The slow burn is what makes Salem's Lot so good imo. Seeing the town slowly fall to darkness through the eyes of townsfolk where you know what is happening and they don't is just brilliant

4:13 Organized politics too---especially religious states like I...

I know this is off the subject, but I remember reading. I think it was a two star review of the book, it. The person reviewing it said that the book just started off too slow. You know because a child murder followed by a hate crime is slow paced.

Love this video dude!! Can easily see you doing this for every book, or at least your favorites.
Your reaction to @5:59 cracked me up - “There’s a ton of filler sections of just random people from the town?…” 😧🤨😒 Those are my favorite parts of the book, too!! Sorry it’s not a nameless gore-fest the whole time.
I suspect that 1 star reviewers don’t read or finish the book, have the wrong expectations going in, or have some kind of political/religious/cultural axe to grind.
For me, I love Salem’s Lot, especially the second time I read it. You can feel and hear the New England weather around you the whole time, but when Ralphie starts scratching on the window to be invited in? 🥶🥶😶‍🌫️💀

I believe Corey Taylor said it best in a lovely little poem off the album Iowa (which is where I reside)
    People = Shit
Salems lot is a fucking classic
Even my fiancé liked it and she doesn’t like king very much

Great video as usual Dave. ‘Salem’s Lot is my all time fave King book and I’m always amused by reading 1 star reviews of things and the ridiculous complaints people have - the ‘random filler sections of townsfolk’ bits of ‘Salem’s Lot are the absolute best!
It’s a totally creepy read and I’ve recommended it to several people as their first King.
Btw, I think it was me who suggested reading a 5 star review at the end, really cool to see that taken on board, nice to see the other end of the spectrum haha.

currently reading salems lot with only 100 pages left. it’s definitely slow paced and i asked myself more then a few times how long it would take for things to really pick up but WHEW, when things get going there’s no putting the book down. the evil in the town trickles down to everything and it’s perfectly frightening. i’m appreciative of the world and character building

I love Salem's Lot, I like that the Vampire element is a background presence feeling Barlow influence throughout the town. How the Marsden House has defined the Town. More importantly how many people are actually quite nasty with a few good Souls. It's defo about small town politics and the people who live in this town.

I am very glad that I am not one of the people who don’t find joy in reading Salem’s Lot. It was my absolute favorite Stephen King book for a long time, and it’s firmly in my top 3 favorite Stephen King books.

Salem's Lot is definitely on my TBR, but I've yet to read it.
How long (on average) does it take to read a SK novel? Given that they average 700-1k pages, it takes me about a month to read his longer works, which kinda puts me off starting them.
I love his stories but I think I am a fairly slow reader.

It really depends on you as a reader…but I think his longer works are generally worth it!

I gave it 3 stars. Felt it was boring for most of it. The romance stuff was just crap I had zero interest in the main characters. I don't mind kings long books when the characters are entertaining

Reviewers can be so hyperbolic... Probably 4.5 out of 5 for me. I think I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads. If you keep these videos coming, I'll keep watching them!
