I never thought of soaking those pieces of carburetor in oil? Good deal Boedy!

I like the fact that the original carburetor has a China stamp on it , nice trick with the oil

If that was a head that kept leaking in the same spot I would put 400grit on a piece of glass and wet sand both sides flat.
Hopefully you got it straightened out, but if it comes back that’s something to consider.

I use Vaseline on new gaskets being put into a rebuild carb..
