did you ever end up trying Aerox 9, can you recommend it?
Holy shit, this is the exact kind of video I've been looking for.
After 2 years, my Naga Pro has stopped functioning as well and the charging functions aren't as good as they probably should be by this point. The Aerox 9 really caught my attention since I only use the 12-button panel on the Naga, and I wanted to get something similar that wasn't from Razer. After peeking around at a few different options and watching this video, the Aerox 9 will most definitely be my next purchase.
12/10 video, gave me all the information I needed. Thank you so much for posting this!
Any update on how the Aerox 9 compares to your NAGA PRO, man?
Please share any pros+cons of the Aerox 9 compared to the NAGA. What I love about the NAGA is:
1. The RAZER software which switches macros automatically on the fly when I move from App to App (Photoshop to After Effects etc)
2. I love the Hypershift button, doubling up the macro commands.
3. Also, the pinky rest of the NAGA helps a lot with comfort for your hand.
I'm not sure Steelseries Aerox (or other mice options) might have the same features....so I never tried switching...
Yea, the dude helped me to find out where the wireless connector is... It was hidden in the mouse.. I was looking for it in the box, but since i mainly use the cable i just left it assuming that i need then somehow pair it with bloototh or wifi.
@@eladbari Great question! There are different pros and cons with the Aerox 9, but I will say I'm still super happy with it.
Pros: SUPER lightweight, and the honeycomb design makes it really nice for sweaty hands. Battery life is PHENOMENAL comparing it to the Naga. The left/right clicks feel much easier to use while gaming too.
Cons: The software is...kind of a pain in the ass to navigate, and some of the settings don't save once in a while. Not a huge dealbreaker, but definitely not a good thing. I personally don't care for how the side buttons feel SUPER mushy, and it's so much easier to click the wrong button by accident.
Unfortunately, my Aerox 9 ended up dying on me last month, so in the meantime I've gone back to my Naga, and I'll be getting the Naga Pro V2 in the next coming weeks. I came to realize that the Naga's button layout, weight, pinky rest, etc. is honestly what I've been the most comfortable with. I'll have to come back to this thread once I get the new mouse and give a new review, and I hope this helps!
@@doctor_radical feel this comment validates my recent purchase of the naga v2 pro, great mouse, I came off a G600 which lasted about 27 months, its the middle-click that gave out and started not registering inputs.
I really hope Logitech comes up with something in the Wireless MMO mouse space especially since Corsair and Steelseries have entered it.
@MrSnakesMC you'll regret the naga v2 pro when one of the buttons on the side panel stop functioning like mine. I now have a perfectly functional mouse thats useless because the '2' button no longer works.
you dont click the sidebuttons of the razer naga, would you say the razer naga sidebuttons are easier to press? I find that when I flick the mouse on the razer naga I accidentally press the button
The naga buttons are way softer (and easier to accidentally press). The scroll wheel on the Naga is also looser and easier to accidentally roll while trying to press down the scroll wheel button.
@@Zeratul199 this is actually a benefit then because you can get serious fatigue from thumb pressing the side buttons. So your saying the aero has hard to press side buttons?
@@Carlito.undercover not hard for me, but definitely harder than the naga
i wish i would have noticed the roccat nyth when it came out. that one looks really interesting, but i can't find one anywhere.
Damn, I'm tempted by Naga Pro, I just don't want ANOTHER separate software just for mouse, when I'm already using G HUB and Armoury Crate
Thanks for the comparison.
I've been using a Naga mouse for years and today I found out that the distal and middle phalanges of my index- and middlefinger have grown slightly twisted over the years. I never noticed it before, but when I compare my right and left hand it's pretty severe.
I noticed that you use the exact same type of grip as I do and was wondering if you experience the same thing.
damn. I deserve that for all the Diablo and WoW I have played, but luckily enough I've been spared. I guess you put in the sweat where I threw in the towel
I guess weight doesn't really matter for a multi-button mouse like these two right? Just personal opinion.
For MMO/MOBA probably not, no.
I don't normally lift mice when using. So, I am not bothered by one heavier than another. If, the mice glide well a heavier mouse is more controllable. I think.
Well, it does matter a lot to me, but my case is probably very personal. I used a light mouse for months (CoolerMaster mm711, < 60g) and came back to WoW this week. Brought back my old G600 to the table and it feels extremely uncomfortable. I'm also a fingertip grip guy, so i is probably even more uncomfortable because of that.
Anyways, not having a superlight MMO mouse now in the market is a huge bummer for me, but I do agree it probably doesn't matter for the general public. Aerox 9 is wireless and way lighter than the G600 tho, so maybe I will switch to steelseries soon enough.
i bought the aerox 9 & regret it. not for smol hands.
bought razer naga v2 hyperspeed. also regret but better than aerox9.
been so many years but im still praying for a light/wireless g600.
Worst part of the aerox 9 for me was that the holes go half way up the left and right mouse buttons, so I'd often be pressing down on the grills, which is just not comfy at all.
@@nickpea319 absolutely agree. so bad. i swear they did not test the mouse with anyone before making/releasing it.
Thank you SteelSeries! I always wanted a mice that dust and stuff can fall into freely.
2 years with Aerox 5 and zero problems with stuff and dust falling inside. Interior is splashproof btw.
side buttons too digonal. why not put them in a square grid?
i've never been a razer person but something possessed me to buy the naga pro, and after an RMA because i somehow ended up with a used one that someone stole the extra side plates and replaced them with three of the same side plate, i finally got a new one in and i absolutely love it. i only use the six button plate, but it's the way my hands rests on it that's perfect. it's a great mouse, i'd prefer a laser, but it's super comfortable. i hope they keep developing the naga series. i never expected to like a razer mouse, but i really have no interest in using anything else now. i'd be interested in different side plate designs for sure, but i have no complaints about the six-button plate honestly. it seems kind of big, but it's not especially. i've used other mice where i seem to get lost on them they're so big, but this is perfect. it's actually a pretty small mouse, but it's flat and your hand kind of just swallows it up like a catcher's mitt or something. it feels perfect to me. i can reach everything just fine. i ditched the feet and installed some ceramic mouse skates on it and it's so much better than stock. had to tune the lift off distance a little to compensate for the taller feet, but at least that's an option. i wanna use those feet with every mouse i buy and some mice just ain't having it because of the increased distance to the surface.
I’ve had four razer naga pros I’m on the v2 pro now. The buttons on the panel always eventually wear out for me and don’t register anymore when pressing them.
Mine was doing that for like 6 months till I did a driver update from the Razor website itself never had an issue since.
Overall Great Revew :) Thanks
this is my 2nd naga and it feels like after a year or so of use not all clicks are registering anymore for the side buttons, which is a pain in the ass for MMO's :/ Can you make any comment on the longevity of the Aerox 9? Both of my naga's have had similar issues. First one the right mouse click stopped registering correctly now the side buttons are not registering.
This is the exact reason i wont ever buy another Naga after my Trinity had the exact same problem after around 1,5 year.
I know the Naga is a good bit heavier than the Aerox 9, does it feel overly heavy when you are using it? I generally prefer lighter mice.
I don't think it's "overly" heavy, but that's very subjective.
Naga a little heavier but your snaps on kills is way smoother because the weight’
Do either of these options have a free spinning wheel?
No
Naga pro would be the perfect mouse if they just chopped off the right side (pinky rest). It is uncomfortable for people with smaller hands.
Uh, the right side 'Rest' is - A Ring Finger Rest. You must have mini hands if you hang a pinky on it. My large hands and my pinky isn't even close. Take a look at it . Learn to hold it. I'm getting used to my ring finger not dragging and I can still grip the mouse. Razer website even describes the rest, 'clearly.'
then get bigger hands
I know by ppl razer naga has problems with connection and malfunction ?
I have everything from Steelseries from Apex 7 to Arctics Pro but my 6 years old Naga Epic just works perfectly and I feel I should reward it with loyalty and not get a new one haha
That's how I felt used a naga epic for about 7 years so it was a no brianer for me to buy the naga pro, but it died after 8 months, the buttons stopped working and synapse is still kinda bad compared to steelseries and corsair
@@DG3GT OG Naga mouses were amazing, all the new ones are hot garbage. Also Ive been going through Scimitars like socks lol
@Walhor yeah I made the switch to the Aerox 9 and it's my favorite mouse ever, the Scimitar was great though, got about a year out of it
@@DG3GT That's great to hear, Ordered a Aerox 9 recently and should arrive soon
I was a big razer fan, had a naga Epic since 2015 and it's still going strong, upgraded to the naga pro and it lasted about 8 months. Also I've had problems with synapse briefly resetting my devices mid game so they just kinda stop working and the rgb shuts off for a moment or so. Haven't had any issues since switching to corsair and Steel Series, again could just me a me problem but I'm happy with the switch.
Did you ever have a problem with the middle scroll wheel mouse of the Razer NAGA Pro? (Was it V1 or V2 you had?)
+Did you switch to something else?
@eladbari i had the V1 amd not so much the scroll wheel but the left and right click and the 12 side buttons honestly i dont believe Razer's products are bad, mine was probably just a dud, but I'vehad nothing but problems with Synapse over the years, right now I'm using corsair Scimitar mouse and I love it just not wireless unfortunately.
@@DG3GT really? wow. So the Synapse software itself gives you problems? So weird. I wonder how.
Yeah it's either Aerox 9 or Scimitar, and I hear more problems with organamics with the Aerox. But, I just wonder if the Scimitar's software automatically detects the software you are in, and swaps to the Macro settings you specifically set for that software. As Synapse does that very nicely. And I didn't wanna give that out.
Also didn't wanna give out the ring-finger support design :)
So far I have yet to see in any of these MMO mice, a textured grip on the right side of the mouse! This is a major mistake as you need to grip the mouse to pick it up during play. Very important. Why do all these companies make this mistake? If there is a mouse that has this let me know please.
Im shocked you have not looked at the Naga V2 pro... its much better than the V1
cool mousepad, where did u get it
Amazon
which one would you recommend
I liked them both but personally prefer the flexibility of the Razer as I like playing FPS which is tough with so many buttons
i wish theyd release a version with just 6 buttons and no removable plates
Hex is the closest Razer mouse there is even though it's 7 side buttons instead of 6
Naga pinky rest is extremely painful and mechanically nonsensical, no comparison. Pressing with thumb against pinky is horrible. Aerox is the literal minimum requirement design for MMO style pads
Razer screwed up with the Naga Pro by not keeping the same button layout as the Naga Hex had.
trinity has that layout if needed
Too bad the aerox doesn’t have rgb for the side buttons
I don't give a freak about the clicking sounds a mouse makes. I Do care about the software that comes with the mouse for programing the macros. Why is it almost none of you talk about this? As it is extremely important. If the software does not work well the mouse is useless.
That's in the review
Aerox 9 side buttion is heavy and bad quality while in Naga it's much easier to click.
Cba bout the wireless , im just gonna play with the usb c on
Just saying I use the Naga Pro for Fortnite and I am crazy good w/ it...
I use the 12 side buttons as well. So.... idk
You're a pro
UtechSmart Venus Pro is superior to both of these
Lmao ok buddy
