Wire Wrapped Pendant - walk through

  • A start to finish walk through on how to wrap this pendant.
    .
    Wire used: all dead soft copper
    Frame-
    20g square
    21g half round
    22g half round
    (you can use 21 or 22 for both parts on the frame)
    .
    Attachments-
    20g round
    24g round
    28g round
    22g half round
    .
    I had no intention originally to upload this to UA-cam. This was made for members of a FB group named "wire weaving". It is incredibly choppy because I had to cut so much of my rambling on. I edited out about half of what I recorded.
    It is an incredibly amateur video, but I still hope it serves its purpose in helping the people that asked for this.

    I didn't watch this at first because I am learning and looking for tutorials not walk through, BUT I wish I had this seems more like a tutorial. You may get more views if you change the title to tutorial, because I learned ALLOT from this! Thank you for making and sharing it! Have a great day!

    Beautiful piece! This video is a gem in itself. The breakdown of the components you showed, makes this a inspiration for creative thinking. I have seen this piece in my feed since I started wrapping, but didn’t watch (foolishly on my part) because it looked to me, out of my skill level. Of course it was at the beginning. But if I had watched, even when I didn’t have the skills (still learning), it would have taught me so much! Thank you for sharing, your beautiful art ✌️❤️

      I use my basic traditional dewalt drill that i use at work. I would think a simple black and decker may work fine for this as well though. As long as you have a chuck on it that you can open and clamp back down on this wire your all set. I have another video on just twisting coils that may show the drill a bit better.

    Extremely helpful. For the figure 8 weave, may I suggest pushing the ends of the guide wires together and continuing the weave, as if you were making a bale? It would cover the 'hole' on the side, making it visually even more pleasing, prevent splaying of the weave in the future and I think it would make it easier to make the wrap happen. Let me know if you try it and how it works for you. I will try some of the other techniques that you showed in this video for myself now.

      Thank you. I was really confused by your suggestion. Always open to tips and feedback though so I was trying to understand. The design calls for it to widen on the front to cover all the connections... but are you talking about bending back at the edge of the pendant and narrowing back off to cover the space on that back? Cuz that actually sounds like a good idea. Otherwise though I'm lost lol.

      @@sethedelinski348 Thank you so much! I’ve made this pendant yesterday, I’m satisfied but as perfectionist I’ll want to make more until I “master” it 😎☺️ the only problem I’ve had is to make second coil with the first using my drill: it was so hard to keep them close, and then I had to push them tight together, the base wire was banding 😬Almost gave up, but I’m stubborn 🤪 I guess I need to practice and learn to coil with drill more! 🤓

    • @SingingSwanMedicine
      @SingingSwanMedicine 3 роки тому

      Sorry, Seth, but I’ve to ask you one more question: before you make second coil on 20ga, do you take first coil off the 24ga, or coiling with it!? Somehow my coil is coming out on the end of 24, when I’m making second(final) coil. I’ve made coil on 20 with 28, which got off the 24 and it looks pretty nice. Not sure if you can understand what I’m saying ☺️When I make coil on 20, do I remove 28 coil from 24? Hope that make sense?! 😉 Thank you 🙏 😊

      It can be a bit tricky. I do have another video on making a coil on a drill. Worst case scenario, it can be done by hand as well.

    My wire keeps breaking off at the drill. What am I doing wrong?

    • @sethedelinski348

      If your talking about the core wire there are a couple things it could be. The main and most common cause would be pulling back to hard on the drill and/or the swivels are catching up every so often. It can be easy to miss if they are always spinning when you are actually looking at them. Too much back pressure is the main cause for swivels to be locking up. Also don't pull on the wrapping wire too hard as to not create too much pressure on the core from that as well. Hope this helps.

    Thank you for this tutorial! I can’t wait to try it after I order more wire and stones. What size stone is used for this particular piece? I’m afraid to go too big and not have enough wire at the end. Thank you again so much!

      I'm not sure exactly. Its under an inch tall (maybe 3/4). But most pictures I have received of people using this tutorial have used much larger stones. You would just need to adjust the wire lengths.

      How tall is the bail? It looks like you wrapped up about an inch or so

    • @sethedelinski348
      @sethedelinski348  3 роки тому

      Yeah maybe an inch, I keep the bail pretty short so it hides behind the coil pretty easily.

      To prevent any liver of sulfer from damaging the face of the stone while oxidizing the wire.
