Coronation Celebrations at Gateshead 1953

An amateur film made by John W. McHugh and Robert Wilson for the County Borough of Gateshead of various coronation celebrations taking place around the borough including Saltwell Park. Activities shown include the presentation of a commemorative bench, Mayor's Sunday parade, coronation decorated streets, Open School dance displays in Saltwell Park, a performance of "Merrie England" by the Gateshead Operatic and Dramatic Society, the Youth Day procession of decorated floats from the likes of the YMCA, The Red Cross and Denwell Avenue Youth Club. The film end with a marching band and horticulture show taking place in Saltwell Park.
