    It's knot time!
    What's the best way to attach your mainline to your spool?
    By tying an arbor knot!
    This is a simple knot that will cinch your line tight to the spool and allow you to get started putting line on it right away.
    It's not the strongest knot, but it doesn't need to be because if a fish has you down to the arbor, you've already lost the battle.
    Instead, this knot just allows your line to grip the arbor (the center of the spool) tight so that it won't start free-spinning around it.
    And in this video, you'll learn the 5 steps to tie it quickly and easily.
    Have any questions about tying this knot?
    Do you have any other ways of tying it?
    Let me know down in the comments!
    And if you want the written-out instructions with pictures for each step, check out the blog post here: bit.ly/3n6f3Ho

    I watched so many videos and this is the only one that actually helped me figure it out. Me being slow and you being a good teacher was a great combo.

    I've been fishing for years, I gave up a long time ago with the arbor knot. I would get the line started on the spool the first time and then just do a line to line knot when it was time to respool. Thank you for this video

    This is the 3rd video I watched on how to tie the arbor knot, as I couldn’t figure it out with the first 2 videos I watched. However, I was able to figure it out from your video. Thank you!

    I always wet the line a bit before tightening the arbor knot to the reel, as you mentioned it'is a high friction knot, moisture in the line where the knot slides until tight will reduce heat-friction damage to the line obtaining a much stronger and efficient bond to the reel arbor, thank you for sharing.

    You can always take the spool out of the BC reel and tie on your knot of choice out on the table, which is a helluva lot easier for big fingers and bad eyesight.

    Good morning, greeting from down under. I'm a beginner and a 70 yrs old man, and just want to catch some fresh fish for my dinner. I have a question, can I only use the bread or mono line without leader line for in shore fishing? I mean only river fishing. Thanks for yor advice. Have a good day. Bill

      Use a leader for braid and no leader need for mono unless it is Super clear water

      You always need a leader for every line. You don’t want to lose a big fish.

      @@redlegionnaire4692 malarkey. I fished all my life inshore and fresh water and never used a leader. I only started using a leader after I changed to braid. If you can't play a fish properly then leader isn't going to make any difference imo. I am referring specifically to the type of fishing mentioned by the Australian gentleman.

    • @pakde8002
      @pakde8002 3 роки тому

      Hi mate. I fished all my life in the conditions you're talking about and never used a leader. If you're going somewhere there's a lot of coral or oyster shells then you need a leader, otherwise just match the weight of your line to the fish you're after. Now if you're going for big barramundi in rough areas with lots of trees and rocks yes you should consider a leader but if you're just going for fish under a kilo then you'll probably be okay. But you really should ask at your local tackle shop to get the best local advice.

    What about for braid?

    • @kbone6880
      @kbone6880 2 роки тому

      It always starts with mono even if braid is being put on the reel. If you take it to a shop they will start with mono for this tie and then tie the mono when they start the braid most likely with a Uni Knot.

  • @markrigg6623

    There is absolutely no need for a special knot around the core of the spool. Just an overhand (granny) knot is all that's required. In spite of what is said about "friction". Its perfectly straightforward to anchor the line just with a quick granny knot. I've been doing it this way for 45 years and at work I currently do it several times a day. People overthink things in order to find a reason to create content. I'm going g to show this vid to my colleagues today and it will get a laugh. And I'm not trying to troll anybody, I'm on a mission to correct all this specious nonsense you see on the net when it comes to the technicalities of fishing.

      Idk man, when you buy an Abu Garcia the instructions say to use an arbor knot. These guys do a ton of testing, nothing they've suggested has done me wrong yet. I know plenty of guys that have fished for 30 years and work on charter boats and some of those guys don't even tie their terminal tackle right.

      @@slash09r1 Even big tackle companies get things wrong. The Daiwa reels I sell say "set your drag to just under the breaking strain of the line" !!! Not a good idea. One third to one half at the most is what it should be. So they don't know about inertia! Amazing but true. Do a fancy knot if you feel more comfortable. But it's not a load bearing knot so it doesn't matter.

    • @slash09r1
      @slash09r1 3 роки тому

      @@markrigg6623 where does daiwa say that? None of mine say that, they just say max drag of reel and have a parts diagram sheet. I doubt they would be getting it wrong. I like to set drag close to test strength for freshwater, and have never broken my line. Something like a Saltiga says it holds 100lb braid/ 50lb mono and has up to 25lb drag so that's half at best....

      @@slash09r1 The BG series spinning reel manual says it here in Australia. And not just on one model either. Most of their cheaper models say it I think but I'm not at work now to look. I can email it to you if you don't believe me. But its actually good that you doubt they do it. Because its absolutely amazing and your instincts to not believe it are therefore very understandable.

    This is all very good, however, the line needs to be ran through the eyes first for spooling properly. One does Not want to do such by hand and it will be messed up on the spool too.
