Love this build. Just a few thoughts to help you maybe. When building your link points, use a scrap piece of tube that is the same width of the joints you are using, to go between the brackets that need to be welded. Then put a .050 shim on either side, and bolt them in. Welding the brackets will shrink the metal. When it's time to install the joints, they will just slide right in, no hammer needed. Plus, the heat doesn't beat on your joints, breaking down the rubber. Also, to help locate the axles, get your square points figured out, then just tack on a nut to the frame, and drop a plumb bob down, and crank on the link until it touches the axle. No need to remeasure all the time. For a plumb bob, all you need is string and a heavy nut to hang down, doesn't have to be a real plumb bob. For the record, I really wish I could be there to help build this thing. I build dirt race cars for fun, when I can. Never built a rescue rig, and would love the challenge. Been a fabricator for awhile, and I've learned from some great folks along the way. Keep it up, yall are doing great
Great ideas. Personally I use lasers instead of plumb bobs, and I superimpose all the Lines of the frame and mounting points down to the ground, Draw it out completey and then its there until the project is done. No need for ten plumb bob lines hanging down everywhere, (2 for axle, 8 for 4 link mounts two each) and the a few high quality lasers will let you check parallel, square and plum lines to infinity across the entirety of the frame in any location, nut just the intersections.
I like how Matt is talking about his various oil coolers on the Jeep and Morrvair. You really can tell a lot about a system by looking at the oil. If it looks clean and clear, it's usually not getting too hot or being overworked. Instead of only checking the levels, or just changing it regularly, monitoring the condition can alert you to problems that are developing.
Ever since I came across Matt's off riad recovery, I've been hook! I have been following the largest off-road wrecker build all the way from Papua New Guinea. I love what you guys do as a family!

I love watching the recoveries and the wrecker build. I think the wrecker needs a diagonal brace from the top of the headache rack to the pivot point of the boom. the lines that lift the boom may bend the top toward the boom if you lift something really heavy.
I know this is a bit late but did you ever install drain valves on your frame rails that you're using as compressor tanks? As we all know compressed air creates water and water and bare steal leads to a bad day later on. drain valves will allow to purge any buildup of water. Maybe you could install an automatic purge system that purges every so many minutes or hours to keep water at bay. Love how the build is coming sofare. keep up the good work. 👍👍

I really enjoy watching the off road wrecker build. With the exhaust I think you should either do side pipes under the cab or run stacks up the back corners of the cab.
I know you know this Matt but the more you change your oils the longer everything lasts...I have a 37 year old Volvo with almost 500,000 miles on the engine and it still runs great..I also have a 94 ford that has 250,000 and it still runs great..My cars last so much longer then everyone else's and all I ever do is change oils (all of them) often..It's so simple with great pay off....!!!...Can't wait to see the big wrecker done and working..Love your show!!!
I loved that Skeeter was protected from that darn sun!! Put a block of ice in front of the swamp cooler...for the sake of all your staff..especially Lizzie!! What is the brand on the sno-cone machine you used?
It's not the winters that kills vehicles, it's that salt they put on the roads. I personally wish they would ban it. Sand and tiny gravel works better anyway.
Matt two steel plates sandwiched with grease or sand between then put under the tires. This allows you to do these adjustment and alignment stuff much easier. Slip plates. Lets tires slide around and not fight you. As always. Great video.
I find myself admiring this build more and more and I can say I am always excited to see the next video. Can’t wait to see it in action but really enjoying watching it come together. Love how everyone is helping also. Takes a village to get a good 4x4 built.

The Power welder sure is small for what it can do! I can’t wait to see the wrecker out under its own power..just a engine startup would energize everybody on a project of this size.
Pick up a pancake hood for overhead stuff, gives you more clearance and leaves the lense itself closer to your eyes so you can keep your neck straighter and still have good angles of visibility. You can trim the top of the faceplate down and it will save your spine, thats what i used when I would do tight quarters overhead stuff. Its also much lighter so less neck strain, nothing like going home after a long day with a mad crick in your neck 👍
I had a craftsman weighted down in the front with chains on the rear .. go up the mountain , drive it in the snow too.. I had a buddy come over we made him one off-road mower .. too That’s when we started racing. In the cow pasture. We rigged them up with lights for night time lol 😂. Racing in the mud ..
Placing the coolers longitudinal could help with heat transfer. If you put them transverse the downwind side gets barely any airflow, and the upwind side more, but still will have quite some stagnation between the fins. Anyway, if it works, it works, they are on the truck already.
Hey Lizzie, I feel your pain. I do a lot of exhaust work. I'm 6'1 and most of what I do requires me to stuff my head up into an undercarriage as close as I can to see what I'm doing. Seeing the tops of the pipes is impossible without a mirror most of the time. Eventually though, you get the hang of blind welds. You're doing great, though, don't be so quick to criticize how your welds look. It's not as much about how pretty they are, but rather how good the penetration and heat spread is. Strong welds are way better than pretty welds (but I'm sure Matt has already told you that). Skeeter, big props for remembering the show "Viper". I was beginning to think I was the only one who remembered (or even watched) that show. I don't remember it ever turning into a boat, but I may have missed that. I love this build, I've watched every episode so far, and I can't wait to see it complete!
Matt, a little trick that I use to square axles and especially 4 link suspension easily (since adjusting 1 link on a 4 link moves everything and things can get off pretty easily) is to hang plumb bobs from frame points to where you want the center of axle tubes to land. Once you know where axle center is on your frame then you can adjust axle to align with the plumbs and square everything up, after that pinion angle can easily be set with upper link adjustment. On another note I would highly suggest some 2.5" aluminum lower links because no matter how strong the DOM tubing is with the weight of your rig they WILL get bent! Keep up the awesome work, you and your team seem like great people and I definitely enjoy the channel!
Another amazing video. I can’t believe how awesome this is going to look. You can already tell as it takes shape. And yes, the MORRVAIR does sound incredible!

Lizzy, I find that if I straddle a sawhorse under me to sit on it makes welding under my rigs a lot easier. This allows me to bend my knees and not catch hot sparks in my lap. Better than trying to stand up and weld with my back or neck bent.
This thing is going to be a beast!! Can’t wait to see it finished and I’ve had fun following your progress. One question….Is the belly pan welded or bolted on? I don’t see a way to remove it for repair or maintenance (like fluid changes) access, maybe I missed it??
@@psychology2217 that makes sense. I commented before I saw that they added the cab lift points. I suppose access plates for drain plugs and such can be added later too.

Hey Matt. You should consider clear coating the bare steel on the back of the wrecker. But it looks awesome nevertheless, you could paint it pink with purple spots and would still be cool!

When building your link points, use a scrap piece of tube that is the same width of the joints you are using, to go between the brackets that need to be welded. No more severe skin damage from excess UV light exposure!
Looks great, Lizzy.
Those Premier Power welders that go in the vehicle are awesome.
Lizzie is killing it with the welding. Keep up the great work.
"Caution Matt It's Hot!" What a perfect sign to have in there! 😂 Another great video guys! I can't wait to this rig in action! 🤘
I loved that Skeeter was protected from that darn sun!! Put a block of ice in front of the swamp cooler...for the sake of all your staff..especially Lizzie!! What is the brand on the sno-cone machine you used?
Time to invest in some air conditioning and a pop up canopy for Skeeter to work under outside 😄💕👍 Great job on build so far
I love the Morvair exhaust noises
I love all of the Morvair.
Rust preventative coating he says for those harsh desert southwest winters! Ha, I crack myself up.
Good job Lizinator! Don't sweat the small stuff and show them how it's done! You got this girl!
When in recovery mode, Matt is like, "We'll get 'em out!". But when it comes to building monster trail wrecker Matt's phrase is, "We'll get it in!" lol
He's a doer alright
Hahaha haha " sure I'm here to help just like the government " 😄 🤣 that's hilarious! I truly feel apart of the MORR family you guys complete my viewing pleasures keep up the great content!!
I'm sure others have said this, but good for you teaching and giving Lizzie the experience to become a confident welder.
Gotta see ed and the golden nugget do some wheelin
Johnny is always a great addition to the team.
It's so cool and interesting to follow along on this build!
Cheers from Northern Sweden 🍻
I had a craftsman weighted down in the front with chains on the rear .. go up the mountain , drive it in the snow too.. I had a buddy come over we made him one off-road mower .. too
That’s when we started racing. In the cow pasture. We rigged them up with lights for night time lol 😂. Racing in the mud ..
Placing the coolers longitudinal could help with heat transfer.
If you put them transverse the downwind side gets barely any airflow,
and the upwind side more, but still will have quite some stagnation between the fins.
Anyway, if it works, it works, they are on the truck already.
Those welders are a game changer, I only recently saw the trailmater video on it and now I have so many ideas 😍
This is an awesome build. But now I'm looking forward to the lawn mower derby.
awesome build , can't wait to see her acting in her naturally environment . Greets from Bavaria 🤩😎
Love watching guys the shows are great, thx for always taking us along.
Good work crew. What a good friend Johnny Boy is.
Does Ed drive the Golden Nugget to the shop each day?
Ed lives in a apartment attached to the shop on site lol
I can't wait to they put that thing on a scale. Wonder what it's gonna weigh!
north of 10K lbs, easy. it's very, very overkill in places.
12,000 lbs is what Matt is trying for.
The tub on that chassis is a nice homage to the MRAP the axles were stripped from.....looks like that thing is almost IED ready! LOL
One of the best sounding rigs i've ever heard, followed by Pauls at a close second.
An exhaust note so sweet it will give you diabetes.
@@wildforesthome6563 unfortunately Paul can’t keep anything running…
@@jasonmalone155oh, I don't know, except maybe a pretty succesfull youtube channel and a workshop that brings in a fortune, and his derby car was usually the last running on the track. The cooling on the FJ was sorted recently and i dont think he has ever not completed a recovery , not to mention all the other rigs. Maybe I missed something, I'm a hardcore MORR fan but sorry to Matt and Paul,I think Rory will take the Gold.
@@johnthomas4229 Brilliant
Awesome build so far Matt can’t wait for the finished product
Lizzy doing an awesome job welding
And the rest of the guys !!
Matt you should clear coat the frame and all to show off all that great welding you guys have done
But that’s just my opinion
More videos please have a great day mate 🇦🇺👍cheers Simon
If you're not first you're last Ricky Bobby
YOU da one!!!!!
Cannot wait to see this thing in action! I can only wish that I could one day have myself surrounded by the type of people that you do. It has to be a blessing to have that type of crew/family that you do, especially in today's time. Keep up the great work and I always pray for yall's safety on all the missions! Can't wait for the next video!
Viper actually turned into a submarine. It was one of my many favorite shows. 🙂
Matt's imitation of "horse"power just made me LMAO.
Great episode, this is my favorite project on youtube at the moment. Can't wait to see this thing in action.
Johnnie's comment about the govt was mint! Had me laughing. Good stuff!!!
Lizzy, I find that if I straddle a sawhorse under me to sit on it makes welding under my rigs a lot easier. This allows me to bend my knees and not catch hot sparks in my lap. Better than trying to stand up and weld with my back or neck bent.
Just got my Golden Nugget Shirt and Decal a day before my birthday! Thanks so much Matt’s Off Road Recovery!
Wrecker build videos could be an hour long and I'd love it.
agreed. I look forward to the next one every time.
This thing is going to be a beast!! Can’t wait to see it finished and I’ve had fun following your progress. One question….Is the belly pan welded or bolted on? I don’t see a way to remove it for repair or maintenance (like fluid changes) access, maybe I missed it??
It’s all welded on for extra strength. That’s why they are making the whole cab top removable.
@@psychology2217 that makes sense. I commented before I saw that they added the cab lift points. I suppose access plates for drain plugs and such can be added later too.
@@cpftank09 Yes, Matt commented that engine oil, transmission fluid, and air tank will all have drains on the bottom.
Just wondered, when it comes time to clean the sand out from on top the skid plates, how are you going to achieve that? Great watching your build! Thanks to you all for the great content.
Compressor and a blow line, cleans anything out of anywhere, ask Paul from Fab Rats. He used it to clear Michelle out of the shop a couple of videos ago
60mph on the highway aught to do it.
@@ADBBuild 60 might be a big ask for this wrecker, think he is going for power and torque. I don't think speed will be its greatest attribute
What’s wrong w sand in a sand vehicle? There r quite a few good sized holes in the skids yeah.
It's the "A" TEAM, LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!😆😍
I used to sweat bullets welding, and it probably was not nearly as hot (Maine summer) as y'all have there! Id be chugging gallons of water too. Get some ice packs to keep in a freezer so you can put it on the back of your neck and in crook in arm at elbow to help bring temps down too. The ice cones sound Yummy!
Great job so far team! Cant wait to see it done 😀
Good MORRning from Canada! Looking forward to a great video!
Good morrning to Canada and Utah
love this build, love the onboard welder! looks great! keep it up
Good afternoon from stinking hot England really enjoying this series about the worlds largest wrecker lizzy doing a great job on the welding you go girl
Hey Matt.
You should consider clear coating the bare steel on the back of the wrecker. I think it looks cool in that raw steel color (colour in my country) and a clear coat would stop it from rusting.
But it looks awesome nevertheless, you could paint it pink with purple spots and would still be cool!
You could get/make a saddle stand and get an old saddle to put on it for Lizzy to sit on while overhead welding........that cowgirl would be right at home!! Skeeter is cool!!.......bet he's a lot of fun!! Overhead welding is tough, so if any of y'all are doing a pretty good job at it, that's pretty darn good.......especially for a new welder!! Love your videos!!
notification squad, Have a nice weekend!🔥🔥🔥
There has to be about 1,000 lbs of weld on this rig.
I kinda want an ongoing "inches of weld, lbs of steel, hours of fab labor..." web page for this build
When MadMatt 4WD sees all those hitches for recovery points his head is probably gonna explode! 🤯
Sometimes looks like you have to much fun doing hard work but can't wait to see it done
Seeing that lawn mower in the minivan reminds me of when my dad got me a 90cc sportsman, we didn't have a truck so he had it in the back of his old explorer. He had to air down the tires just to fit it
Skeeter and Lizzie weld together so often, they are headed for a celebrity mashup nickname --- "Skeezie". As in "Time to get Skeezie".
