My favorite food reviewer on YT. A nice blend of talking, food overview and Music that mixes very well, as other channels (UA) can learn from. Keep it honest and real and let's hit 50k and beyond!!!
And almost at 50k subs you deserve a lot more and you'll get there!! Glad your work's been consistent since the start even when you didn't have a lot of subscribers!

Hi James, Thanks for your review of Pecan Lodge. That brisket looks absolutely delicious! But I could really load up at this restaurant! As usual you have produced a superior video and I am addicted to your channel. Thanks for providing so much pleasure! Best Wishes, Peter
Hey! Welcome to my hometown James! I have been following you since you started the channel, and I'm looking forward to this review. Terry Black's is great, but I've always wanted to try Pecan Lodge. I'm glad I get to finally have the chance to eat at a restaurant you recommend. My wife and I are visiting New York over Christmas, and we will be eating at few of the establishments you covered over the last couple of years. Also thrilled to see the growth of this channel - you deserve it.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support! It means a lot to me! Yeah, I really enjoyed Pecan Lodge. Although, there were so many other bbq restaurants in Dallas that I would've loved to have tried. I hope you and your wife have a great time in New York!
@@Jamesnu Goldee's is King in Texas (voted #1). If you ever do come back, they are located southwest a bit between Ft. Worth and Dallas. Look them up online if you haven't already. Only open on Fri., Sat., and Sun, and like Franklin's in Austin, you have to get there early and wait in line or they will sell out. Absolutely the best and most consistent BBQ I have ever tried.
I like your fine dining videos a lot but these videos are just as nice. Good, honest cooking and good flavors. I also agree with you that BBQ can have some of the most inconsistency out of any dining out options.
I live in Dallas and I eat a Terry Black, Pecan Lodge and Hutchins BBQ at least once a month. Like you stated Terry Black is 3 blocks from Pecan Lodge (both on the same street). There meats are pretty close so what sides I want typically determines my decision. Terry Blacks has a great cream corn while Pecan Lodges collard greens are delish. I go to Terry Blacks more because they offer free parking while finding a parking spot at Pecan Lodge can be a real adventure during peak hours. Terry Black also serve the world famous black Margaritas. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.
think you caught Terry Blacks on a bad day. Maybe 1 out of 10 times I go there the brisket misses the mark, it happens. TBs is so much easier to get in and out of with that huge parking lot for locals. They open at 10:30am on Fri-Sunday too, which is super nice and never a line that early.
If you’re going to be in DFW for a while I would suggest trying Goldee’s BBQ west of Ft. Worth, I promise it’s the best bbq you will ever eat. Great video as always James
As always, a well researched & presented "out-of-town" review which I do greatly enjoy! Since joyfully watching so many of your channel offerings, it became apparent to me that - in your delivery - your voice cadence & intonation, that it is similar to the actor's voice (Patton Oswalt) speaking for "Remy" in the very endearing PIXAR film "Ratatouille". Please take no offense or be insulted by this comparison. Very interesting with the quality consistency from each restaurant we visit and you're right about bbq as there are so many factors involved with smoking. This can also translate with pizza ovens as well. Taking that stance, its amazing how a 3 michelin starred restaurant can deliver consistent quality
Both Pecan Lodge and Terry Black's look incredible! I hope I have the chance to try at least one if not both restaurants when I'm in Texas again. Great review!
Hi James ! Another fine video. Yes, you're right about the inconsistency of BBQ restaurants. Brisket can be a toss of the coin sometimes. Same with pork. I'm not fond of pulled pork. Even in nachos. Just another word for dry and stringy. Wow. Quantities are HUGE. You're a marathon runner, but how does the average Joe burn up that amount of meat ??? Yes, I like the look of Pecan Lodge. Very good value. Here in Sydney, I've just discovered 'sour' beer, passionfruit flavor. Is this popular in the States ? I love that sour, tangy hit. The only problem ? it's much more expensive than other kinds of beer. Thank you, James, and I hope you get to 50K-60K subscribers before the end of the year.
Thank you so much! I'm always pretty active, but I also think that I got lucky with my metabolism. Yeah, you definitely see sour beers here in a variety of flavors. I hope to reach those subscriber milestones. I definitely have some big videos coming up.
As someone who has lived in Dallas for five years and has been to both places, I would like to give some detail on the summary of these two restaurant comparisons. Price: at Terry, you ordered by the lb and multiple sides, while at Pecan, you ordered a meal with a maximum meat combo. Pecan will be cheaper because of a combo deal, but I can tell you both prices are very similar; you can compare meat per lb at both places, and the price would come out the same. Second, brisket quality: if your brisket is dry, please bring it to the counter and request a juicy one. Terry will give you a new cut if you are not happy with the fat content, and so will Pecan. The brisket has a fat and dry area; both restaurants have excellent customer service. They both would make it right if the cut of meat is not to your liking. I want to add that they are both across the street from each other so that you can try them both. I prefer to go to Terry simply because they offer parking and better seating. Considering they are both located downtown. The convenience factor plays a more significant role than deciding which restaurant has the best food, especially when they are so close, and you have to split hair to decide which has better food.
Thanks for sharing! I wouldn't have even thought of going back up to get a better slice of brisket. That's good to know! Yeah, others have mentioned the parking situation at Terry Black's. Since I was walking from my hotel downtown, it was never a factor that crossed my mind, but I can definitely see the advantage.
@@Jamesnu The brisket is not a uniform piece of beef like other cuts of suitable steak. This leads to part of the brisket being dryer than another area. When you order, if you don’t specify BBQ, the restaurant will give you whatever cut they have out. This had personally happened to me at a few BBQ restaurants around Dallas, where the cutter would take out a new brisket if I requested a moist piece. Call it “Southern hospitality.” Dallas, Austin, and Houston have some fantastic food scenes; I hope you get to try them all. I love your reviews, and I am looking to see many more.
