Michael- Thanks for the review. As you know there's nothing out there on this instrument. I'm hoping you can do another video with some slow, acoustic celtic or bluegrass type picking on the high E and B strings so I can see how that compares to a regular mandolin sound. Thanks again.
Nice review. I picked up a lefty myself. Michael, have you found a source for the strings though? Ball end mandolin strings aren't easy to find and the gauges on this instrument are much lighter than what I've found so far (According to Goldtone's site, they are: EADGBE - .009, .009, .013, .013, .023, .023, .028, .011, .037, .018, .044, .027). D'Addario makes a ball end set, but they start at .011 for the high E.
I still have the original strings on it. I'm glad you made me aware of this. I might try EJ41, D'Addario's lightest gauge 12-string acoustic guitar set. .009 -.045.
Any suggestions for someone thinking the opposite way... I'm learning mandolin and would like a 12 string mandolin tuned (from low to high) C GG DDD AAA EEE, with the duplicate/triplicate strings close together as on the mandolin, but with only 2 G strings, the 12th and lowest string being the C a fifth below the G- rather a cross between a cittern and...? Unsure whether fret placement/ or strength on instrument would work this way?
This instrument plus a six string cello would make a killer combo for a folk/jazz/classical crossover duet.
Thanks Michael. I'm looking to buy one and, like you said, there's nothing out there. Appreciate the info.
Hi, the tail piece of the instrument is jammed on my 12 string manditar, any ideas how do I release it for changing the strings?
I haven't had that problem. I hope you found a way.

It sounds like a Mandolin already cause it's tuned an Octave higher

Use 2 sets of Octave4Plus Fifths tuning strings
It might not work and besides Guitar is easier to play
If you play Guitar the Manditar will give you that sound you're looking for.
What was the opening song
It was a piece I wrote inspired by Led Zeppelin and Heart.
