*Restoring Taylor's Character*
The judge's ruling in this case is more about restoring Taylor's _character_ than determining Ridge's _wife._ Only Ridge can decide the later but in explaining his legal reasoning, the judge sets the terms for the former. Note how he says that Taylor's explanation for why she married Omar and stayed away (her "sacrifice" for Ridge and the children) is the thing that proves her character and the judge believes her motives because of _Ridge's_ description of her character. This is the show telling us that Taylor's sacrifice must be validated and honored for her Good Girl archetype to be restored. And since Ridge is the one who vouched for her character, he must also be the one to complete the validation. If Ridge chooses Taylor, then her sacrifice meant nothing: she will become "the wife" again but not the Good Girl. Her old role will be restored but not her old archetype. Ironically then the only way for Taylor to regain her Good Girl-ness is to lose her wife status, for Ridge to honor her sacrifice and choose Brooke. This is the paradox that Taylor put herself in with her actions and while the court ruling seems to buoy her, the judge is actually laying the groundwork for her eventual loss.
Great analysis! I made a related post on why this outcome is necessary to restore the narrative balance. And your comment also ties into what I said a few days ago that this ruling is necessary in order to untangle Taylor from the whole Omar mess which so damaged her character.
And you also point to a fundamental truth about the Good Girl archetype - sometimes she is actually _better off losing_ because her winning would be at the expense of her "goodness". (This is why, for example, I don't understand the sentiment that in the rivalry between Brooke and Taylor, Taylor is justified in doing to Brooke what Brooke did to her. To me, if Taylor "wins" over Brooke by using Brooke's methods - for example by being the "other woman" - the person winning actually isn't the real Taylor but _Brooke_ in Taylor's body, which is not something I would like to see if I were actually rooting for Taylor.) In order for a Good Girl to win in a way that feels "right", she has to win _without losing herself._ A Bad Girl doesn't have these constraints, which is why we can cheer her on regardless of the methods she uses (case in point, Sheila). But a Good Girl can't even be Bad when dealing with a Bad Girl without a _lot_ of justification in the writing in order for her to remain Good.
Basically, it's what the judge's "unclean hands" discussion is all about - he's basically making a decision about Taylor's Good Girl-ness, and deciding that yes, her archetype was damaged, but there were extenuating circumstances (the three reasons I listed in my other post), and because of those, it can be restored. And then, as you said, Ridge ultimately saves it by honoring her sacrifice.
Thanks Nick and Annie, because it really felt like a moral win for Taylor. And I can understand Ridge's choice here, less his lack of emphaty. I like that she is polite and analytical in her behaviour which distances her from Brooke and she looks more in her previous self.
@@babs4848 yes, this does feel like a moral win for Taylor. Unfortunately the show will undo part of that by the misguided attempt to pair her up with Eric (which is clearly a way to have her replicate Brooke's storyline), so she's not quite back to her old self. We still have to endure that storyline.
The 3 of you have explained it beautifully. Some closure for the preceding long and unnecessary fiasco.
I agree with you 100% with you on this Nick! However, when Taylor said that she was sacrificing herself for Ridge, she was not being honest with herself. For the first time in her life back in the palace, when she saw Ridge and Brooke together, she felt defeated. Therefore, she gave Ridge up at that point of her life, not because of self sacrifice but out of defeat. The good girl status has gone out the window..........

@@hraslan I can't understand if you're concerned about Eric or about Brooke in your post. Or mad at Taylor. And btw, Eric will never know she lustfully cheated on him in the lab. Taylor was moved by a dead man( if we have to take it seriously) and wrote a letter. Brooke was already a mother and she didn't give a da mn about her family.
Because, both women have cheated as equally, as Ridge has played both of them, up until the current, Steffy, Liam and Hope story line. Basically, a repeated history, but with their kids, involved. I much prefer these classic episodes. @@babs4848

*Why the judge's ruling is the only possible outcome*
Whether or not one agrees with the judge's ruling, Brooke and Ridge's marriage being declared invalid is really the only thing that makes sense from a _narrative_ point of view. This turn of events was even foreshadowed on their wedding day, with their marriage being _literally_ "built on sand". This metaphor was very clever because on one hand the sand castle wedding was beautiful and romantic - a true fairytale wedding, but on the other hand it had this feel of a dream or a fairy tale because the wedding _was_ a dream, in the sense that it _wasn't real._ So in terms of storytelling, it needs to happen this way. It also fits with the elusive quality of Brooke's pursuit of Ridge - how he is always just out of her reach.
Of course, whatever the judge rules, the decision is still Ridge's. If he wants to stay with Brooke, he can. The judge is really not the one deciding on the futures of everyone involved - Ridge is. But what the judge _is,_ is a representative of story logic (that is, the "laws" that govern the B&B universe). He determines how the _impersonal_ laws of that world works - the "rules of the game" so to speak.
And in this sense, given what I said in episode 2080 about the "double commitments" of Taylor and Macy, the judge's ruling here also sets a precedent for Macy's storyline (which is about to be resolved). The judge comments that Taylor has "unclean hands" but still wins for three reasons: She made the commitment to Ridge _first,_ the made the commitment to Omar _while her life was in turmoil through no fault of her own,_ and she did it _out of concern for Ridge._ Since the judge has established these "rules of the B&B universe", Macy can _also_ break her end of the deal with Anthony without being "punished" by the narrative, because the three factors that determined the case in Taylor's favor also apply to her, and so she is actually still _playing by the rules,_ making it possible for her to "win fair" in spite of having "unclean hands."
I'd said a long time ago it was interesting their wedding was on sand with sand castles...
The thing is, Brooke's reaction is typical, but she's not being practical... There's no way she could ever be legally married to someone who never terminated his previous marriage.
Great analysis. Enjoyed reading it.
Oh that's such a good point about the sandcastle symbolism! Thanks for reminding us. You're right that that setup had to be paid off here. There was a sense from the beginning that the wedding should not have happened (because Taylor was alive) and the court ruling is attempt to set that right. The messiness of Ridge having two wives, remarrying when his wife was still alive, could only be cleaned up legally this way. In a sense it's like the messiness of Brooke having a child each with Eric and Ridge, which can only be made clean by both kids having the same father (the upcoming Bridget paternity reveal storyline).
@@NewYorkNick0607 yes, this whole episode has a meta feel to it, as if it's the writers trying to untangle all the complications and messiness of the past year and restoring some kind of balance on the show. The judge is, in a way, speaking directly to the viewer and telling us how to interpret the storyline (Taylor is in the right despite having "unclean hands", Brooke is "blameless" _in this storyline_ - foreshadowing her 1996 Good Girl phase - but still is in a marriage that shouldn't have happened). And then Ridge will further restore the balance by ending up _not married to either woman_ - allowing for a "reset" of the triangle.
@@annieo6527 YES. That's a great point about the "reset," which is an ideal way for a soap (a show that never ends) to clean up a mess. In a story with a definite ending, you could do something more radical to wipe the slate clean. Hamlet for instance opens with the body politic being diseased and corrupted by the poisoning of the king and the usurping of his throne and marriage by his brother ("Something's rotten in the state of Denmark") and by the end of the play, all the main characters have to die (including Hamlet) so that the state can be cleansed. Similarly on B&B, the arrival of Brooke "corrupts" the royal Forrester family and poisons the family tree with a similar in c e s t u o us ness (marrying and having kids with father and son) and she even usurps the family business! Since a soap never ends, a radical slate-wiping isn't really an option but the writers can instead make use of a reset between storylines -- here in this case by pruning the family tree (making Eric Jr and Bridget both Eric's kids) and restoring relationships to factory settings (Ridge not being with either Brooke or Taylor).
Brooke Forrester is legally Ridge forrester's wife I don't care what that judge says or the law says and she has every right to be upset her children's lives are going to be turned upside down and Taylor don't give a damn
Judge has made his decision in accordance with the law ... now what will Ridges decision be ??!
Thanks for the great episode 🙏have a great weekend from Florida 🛥️🐠🌴🌺🌊
I see Eric borrowed some of James’s hair grease.
Taylor Hayes knew damn well when she was doing I don't think just because they declared you his Legal Wife that he'll walk away from Brooke Logan Forrester who he deeply loves you're the third choice not the second Taylor Hayes Carolinas Ridge first love Brooke is Ridge second love and you most certainly come in third place😮
Ridge will choose Brooke because of the kids lol
Taylor fans make this same post daily yet this is not what is playing the man stayed w Brooke was supporting her yesterday and some say oh but he will stay bec of the kids. He stayed bec he has moved on and bec Taylor married Omar so she also moved on (regardless of the justification she gave).
@@hraslanyou know why we keep saying that? Because that’s literally what Ridge says out of his own mouth. He tells Taylor in episode 2545 that the kids were the reason he stayed with Brooke because they needed him more than she did. That’s not just our opinion it’s what was actually said.
@@lil_jon411Ridge says a lot of things .His actions speak louder then words.
@@-Lily7415 how convenient. When Brooke was living with Eric and wanted ridge to wait the few months before she moves out ridge instead rushed to track down Taylor even when she told him to leave her alone, and proposed to her. Even though he “claimed” to love Brooke yet didn’t want to wait and proposed to another woman so what do his actions say there? Even when he was married to Taylor he refused to leave her even though he thought Bridget was his, yet when he finds out about thomas he left Brooke to be with Taylor so what does those actions say?
@@-Lily7415 "What Ridge said about his own feelings doesn't matter." 😂😂😂
Ridge divorced Taylor
Good, Taylor deserves better anyways. Hope that creep stays away tho, oh wait he doesnt🤬
Brooke doesn't end up having a legal marriage to Ridge until after Taylor dies the second time. I could feel sorry for Brooke if she wasn't so vial to Taylor but she's incapable of compassion or empathy.
At least when Ridge and Taylor were married, it was real.
At least when Taylor gave him children, it was is REAL children. 🤭
@@sharonstewart4882Sharon he did not end up staying w her. So did it really matter? Nope sad as it is.
@@hraslanThey were married till death did them apart twice, and had beautiful kids that didn't need paternity tests. Tridge fans feel blessed. Good for you that you enjoy Brooke's unending chase of destiny.
I really hate one Taylor Hayes once I put on that innocent look like she's so innocent but she does sneaky things on the side and underhandedly behind people's back especially to her so-called husband Ridge Forrester
How is no one not talking about Taylor's face of secondhand embarrassment/looking like she's holding in a laugh at @19:04??😂😂
Is Taylor wearing extensions of some sort?
I think everyone wears extensions, especially now!
stephanie and eric have a son in prison who they apparently have forgotten about nd arent even trying to help get out....
The only one who is happy is Taylor. Ridges face says everything.
In fact he can ask for divorce. But still Taylor is his legal wife and Brooke is ranting for anything.
Really u can read Ridge's expressionless face, WOW !!😳
All this anguish Brooke is goin thru is cos of Ridge !! If he wuld man up and make a decision, Brooke wouldn't b this upset. Almost a decade of knowing and doin Brooke he still unsure. He's currently sleeping with her and still doesn't know if he wants her or not. Wat an amazin love story, destiny at its best 🤣 !!
@@ambika66681where did it play that currently he does not know if he wants to be w her?
@@ambika66681 Yes, I am a good face reader😊
He is married with Taylor for 3 years and loved her very deeply and can't decide to leave Brooke and go back to Taylor... what a super couple😂
@@annette74 🤣😅😂....he's known Brooke for ages, sleeping with her,has family with her but still unsure of her, they are no supercouple, never will b a supercouple☺️
hahaa this is awesome taylor and ridge should always be together
Thank you. ❤❤❤
Taylor Hayes knew damn well when she was doing she didn't care she just wanted her selfish reason she wanted to be free and she wanted to what break up somebody else's family Taylor Hayes is selfish😮
I don’t even know why they’re doing it for the kids nothing really works for the kids if you go back for the kids it’s the relationship that’s not working has nothing to do with the kids and anyways these kids belong to his dad he’s the uncle for heaven sake’s the father doesn’t even visit the two kids of Brooks I don’t even think he acknowledges them until they’re old enough to work in the business is so funny
Rigde is not the unless, he is the half brother of Brooke's children.
And Eric never cared about any of his children, only momentarily when they are useful, benfiting him or they gave a purpose to hold on to a women or in busisness area.
Brookeho invaded so many marriages and gave away that kitty to so many husbands only to be butt hurt when her “marriage” is taken a part. 😂
That hypocritical 304 is for the streets 😂
Ridge looks like he's dazed, when in fact, this is his fault. He always leaves women hanging. So, this is a consequence he should be accountable for. Furthermore, he could have simply made the decision once Taylor returned. Taylor should have also asked him what he wanted before going to court. In the end, he's asked to choose. I believe when it comes to this choice, he usually chooses Brooke. I said usually. I know he chose Taylor in the early 2000's, only to leave her for good after he found out about her brief affair with James.
Oh no, Brooke lost custody of her man-child Ridge. How sad...😂😂😂
Maggie’s outfit???? Looks like pajamas?!!! 😮
And as per usual Ridge shows no emotion…stunned mullet!
Who does Ridge want is the question? But he must be following what the judge says. He can't think for himself. He can divorce Taylor and marry Brooke if he wants
Poor Brooke. That man and Taylor only bring trouble. I regret as i heard from people here, this damn triangle will go on for decades. So no improvment in the soap from 1984 till now or since the character of Ridge left the show. Why didnt the writer givevthe characters a new direction? Of course this was a success bringing topic.. but for decades??? Annoying
You're in for a crazy bumpy merry go round with these 3.
Don't cry Brooke. It's just a title with no substance. He stays
Brooke has other relationships in that time and the show was better for it. More drama and excitement. Ridge even gets jealous lol
@ozsteve969 Ridge having a heart attack was a highlight for me 😁😁 too bad she went back
I can't wait for when they find out Bridget isn't his and Brooke loses her marbles. 😂
It's good that Prince Omar refers to Taylor as her namesake, not "Laila."
Stephanie ask Eric to stay and talk about Ridge and Thorne….they only talk about … surprise surprise…Ridge 😜
No it has nothing to do with the kids, its what hes always wanted his truth, his belief in his love for Brooke,! And his DESTINY!!💖💖💖💖💖
Now I've watched 2082 episodes, watching several episodes every day. Bold and the Beautiful - 1995 (S8 E331) FULL EPISODE 2082 These episodes are from 1995. Why do I have to wait for a new episode every day here on UA-cam? Since they are from 1995, I will never finish the entire series as long as I live with only one episode per day.
Ikr. I feel the same way. I started watching during the pandemic, and at that time, I could watch episodes after episode . Now it's not worth the wait, so I'm on to Dynasty season 4 on Pluto TV. I let B&B episodes pile up. Sometimes, I forget to tune in😊...1 episode a day
Now Brooke has obviously studied law so that she can tell the judge what is right or wrong. This woman has an unshakable ego🤣
When Is The Bold & The Beautiful Season 13 Starts
When Is The Bold & The Beautiful Season 11 Starts
It's very noticeable that Brooke and Taylor's dress colors were swapped 1:1 in this episode. But hey, the pink still suited Taylor better.
When Is The Bold & Beautiful Season 14 Starts
See I knew it. Ridge's marriage to Brooke is invalid because Ridge and Taylor are still legally married which also means that Taylor's marriage to Prince Omar Rashid is also invalid and not binding as legally Ridge and Taylor's is. Does that mean that Prince Omar Rashid of Morocco leaves Los Angeles California and finally returns home to Morocco without Taylor by his side. Ridge does eventually ask Taylor for a divorce so he can legally marry Brooke.
Eric could of prevented Ridge from marrying Brooke by simply telling Ridge, Brooke's mother was his girlfriend in college and mistress during the course of his marriage to his mother, and James Warwick have given him an envelope to give him, which is the evidence proving Taylor is alive.
🇹🇹💯🇹🇹 The judge should hold Brooke in contempt of court!
After all he told her to sit down.
