First Time Using the BBQ Vortex Charcoal Basket | I AM A FAN

  • I recently acquired a BBQ Vortex charcoal basket and have been seeing folks cook some delicious chicken wings on their kettles with it. I had a large pack of chicken thighs so I wanted to try it out for myself.
I have the Weber Char-Baskets already but the Vortex has been a great addition. I'm a fan of how it keeps all the heat central in a tighter area so I can do more indirect cooking across the grates compared to using the larger Weber baskets. Build quality seems solid and it keeps the charcoal going for a long time. I would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the encouragement! Are you local to the Bay Area by chance? Might be offloading one soon. Awesome product, but may be selling my kettle grill.

You Sir, are as real as it gets! 😅 love your honest videos. I just got a Weber Performer a few weeks ago and am loving it so far. My model doesn’t have the propane, but I’m having fun with the charcoal chimney. I don’t have the actual Vortex yet, but I just put the baskets back to back in the centre..worked well for now. Chicken wings were awesome, I was finally able to get crispy skin! Smoke on man! 👍

Lol thanks and CONGRATS on the Weber Performer. And those two charcoal baskets inside are pretty clutch. I just wanted to see what the hype was all about so I wanted the Vortex too. Let me know if you end up posting any vids!

@@HuSmokin yeah I’m glad that this model came with the charcoal baskets and better quality grills...such an awesome unit. I’ve watched many videos about the Vortex. It’s pretty versatile, but I’m debating if it’s worth the hefty price. My Kids are always trying to get me to do a video lol

Keep up the good work on different ideas! My general chimichurri recipe is using equal parts parsleys and mint with just a bit of oregano. Sometimes I'll throw in some korean style pickled jalapeños as well.

I also have one of those wood scrapers I bought some time ago from Costco and the tip is to a point and works really good! But HomeDepot has a scraper with heavy duty plastic bristles that you could use when cool. I seen a thing on the internet that some lady almost died from ingesting one of those wire bristles! Cool video and always interested in what your up to next……good job!

Oh that’s awful about the lady. I think that’s what I read about as well. I’ll have to check out this HD plastic bristle thing you’re talking about. As always thank you for the encouragement!

The chicken looked awesome. There were some dark spots but.. I love the dark spots.... definitely be the chicken I would reach for. I always probe the smallest piece of protein, so if you know what the temp is on the smallest... you know you still have time for the larger ones, if you probe the largest... the smallest get a little over done... good thing that was dark meat to give you a larger window of 'done'. Take care... editing is for chumps!

Haha yah I reach for those first too, but great advice here. Not sure why I probed the biggest thigh anyways. Editing is for chumps! 😂

Hey Rick sorry I guess my response to you never took. What do you mean? Just run the foil across the grates? Haven't tried that one before.
