    I love your jacket. I have a lot of fat quarters, which I received within a subscription box. I'm not gifted with ' putting colours together ', however I feel that I should just have a go making my first patched fabric and quilting. Thank you so much

    OMG, I would have soooooooo kept the points in the collar but nonetheless, I love everything about this coat! The color, the Japanese elements with the Sashiko stitching.
    I’m also looking around for the pattern so I can make one for myself, thank you for sharing!!!🙏🏽

    It is a beautiful coat you have made. I’m just starting to cut my squares in blue and white linen to sew together to make the fabric. I’m going to try and make a Chinese style jacket. I’m also going to quilt like you as I go. Thank you for the tutorial.

    Fantastic video!!! I have a pattern and fabric ready to make a jacket, but I was looking for how I could sew it with quilting / patchwork. Thank you very much for the best explanation and showing how to do it. I'll start with an easy pattern from Know Me 2058

    I have never made a quilted jacket or coat but want to make one. Your video has given me the information I needed to begin. The pattern I want to use is for wool fabric and I'll be using cotton fabric. I figure with the batting and backing it would be the weight of wool. Your coat is fantastic.

    Is there a video on how you altered the underarm seam? I struggle with the excess bulk in that area.

    • @OnyxArtStudios
      @OnyxArtStudios  8 місяців тому

      If you create a new seam, and then trim it- it will get rid of bulk.

      @@OnyxArtStudios I saw on UA-cam how people are taking sweatshirts and added quilting or fabric to them; some are also altering the sweat shirt to become a jacket, made longer, etc.

      @@OnyxArtStudios Hi, I'm using a pattern from Indygo Junction, Trench Topper IJ740. It's about 10 years old. I'm also using leftover jello roll strips. I think I'm going to go get muslin tomorrow before I waste all the fabric I've pieced. I used to sew clothes but haven't in a long while. I don't know how to attach a photo here.

    I’m currently working on a quilted jacket pattern using 3” squares , I’ve only got the fabric sewn haven’t laid the pattern out yet. I’m using a vintage Simplicity pattern 5191, it has a flare at the bottom and is mid thigh length, collar or hood included. 1 &3 any type of fabric but view 2 is for fur fabric. Just wondering if I should use the pattern for the fur fabric as being quilted will make it thicker?
    Thanks for a great tutorial!!

    • @OnyxArtStudios
      @OnyxArtStudios  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much. It might be a good idea to do the fur cut since it will be bulkier with the quilting. You can always take it in if it’s too big, right? I always error on the side of too big. Good luck! Will you post it somewhere? I’d love to see it.

    I have been wanting to do this for awhile. I am so excited to find your directions to save reinventing the wheel.
    Is there a reason you chose to use poly batting?

    • @OnyxArtStudios
      @OnyxArtStudios  2 роки тому

      thanks so much! I had a bunch of batting in my stash and it happened to be poly.. It is lightweight and dries easily (although I'm not sure if I will wash this coat much) I'm sure you could use cotton batting too.

  • @Amritadivya

    Question: Doesn't the hand quilting shrink the fabric a bit? How do you account for that?

    • @OnyxArtStudios
      @OnyxArtStudios  2 роки тому

      Good question! Probably a bit, the pattern was big for me anyway so it was fine. It was a true outwear pattern so I think that it is meant to have some wiggle room and fit over clothes. Also I tried it on every step to see how I liked the fit. I ended up taking it in at the underarm because it was too boxy for me. I would say, it's better to go bigger and then trim than to have something too small. What pattern are you planning to use?
