Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose small engine problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Excellent tutorial. Appreciate you explaining the fundamentals for us novices.
Thanks for the tip I would never of thought of looking there for a leak!
I didn't know about carb pressure testing! I fix small engines for decades and wondered why the carburetor leaked after a full rebuild! Now armed with new info, I can finally fix that carb leak instead of throwing it out to replacement!
Great tip donyboy. You always seem to find these head scratcher problems. I really like the way you go about things. Clean everything before taking things apart. I stress this in my shop as well. Look forward to your videos 👍
Difficult to locate that leak. I use a Mity Vac vacuum/pressure tester.
This trick will come in handy on carbs that you can't order anymore 👍🏼
Especially older STIHL brushcutters like a old fs80 have a plastic inlet tube thats always split
Excellent demonstration video. That helps alot. Thank you so much.
Nice to see other folks use JB Weld too. I have for years and yes the longer set stuff does seem stronger. Thanks for the vid.
Great tip Don! I usually buy the five minute JB weld, will start burning the long set one now, based on your advice. I fixed a gas tank on an old BMW I had, and it lasted six years, then sold the car. Tanks was expensive! Thanks Don!
Great tip! I have the same saw. I would recommend Permatex sleeve retainer before the epoxy. It is thinner and will wick into smaller openings. Nice job.
Love your work and thanks for all your help. Your intro is just right for length, graphics, and music. Wish you a great 2022.
Great tip. Thank you for sharing. I use the long set j b weld on may projects and repairs. ❤️🇨🇦
Brilliant.!! Thank you for sharing Don. 👍
A great video. Thanks Don
Thanks donyboy ! You always produce great useful content. Appreciate your videos.
Glad you like them!
Don Thanks for that tip it will help me if I come across that problem.
Great info. I have a husky 51 that won't stay running. It had a new carb a while ago, but now I'll check your fix. Thanks.
Very good information. Thanks.
Thank you ! I've learned so much from you. I work on my oew stuff other wise I have to drive 60- 80 miles round trip for a repair guy. Then it's give me a week or so.., I'll call you.
Great informative clip.
Thanks for that tip never thought of that
Yours is the best channel
I watch over again to try and make my know how second nature
As always, awsome info and thanks for sharing....
Great tip, Don!
I like you’re small videos their very informative and I work with two stroke cycle engines a lot at the moment
Great job there Donyboy as always.
Great one don thanks for the video will come in handy one day
THANK-YOU VERY MUCH DONYBOY !! STAY AWESOME MATE !!
Thank you!!!!
Awesome video, on my husky, ran great then no power drove me crazy, bottom plate was loose.
Nice video buddy! Looks like a great homeowner saw.
Yes, these are heavy. If I were going to be doing a lot of wood cutting I would buy a lighter saw. However I do occasional sawing so this model is ok for that:)
Show...Very good video...
Awesome video sir!
Excellent work!
Glad you like it!
Interesting discovery! Somebody cranked on that inlet a little hard in the past presumably. Wonder if loctite 603 would be the ideal adhesive, though the jb weld looks like it did a nice job. I've got a leaf blower that's got weird size fuel line holes that I can't match, haven't figured what else I can seal it with. However it's tygon-like fuel line into plastic, which is harder than metal to adhere to.
Good tip on the leak tester, I'll have to make a note of that model to get next time I need to buy from a small engine supplier: it's not on Amazon or eBay, surprisingly.
i must get one of the pressure testers, great vid yet again Donny
Well Done Dony.
Very useful stuff the JB Weld, i think it is a must have for any small engine repair business or DIYer.
absolutely!
Wow, great tool. I have to order one of these
I do small engine repair as well. I could write a book on the repairs I've done with JB weld. It's great stuff.
I agree with you on the long setting one. The 5 min. Stuff is good in a pinch, but if you have the time to wait definitely use the long set one.
Great videos!
PROBABLY YOU CAN HELP ME TOO.... I have got a Stihl 023 I bought it from someone and didn't realize that
around the the petrol tank cap must have been a crack as they trayed to fix with poxy (? ) it is coming loose from the petrol thank body ----around the cap---- Is there any way How to fix it ?
Thank you sir
This is common on most walbro and similar manufactured carbs. they run loose tolerances on the brass pipe hole smacking it in deeper has worked well enough for me.
Great video never thought of jb weld think I'll follow this method
Hi donyboy73. I fixed a cracked lawnmower engine fuel tank with chemical metal, and also worked fine. Thanks for you video and have a great weekened.
thanks for the tip!
Fantastic tester.
You are the the "man" Dony.....I just hope i remember this tip as i age..lol
Nice video. You can ghetto-fix it with some metal expoxy. That will get you by for a while. :)
Nice 👍 Job dony
This is absolutely excellent. You have solved a particularly frustrating issue with older Husqvarna chainsaw carburetors. Grateful at this end for your expertise.
Love your video series Danny been watching you for a long time preciate the information
thanks, have a great weekend!
445 is a good little saw. I ported the muffler on mine a bit and it has a good bit more bottom end torque than it did. Still wouldn't recommend running anything over an 18" bar on it but it does really good for it's size.
Thank you for making the video !
For years I have used JB Weld on lots of stuff that can get very hot and cause other glues to fail - It is always outstandingly good and reliable - Better than any other glue.
Great point!
You can spread the glue with a fine brush ! Great video !!!👍
Don, Your videos are great. I have a Poulan Pro that never idled properly since new. After watching your videos I replaced the carb and adjusted it like you instructed. Used the saw today and I ran the best it ever has. I could even sit it down and let it idle while I rolled logs and it didn’t stall like it always did before. Thank You. You are the Man!!!!
Great to hear!
@@donyboy73 Friend, what is the best way to use the saw after replacing the 372 xp oe piston?
@@Sensei948 I would run first few tanks with a little extra oil in the gas
@@donyboy73 Friend, how best to position the L nozzle .....?
@@donyboy73 can i set 13200 rpm for 372xp oem after one blown tank? saw after replacing the piston ...
I used the steelstik on my generator gas tank and is holding up pretty well 2 years later
good to know!
Good job
I JB'd rusted out axel splines on a Honda Fourtrax 250 to rusted out splines hubs. They held for 5 years, could do wheelies NP ; until someone stole it.
To remove a hub to make a repair I had to aggressively heat it with an acetylene torch and hammer on it.
Good luck to whoever's has it now.
wow that's amazing!
Acetone with a qtip works well too fir cleaning.
Excelente 🇲🇽👍
Dobra robota Dony, jak długo będzie trzymać ten klej .👍💪
That's a great tip and thanks . J B weid makes good products I have patched gas tanks holes in engine blooks.
Great video you can get epoxy putty called milliput other brands are available. Its easy to control and you can shape it with water to give a cleaner finish. Same principle as JB weld as performed by the expert Doctor. Thanks for all the help over the years! Keep the videos coming...
Cool, thanks
I'm dealing with the same problem with the same saw! Idles but soon as you hit the throttle it boggs down really bad. Guess I need to get a pressure tester now. I'm never buying a husqvarna again.! My STIHL saws go and go with no problems!
Hey Don,
great video! 👍 Thanks!
I also use that JB weld for Repairs. It works great, is super strong and you can work on it, like sanding, drilling and so on...
Greetings from germany, Stefan
greetings from Canada!
Thanks I’ll check this right away
Ready to do work!
Tooth pick makes nice clean joints on small areas and no chance of air pockets in the epoxy
Boy that explained something you wouldn’t expect it to leak there thanks
Excellent as always, I really appreciate all the detail and products. Please wrap your thumb under the handle when using the chainsaw! Safety first. Thanks again Dony.
Noted!
Ole Canadian AY!
Thanks Don
have a good weekend Paul!
@@donyboy73 Have a good weekend yourself All the best
I do the same thing but I use my Might Vac at 5#. I just hook it up and pump it up to 5# and leave it on the work bench for 30 minutes. After that, it better still read 5# or I start out finding why. I also check the carb on vacuum, too. To check for leaks, I spray the carb down with soapy water from my bottle of soapy water I keep in the shop
How do I check the cracked seal leaking air as you suggested? Great videos!
What is the Walbro part number for that husqvarna 445 carb? And, if it’s not too much to ask; what would the part number on that rebuild kit be? Love your videos bud!
not sure, go to partstree.com
I think RTV gasket maker would be a better choice where vibration could be an issue........
Great but what if the carb is dumping too much fuel into the cylinder causing flooding ? (Husky 455 Rancher Autotune)
I have used shellac to seal small leaks over the years, is not affected by petrol.
Currently troubleshooting an oddly running Stihl 028 WB that seemed to be leaking at the line. I have a new line, but will pressure test the carb also now. Thanks Dony!
check the impulse line as well!
@@donyboy73 for a tear? I thought about that, but there was a drop of fuel hanging off the line.
@@12scars yes for cracks
It happens and I have used JB weld in the past.
J b weld can fix just about anything! Same with duct tape. I keep both on hand those two things can get you out of a jam.
Never knew to pressure test it. Mine is loosing prime. Learn something everyday.
Is one of symptoms of an air leak that a chainsaw will start and idle, but will die as soon as the trigger is pulled (compression is 160 psi and carb kit installed)? I have this problem on my Stihl 026.
Hi Don, I enjoy your videos so much! I was wondering if the needle valve in a two-stroke carburetor is not adjusted properly could that lead to flooding the chainsaw super easily. Thanks in advance.
yes absolutely, make sure the metering lever is always adjusted properly
Hi Donyboy!
This was a great learning,.. Will trace down my old HQ55, and see if this is the problem.. Also have a 2nd Q. : all blank, but I have a 2015-ish. Generic Chinese 46cc.2kw saw.. - Looks like a stihl chassis.. Can you tell me what settings should I try to get it running.. Saw is almost unused, but can't get it to start..
Nice to know this one I have several carbs like this Ecco and husqvarna. We do test like this on valves at work soap and water. Banjo liquid valves for John deer and all farm tractor. Who would have guessed?
Thanks for sharing
I'm not sure
if u caN help but brand new fuel filter, lines, primer bulb, and crab... Rand for a few cuts and now it won't pull fuel into the carb so confused...... husqvarna 240e any help is great
Cool
That's a super tip. Seeing how that's a OEM Zama with what is essentially a quality control issue, does this change your opinion somewhat concerning OEM vs. aftermarket?
not really, this could just be a problem on this specific carb
Buy a handful of 10ml plastic syringes (1mm tip opening/no needle) from the drug store, ideal for precisely applying JB Weld, RTV, Motoseal etc. without any mess.
Might need to sharpen that chain, Otherwise great information thank you so much
Great tip Don, just curious how old the saw is? Husky offers up to 5 years consumer warranty if you use their premixed fuel. Keep the tips coming I used to use a homemade pressure tester made from a blood pressure tester bulb then upgraded to a Mityvac but that Walbro tester is a nice compact size.
yes it was older than 5 years
I hate working on 2 stroke carbs. I can never get it right but I keep plugging away.
Thanks for your video my husqvarna not 2 years old get very little work in your video you failed to mention the little plug on the right side of the return line of the primer. I put the green plug back but it keeps falling out do you think it be OK to fill that hole with glue or those the plug allow the fuel tank to breath thanks from Australia
These carburetors aren’t like the ones that we pulled that inlet fitting off of to expose a hidden screen are they? Obviously what you did worked but I was wondering if reseating the inlet fitting using JB Weld would serve better?
Hey is there some walbro carburetor what fits in husqvarna 353?
Dony, I've been using JB Weld products for years and like the "slow cure" the best. The one thing to be careful of is the mixed paste tends to flow a bit if too much is used.
Nice fix there young fella!
Thanks buddy!
If you look for the "water weld" it is fuel and potable water safe. As most of the other JB welds are not fuel safe. Found out the hard way.
@@jbigbike their website reckons it's safe to use with fuel.
@@tomalophicon from personal experience it is not. After 2 months of exposure it turned to a rubber like material and dissolved quickly after that. The water weld was still holding After 4 years with no change.
@@jbigbike i'l keep that in mind
One day my weed whacker started leaking, it was just lying in my truck, it always ran well, and it isn't that old. I tried to order a carb kit thinking a diaphram was broken, but the cost was ridiculous. The carb is a bit unusual so none of the China replacement are the same. I think I might do a pressure test too, it could be just started the same type of leak.
I'm not sure you will do this, but here goes-Can you show or tell me how to replace fuel lines on Jonsered model CS2245- thanksin advance,Bill
Nice👍🍺👍
Thanks Dony. I have to get one of those pressure testers. Do you think the problem was a poor casting? In addition, I’ve used JB-Weld to repair a air tank leak and it’s been holding 100+ psi for several years.
could be yes but nowadays anything is possible
Thanks , I had the same problem and went ahead and bought a new carby , same shit happened. It now sits on a shelf awaiting more ... goodness knows what! I have three in this un happy condition
Do you think you would have used motorseal to fix this problem ?
