When doing subtractive EQ with logic stock remember to hold (shift, command or ctrl.. cant remember) so that the eq you are subtracting stays on the frequency you want to subtract. This helps you avoid changing the frequency cut when subtracted. Or just write -3db into the eq. I think you have to hold the button down before you start dragging.
Man your video was very helpful! so i got my sm7b some weeks ago and after i connected the microphone i was wondering why it doesn't sound like the big streamers or something. And your explanation was a big gamechanger for somewone like me who has zero knowledge abot this compete scene. So after i combined your settings with some of my own my audio sounds much better then before. So very thank you!
I recently started using a noise suppressor I actually got a free one because most of them, you have to buy, and I was definitely willing to buy one but this bertom was free. It's actually a really good tool, and i've used it on guitars as well
Great video thank you! Thinking about getting the new sm7db but not sure if it’s worth it or if I should just find a used sm7b. Thank you for the video
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m glad to help. It really depends on your setup. The SM7B takes a least 60db of gain to drive it. So look up the specs of your audio interface. If it doesn’t provide that much gain, then go with the SM7DB.
Mine just came in last week and I been spending my time wisely trying to find a good editing set for my sm7b. I learned to just work with what I can and my editing set I have now works very well but kinda choppy and it kind of brings out the white noise only a little bit. I know it’s possible to have a very crisp and silent vocal setting
@@homestudioacademy another tip I got from @podcastage is rather than soloing a narrowband boost to sweep for problems. Use a narrowband cut and listen for where the overall sound gets better as you sweep.
I have a question. Im using Logic Pro x the latest version. I'm experiencing a problem when using logic, whatever track I click on, the volume just goes up and down on its own randomly. I watch a lot of your videos because you have been extremely helpful to me! has this ever happened to you?is there anyway you can help me fix this problem?
I’m glad you found my videos helpful! 😊Unfortunately, I have not experienced that issue with Logic Pro. I wonder if you can contact Apple or Logic’s support about this ongoing issue. To be honest, I don’t really update my operating system until I absolutely need to so I don’t have issues with my plugins compatibility.
@@oceanlovesmusic that’s an original song of mine called “Give Me Love”. I wrote and copyrighted it a couple of years ago but haven’t released it. Will probably release this year. You can here more of it on my other tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/gx9r1wDlKIk/v-deo.html

this video is helpful, but, I'm still confused as to if I should still follow these guidelines if I'm printing with plugins like Avalon 737, the la-2a , and the 1176 while performing the vocal? just wondering if I should compress again as u demonstrate even tho I'm already using serial compression?
@@fuego448 I’m glad you found it helpful. If the signal is already compressed, I would just the DeEsser and corrective EQ and that’s pretty much it. Of course, nothing is set in stone, do what sounds good to you and the project you’re working on. 😊
@@homestudioacademy Yes I downloaded it and got it working. When I clicked download in the brands app it said “demo” but then that went away so I think I have the full version for free. May have just been a bug
NO - DONT LOOK FOR ANYTHING. USE YOUR EARS!! Your video is directed towards beginners and is really misleading. Also nothing in this video in specific to the SM7B it´s just the most standard processing of vocals
Not misleading at all. Yes, a lot of concepts are made for my target audience (beginners) and from experience, I find very hard to tell someone just staring out to “just use your ears” when they don’t know what to look for. Anyway, I just shared my thoughts and how I mix this mic but feel free to disagree 😊
Except, beginners don't know how to use ears yet. They don't know If the problem is in lows or high mids. So their best bet is to "look for problem" and every microphone is different and requires a different treatment so haveing vocal mixing tutorials dedicated to a certain microphone is a good thing.. you hating for nothing 😂 wth
It does have less than most mics due to the more neutral high end but these are just principles for beginners. Trust me, I can sound sibilant on almost any mic 😂

Getting a cloud-lifter may help minimizing the hiss. Another option is the Waves NS1 Noise Suppressor plugin.
