  • How do you glue the sole of a sneaker or shoe back on? In this video Doc shows you his trick for instant show repair. When the sole of a shoe comes off or shoes separate, many people turn to SHOE GOO. However, Doc prefers this shoe sole repair method. www.howtowithdo...

As a cobbler who glues a dozen shoes a week, i use the contacts cement. Works well. Just a tip, he said it briefly, but its very important, if the surface is porous (cloth, crape, leather) you need a second coat, after the first drys a bit.

This is the method the use when they MAKE the shoes! Manufacturers don't want you to know how to repair them properly like this because you won't need to buy a new pair.
    Thanks for the video. :)

You got a point, I am looking for the type of glue they used in factories which I saw in many videos for more than a week, it's like a white glue but I can't find it in any stores so I sorted out to used contact cement like this one but different brand, it is really strong, it is almost 6 months now I can still used my repaired shoes well.

Dude, thank you! I have a pair of Vans that I abused by skating in them and the whole sole came off except for the heel. I used the contact cement and they’ve been holding up for the past four weeks and they’re still going strong! Respect, brother👍🏻

Great stuff. I also repair my own shoes but i do it a lil different. First i apply acetone on the upper and the sole and heat it up with a hair dryer to losen old glue and then wipe it off. After its clean of old glue then i apply glue specifically for shoes. Works ok but the process is longer, yours is shorter

Thanks, Doc. I just used the Contact Cement remedy to glue a rubber tread (the toe ) back onto my wife's favourite golf sandals and it worked perfectly, just as you have so aptly demonstrated. Since I had Shoe Goo on-hand I also made sure there were no little gaps for water to penetrate right at the toe. I think we have a decent repair and want to thank you for your help.

Glad I watched your video. I love to go bowling and while I was playing in the bowling alley yesterday half of the sole of my sliding foot shoe came out. The first thing I thought of was to purchase a new pair of bowling shoes, but my husband said why not glue it?. I asked with what? So, here is UA-cam for the answers. I'll purchase the glue and follow your instructions. Thank you so much. You just saved me some money.

Because Shoe Goo builds a permanent bond (as oppose to contact cement which is not permanent and comes loose under heat), I am sticking to Shoe Goo (with masking tape and rubber bands during curing) for fixing my separated sneaker soles. I am sure many will find contact cement works well, It's just a personal choice.
    Thanks for the video.

Wow! I have used contact cement on other projects and never thought of using it for shoes and he’s right that it glued to itself. Now, I’m going to share a miracle. The shoes I now buy that will never come apart is called ASICS.I don’t know what they use but the sole NEVER separates. I run a sprinkler company and deal with shoes a lot and this issue has always frustrated me. You might ask why I need to glue if I’m buying ASICS. Well, I buy other brands to run around in and when they get older I start using them in sprinkler work and they eventually come apart so the contact cement tip is something I’m going to try

If your in a hurry Gorilla super glue works and lasts a while. You have to keep everything clamped down tight and I like to trace the seam one more time after the 1st round has dried. If there is any crack to be filled I fill it.
I may try shoe goo also.
Years ago just the rubber part wrapping the toe tip eventually came loose but by that time they were pretty much shot and needed replacing. I just dont remember shoes coming apart while they still looked new years ago.

  • @rednoise0

I agree that Shoe Goo isn't good for this type of repair, for the very reasons you mention, that it doesn't stick unless you can keep the pieces clamped together for many hours (hard to do with shoes.) Shoe Goo is decent for other kinds of repairs, especially holes, or breaching chunks of a sole that has fallen off.

That's why it didn't work for me??!! Lol. I didn't bother to take any time to read or follow instructions!
And they say men don't use directions, I beg to differ!! We made them out to be wrong Doc, or backwards anyway. I thank you, my shoes thank you and my feet are going to be over joyed not having the killer job of breaking in a new pair so soon! Today marks the rest of my days, as the beginning to always reading instructions and following the directions. I really thought there was only one way, the ole' apply and stick method and even throwed the rest of the brand new bottle in the trash, literally thinking it was just a fluke bottle that got by the QA's in production. So I was just going to buy another and try it again, oh how glad I am to have seen your video. So I'm one that is glad it's not about the lawn!! Thank you Doc and God bless!

I have tried the goo and he is exactly correct........if you cannot keep pressure on the two pieces being glued, it will not work. I used a 12 inch concrete block on top of mine and it still did not seal properly. On top of that, it makes a mess that is difficult to get off your shoes when it runs out the edge. These were just yard shoes that I tried it own but I vowed never to use it again.

Anecdoite: I'm an American citizen, but Ilived in South America for ten years. While there, I initially had great difficulty finding contact cement. The problem was in the name. Down ther they cal it "Goma zapatera" which literally means shoe rubber or shoe glue..

Well done video. I find it very poor when you look at what you pay for these sneakers sometimes hundreds of dollars I have never had a pair wear out they all fall apart like in the video. One wonders how intentional is that? Use poor quality glue in a couple of years they will fall apart. We can then sell them a brand new pair?
