Is it really a standard practice? Definitely not as it can be seen clearly that the riser if each step is greater than treader ! In fact this practice though profitable for the fabricator it will be very inconvenient, painful and risky especially for elderly members of the family for day to day use. The ideal riser shall not exceed 20 cm(8") and tread width not less than 25cm(10"). for each step. In the event of excessive floor height one mid landing is recommended. Even reducing the floor to ground level height to some extent by providing conveniently constructed base pedestal of masonry or concrete will be one of the best and long lasting solutions to decrease floor height.
