    Did this same thing a week ago and they were phenomenal. My only suggestion, which we did, put a big chunk of cherry, apple or mesquite wood right over the Vortex on the grate. Excellent smoke and flavor! I used Apple this time.

    Family loves vortex chicken wings and you have a great store. It’s so nice to have a local bbq store with knowledge and supplies!

    My favorite thing about this video is the vintage and condition of the Weber kettle. A mixture of lot of use and care as well. But not too much care lol.

    Tip. Instead of the chimney starter just load the vortex with charcoal. Just make sure to put your starter wafer, tumbleweed or whatever you use and light it first.

    I don't even flip them. If I'm going to brush on sauce, I do it at 40 minutes then let them go another five.

    Question, just to confirm, you used a medium size vortex for a 22 inch weber kittle? Is that right? If not please advise about the proper vortex size for the 22 weber kittle

    • @andersonbbqsupply
      @andersonbbqsupply  Рік тому +2

      Correct, Medium vortex for a 22” Weber Kettle

      @@andersonbbqsupply I have an 18'' Weber Kettle so would you recommend a small size Vortex? Also, is lump charcoal easy to light? Never used lump charcoal before.

    Great video! Have you known of any grates that got warped or damaged by the high heat of the Vortex?

    • @andersonbbqsupply
      @andersonbbqsupply  Рік тому +1

      I haven't heard of any grates doing that. I could see that if you ran the vortex often, it could happen eventually to any grate you use. These weber grates are pretty cheap though, so I'm not worried about my webers.

    Wanted to know when you took the wings off could you have used the same fire to start another batch of wings. Because that's not enough wings for a football game with the fellas.

    • @andersonbbqsupply
      @andersonbbqsupply  7 місяців тому +1

      Yep, absolutely. You could get two or three sets of wings out of the one chimney.

  • @vikingpitbull
    @vikingpitbull Рік тому +2

    Why not just skip the chimney and just use the vortex and light it in that?

    • @andersonbbqsupply
      @andersonbbqsupply  Рік тому

      You absolutely could do that if you wanted to. It's a little tricky to light it from underneath the charcoal grate. But you could light it from the top too, it would just take a little longer to burn down to the right temp.

    • @vikingpitbull
      @vikingpitbull Рік тому +5

      @andersonbbqsupply I fill it halfway full, then add a tumbleweed , light it, then add more charcoal on top.

    You said to save on charcoal you closed the vent, are you planning to add more charcoal to it for your next use???

    • @andersonbbqsupply
      @andersonbbqsupply  Рік тому +2

      I'll add as needed. I'll put the slightly used charcoal back in a charcoal basket to re-light, and new stuff on top if needed.

    I heard you're supposed to rotate the lid 90 degrees every 10 minutes because there's a hot spot under the top vent because that's where the heat vents out.

    • @andersonbbqsupply
      @andersonbbqsupply  Рік тому +1

      I could see that, not sure I ever put the lid back exactly the same way, but definitely something to think about.

    Are you really going to use more than half a canister of rub for eight wings? What a waste.
