    Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

    Quick tip - I was struggling on this for hours but found out my knot was on the other side of the loop. What I did is skipped the overhand knot in the beginning and went to the loop knot and at the end I did the overhand knot and synched it down. Make sure you have lots of tag end though so you can pull it down after tying tthe overhand knot at the end.

    • @FishingPOV

      The reason for tying the stop knot is so that you’re not cinching down so much line pulling the knot tight. That creates friction and weakens the line. Thanks for the comment and good luck.

      @@JustAdude93watch a few seconds at a time. Each time you get a step down rewatch and add some more steps. Ex: watch the first 5 seconds repeatedly till I get that part down solid. Restart and now watch the 15 seconds till I get that down. Restart and then just keep adding a bit that way you're solidifying what you have already learned by blind repitition. Don't be hard on yourself. Practice being as patient as you possibly can. It will increase your focus.

    A uni - knot with just one turn through the loop lies much flatter against the spool whether spinning or baitcasting ensuring better line lay.This knot was originally designed for fly reels where the reel does not throw the line;that is backing to arbor, then fly line to backing.

    I used this to tie my first line to my first reel, worked well, together with a uni knot and a blood knot for the other things. I had a much thinner translucent line though and it almost made me pull my hair off until I managed to tie the knot(s) :-) (I didn't catch any fish)

    • @kiiroMADE
      @kiiroMADE 4 роки тому +1

      Can't get this to work with my braided line though, it always jumps over the first overhand knot because it's too tiny..

    • @FishingPOV
      @FishingPOV  4 роки тому

      Kiirozu I use it with braided as well it’s just a little tougher to tie, don’t forget to use electrical tape on the spool so the line doesn’t slip when using braid. Good luck and thanks for watching.

  • @buckwheat7424

    it leaves a big clotted knot. all you gotta do is thread the line through the eyes of the rod, when you get to the reel, then tie a loop with an overhand knot, by forming a loop make an overhand knot leaving the loop about any size smaller than spool, nickel or dime size is ok, then form another loop by running the line through the first loop ( a slip knot) and place that loop over the Opened bail, in the direction that will sinch itself when you start to reel in the line. you don't want a bunch of knots on the bottom of the whole loaded spool. if you load the spool to full, you don't have worry about getting spooled by a fish.

    • @FishingPOV
      @FishingPOV  4 роки тому

      fastfeh1 well since we are correcting people I think you meant to say tied not tried? And I’ve been tying my line to spools like this for 40 years and learned this knot from my uncle who learned it from his father when he was 7ish and if he was still alive today that would’ve made him 72. He learned that this knot was called the arbor knot, and if you look up the arbor knot online/google you will se that it’s the same knot as I tied. Thanks for watching and have a great new year.

    Apparently I’ve been doing it wrong for decades, I just use the rubber tab on the side of the reel to anchor it before I start to spoon instead of a knot.

    • @FishingPOV
      @FishingPOV  4 роки тому

      Rob Gregory if it works it works. However here is a benefit to using this knot. This know will tighten the more the main line is pulled. Without a knot that cinches down and tightens the line could and most likely will spin on the spool when it’s being pulled on by a fish. It could be unnoticeable the amount but when fighting a fish could end up being why a fish is lost. Thanks for watching and good luck.

  • @leebuck4860

    So if electrical tape is fine when put over the knot once the braid is tied to the spool to stop it slipping then why do some people bother using a mono backing and then tie that to the main braid line?
