Welcome to the Letterman UA-cam Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.
Fun fact: This “Dave Watches the Re-run” Late Night aired on December 30, 1988. It was at the end of a week of repeats, and there was no publicity beforehand.
I was curious about the date. My first thought was to look in the description, but it gives the date of the original "non commentary" show in '85. 👍 On Fridays, it would have been "Friday Night Videos" in the time slot at that point, IIRC. Hence Dave's comment about them not being on Friday nights in the original bit.
@@MiddleMalcolm LN’s schedule from 1982 to 1987 was Monday to Thursday, with Friday devoted to, first, SCTV, then FNV in the 12:30 am slot. There were occasional 90-minute LNs in 1982 and 1983 that aired instead of SCTV and FNV.
Starting in mid-1987, the LN schedule shifted to Tuesdays to Fridays, with Mondays being a repeat, and FNV following LN on Fridays at 1:30 am, now reduced from 90 minutes to 60.
So when this aired December 30, 1988, FNV followed at 1:30 am.
Thanks Don
10:17 Speaking of surprises, Peter Basil did not appear to be expecting the headset-in-the-chili gag.
Thank you Don.
Would love to see a now gen Dave, (and team) add third layer of commentary on some of these.
This was basically DVD commentary in 1988.
letterman invented the reaction format you found now on youtube
I wish nobody had invented that format.
The pencil throw!!! Classic Letterman flashback💖💖💖. The creative fun that hooked me at a young age. Thank you all for your creativity, intelligence, and comedy!
who are you talking to? Dave?
I think you should show the video about the renovation of the Ed Sullivan Theater with "Say You, Say Me" from Dave's first CBS show. It was pretty damn funny.
They did upload that, in September 2022. It was, indeed, very funny.
David Letterman was able to get away with reacting to old episodes of his show back then. This is why he will always be awesome.
I’d love to see Dave today react to some of his old bits.
Worth the Weight with Al Frisch."I'm stumped..." low budget comedy gold
All of these years later, and I can still taste Hal's chili.
love dave king of late night
The cigar and the recliner David...was there a drink anywhere...love the way you lie
Dave did the first "reaction" channel!!
LOL!
I think we need to hear from Howard
Dave Reacts. 😄
Keep an eye out for Chris Elliott 13 before There's Something about Mary and 30 years before Schitt's Creek
A reaction show?! Dave was a few decades ahead of his time, and now it's on this very medium...
Only Merrill got her wish? Is that what I heard?
No. It was Gerry.
Dear Dave, is it too late to submit questions to Viewer Mail?
His name used to be Gurtner?
It was an inside joke that Dave then transferred to the show.
@@dongiller wow..The legend answered my question! Thanks Don, I appreciate your compilation works.👍❤
I think sometimes Hal corrected him.
@@raymondm.9954 Not sometimes but always.
@@dongiller iknowing Dave he would always beat any speck of humourism to a pulp before letting it go, LOL.
